[EP18] "The Sport of Paintball & Men's Mental Health"

In Episode 18, I sit down with Tom "The Ageless Assassin" Taylor. A loving husband. father, leader and child at heart. We discuss the sport of paintball. A sport I found as a young teenage that really saved me from bad choices and bad crowds. You will be surprised how many people echo this sentiment. This sport is like no other and if you are someone who is looking to fit in somewhere when you feel you just don't fit in anywhere else, this sport is for you. Its recently been called the safest form of adrenaline and I couldn't agree more.Tom is also a big advocate for men's mental health and brotherhood. The way he steps out of his own comfort zone to set the tone for anyone on the fence of reaching out and perhaps on the brink but have gone dark. Tom is a legit amazing person and friend. This one is powerful and worth the listen!Hope you enjoy this one.Website:https://unmodernpodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/unmodern.podcast/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/unmodernpodcastGuest Contact InformationTom TaylorInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/crusaderspb/

[EP17] "Courageous Immigration Story & A Message to Canadians"

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 17 of the Unmodern Podcast. In this episode, I sit down with Daru Pretorius. A South African immigrant and business & logistics specialist who immigrated to Canada with his family during the Scamdemic, so you can imagine how that experience was for Daru. With the political climate swirling around Canada these days and the divisiveness we are witnessing amongst ourselves and with our neighbors to the south, Daru sheds an amazing light on perspectives that Canadians should adopt in order to not become consumed with emotions and ignorance around things you really cannot control. Comparing the real world experience between Cape Town, South Africa to Rural Alberta, Canada. You will get a small taste of how our freedoms and privilege's in Canada are something we CANNOT take for granted and must appreciate and cherish on a daily basis. We also dive into Daru's expertise and business. Helping business owners and professionals identify inefficiencies within themselves and their business. If you own a business, and could have someone show you how to refocus and grow your business while ONLY being paid a percentage of the savings or growth, does that sound like a good deal to you?Golden Thread Consulting can help you achieve growth and efficiency in how you do business! As mentioned in this podcast and quoted from the PDB Podcast. [EP16] “Lets Talk Politics & Do You Actually Have Rights?

In Episode 16 of the Unmodern Podcast, Robin Menaar and I have such a wholesome conversation that every "average" man or even person can relate to.Robin and I talk about the concept of retirement and how "the dream" isn't what you think it is. We share our personal opinions of the rat race and how it can affect people into focusing on all the wrong things in life.Lastly, we get political. Now I know that's an eye rolling conversation to most. But given the current political climate, I feel this podcast is just the right spice to add to mix. Why, you might ask? Well, politics affects us more than you know. The current EA strike happening in Edmonton and throughout Alberta. How we hold our elected officials accountable or lack thereof, and how you've been totally convinced that not getting involved and shying away from political conversation is in your best interest. Well, I hate to break it to you, but getting involved to a degree is the responsibility of a civil society. All those rights and freedoms you enjoy never came from men and women who chose not to get involved. Change is messy. Progress is painful. The first step is education and awareness. I hope this episode brings you that! Thanks for listening! [EP15] "Turn Your Passion into a Business & Experience vs. Credentials"

In Episode 15, I have a great conversation with Mike Prince, our 2nd ever repeat guest on the show and man have things changed since our first episode (EP05). Mike has created an amazing business, The Conscious Creator, and through this Mike brings his gifts of breathwork, leadership and wisdom. We discuss balancing a passionate side business while also providing for yourself and your family. Likely a struggle many men can relate to. "How does one turn their passion into a business", we discuss this exact topic as both Mike and I are in the struggle right now of wanting & trying to do just that.Mike discusses his exclusive coaching program, The Remarkable Man. A program where in the first 30 days he walks you through a "detox". No sugar, no porn, no caffeine, no blue light & no alcohol, just to name a few things. This may sound polarizing and intimidating to most people. But just imagine where your life would be if you were able to be held accountable for all the vices and negative habits impacting your life. This is just the tip of the iceberg with his coaching program.I also get the chance to talk about what I've dubbed "Initial Investment". We discuss how whenever you want to make a change in your life, whether it be with money, fitness, business, habits, relational, etc. The initial investment of time, effort and money required is substantial. So much so that when we don't see a return as soon as possible (which is what society tells us we need to receive) we tend to quit before any results or true measure of progress can be observed. But if you can hang on for the long haul, trust in yourself and make small adjustments along the way, your life will change for the better. This was a fun episode and I hope you enjoy listening.ThanksWebsite:https://unmodernpodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/unmodern.podcast/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/unmodernpodcastGuest Contact InformationMike PrinceWebsite:https://consciouscreator.world/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/theconsciouscreatorcoach/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/theconsciouscreatorcoach/

[EP14] "Personal Brands, Pros & Cons of A.I. & Life as an Autism Father"

