Care Is Not Optional
We tell the real story of what five months of care instability does to a disabled life when direct payments are put on hold and everything becomes “under review”. We name the hidden cost of being misrepresented, forced to translate reality into admin language, and still having to fight for dignity, safety, and stable support while we are still living inside the fallout. • why care is not an optional extra but the structure that makes life possible • what direct payments are and why delays create immediate risk • the difference between support on paper and support in practice • how instability affects sleep, stress, epilepsy, safety, and capacity • how summaries and “professional” narratives flatten truth and shape decisions • why disabled expertise should carry authority over outside interpretation • the invisible labour of documenting, correcting, escalating, and staying credible • myths about routines, “reasonable” options, gratitude, and being labelled difficult • dignity as a practical need threaded through communication, continuity, and trust Share it with someone who needs to hear what disability, care, and dignity can actually look like behind closed doors. Share it with someone who still thinks care is just a service. Share it with someone who needs to understand that instability lands somewhere. Share it with someone who needs to hear disabled truth without the smoothing over.
