Pairs Skating: Wolfgang Tillmans and Boris Mikhailov in Yermilov Center, Kharkiv

In this episode of the Ukrainian Art Dispatch, we bring you to Kharkiv, Eastern Ukraine. Here, the Yermilov Center is hosting a major exhibition that presents a profound conversation between two visionary artists of our time. Emerging from vastly different sociopolitical backgrounds and cultural environments, Boris Mikhailov and Wolfgang Tillmans share a deep kinship: a commitment to photography as a means to explore the intersection of the personal and the political, and to capture the essence of a place and a moment in time. "Pairs Skating: Wolfgang Tillmans and Boris Mikhailov" is curated by Tatiana Kochubinska (art historian and independent curator) & Maria Isserlis (senior museum curator, art historian, and cultural manager). We sat down with Tatiana and Maria to discuss their project and the challenges their team had faced while putting together the exhibition in a city close to the frontline. The podcast is hosted by Iya Stepanyuk, an art journalist and editor of [esthète] Gazette, an independent art newspaper based in Lviv, Ukraine, and Ihor, who operates Nomadische Boekenplank, an art media project focused on Ukrainian art and culture based in Amsterdam.More about the exhibition