In Episode 14 I have a conversation with Mark de Grasse. I first reached out to Mark to discuss A.I. which is a space he works in professionally. We quickly found out we had something in common with having a child with autism. I was blessed to have the opportunity to guest on Mark's podcast, Dads in Autismland (linked below).Mark has spent 20+ years building brands & businesses and in this episode we talk about personal branding and why its so important by building a personal brand for yourself and your children. In 2025 and beyond, protecting your personal image and brand can really set you up for success. Transition into entrepreneurship, changing careers, ensuring an authentic self is on display but also something I never even considered until talking to Mark was cyber security. In the age of A.I. your lack of online presence can potentially be highjacked and ensuring everyone is aware of who are you genuinely, can curb any potential security threat in the future. Mark gives some step by step beginner guidance into how to get started. We also discuss A.I. Its not secret my distaste for A.I. but Mark brings a refreshing perspective, even though he is in that world professionally, he explains the evolution of A.I. and how it can be used in your day to day to clean up some of the mundane tasks, goals or ideas you may have but these some things might be preventing you from getting started. Again, Mark brings some beginner steps and "how to" get started tips and tricks. Lastly, we touch on being fathers of children with autism. This is very personal to me and I appreciated Marks journey and perspective so much. This episode is full of actionable steps that will help you immensely. I hope you enjoy this episode, its a banger!Website:https://unmodernpodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/unmodern.podcast/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/unmodernpodcastResources Mentioned in this Podcast EpisodeDads in Autismland Youtube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@DadsinAutismlandChatGPT AI:https://chatgpt.com/Guest Contact InformationMark de GrasseWebsite:https://markdegrasse.com/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/markdegrasse/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/mark.degrasseLinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/markdegrasse/

[EP12] "A Problem Cannot be Solved by the Same Mind That Created It"

In Episode 12, I have a great chat with Cam MacDougall. Cam is a High-Performance Coach, Speaker, and Founder of Inbodied, and the Inbodied Performance Methodology. Cam’s “Five Bodies” method—physical, mental, energetic, emotional, and spiritual—empowers his clients to create lives of impact, purpose, and balance. Created from his own journey of grit, growth, and a PhD in f*@king it all up. Cam’s approach is raw, real, and grounded in lived experience, guiding clients toward an Inbodied Life with a mix of reverence, playfulness, and unapologetic action.I first met Cam on a men's retreat in Costa Rica where Cam facilitated a breathwork session. Cam's command and control of the room was apparent from the beginning and the experience has had a lasting impression on me. I would follow up with Cam a year later and participate in the "Inbodied Warrior Games" where Cam came swinging out of the gate with a 6 week physical and mental group challenge. To say I received an ass kicking would be an under statement. In discussing the "5 bodies", Cam frames some of todays lingering issues with Men using a "Warrior Architype" to explain the 5 bodies, that can relate to almost every man I know.In this episode, Cam explains very simply, that you MUST find your "WHY". Whatever that is. It is your guiding light to getting to where you want to be. And Fear is something that needs to be accepted as a reality to overcome your present situation to get to your desired future. We end the discussion talking about Cam's amazing event he has coming up in Victoria, B.C. on Jan. 25th called "We Own The Night". <-- Linked Below. If you are looking for no bullshit, real guidance from someone with lived experience, I encourage you to take a listen and give Cam a follow. [EP11] "The Lonely Chapter, Divorce (not ours) & Grief"

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 11 of the Unmodern Podcast.I am very excited about this episode. Our first repeat guest is my lovely wife Courtney Samson. We get into some deep discussion topics. As mentioned before and for those who know my wife and I, we don't always agree on real life discussion topics and it is on full display in this episode. We dig deep into our maturity within our marriage; the borderline epidemic of divorce within society; our mindset around growing as husband & wife, parents and friends; the modern struggles of friendship and our definition of what true friendship looks like; and positive vs. negative mindsets through your environment and societal conditioning. We also provide some helpful resources and suggestions for "pulling" yourself up from a dark place and strategies that helped us navigate significant and unexpected life events like an Autism diagnosis with our first daughter & indirect communication almost causing the end of our marriage. This is a juicy episode and I hope you enjoy it!Thanks for listeningWebsite:https://unmodernpodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/unmodern.podcast/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/unmodernpodcastResources Mentioned in this Podcast EpisodeThe Lonely Chapter:https://www.instagram.com/p/C0w8RGkCjmk/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==Be, Do, Have:https://www.facebook.com/reel/1073571634397799Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP):https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/ap-4-associated-hereditary-spastic-paraplegia/Guest Contact InformationCourtney SamsonInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/courtneysamson89/

[EP10] "Self Control is More Important than Self-Esteem & Your Life Business Plan"

In Episode 10, I sit down with a former co-worker and trusted friend, Trevor Ross. Trevor is a great example of a quietly successful person. Someone who has his "house" truly in order from top to bottom. In his modest nature, he would alter that statement but it is true none the less. In this episode we dive into some basic hacks or tactics one can use to fast track their life. Simple strategies both of us have had success with applying to our lives. We talk about Jesus and his impact on both of us. We discuss the concept of having high self control vs. high self-esteem (doing what's right vs. what feels good), this can be a metaphor for really anything in your life. We chat about having the courage to humble yourself to take charge in your life. And one of my favorite topics, we chat about applying a "business plan" template to your life, with money, roles, goals & resources. This jam session type episode and a bit different than past episodes. Passion and friendship drove this podcast episode rather than structure and niche.I hope you enjoy this one. [EP08] "How To Improve Your Finances and Fitness & Mental Toughness"

In Episode 08, I have an amazing chat with Jarek Chin. Jarek is a Senior Partner at World Financial Group, so his knowledge and expertise around money are a great resource and you will certainly find value in this episode around money. Further to that, Jarek is an avid fitness, health and wellness advocate. Aside from looking the part, he lives the part! The gym, eating well, sports, his knowledge of experience through trail and error of what worked for him and what hasn't, its incredible! Jarek uses some very simple analogies to help the messaging stick and bring it full circle which truly unlock that final hurdle you've been struggling with or give you that "lightbulb" moment you've needed for far to long.Jarek shares his own "why" which almost everyone can relate with and by using the "slight edge method", focusing on small habit changes & cultivating an environment that helps you grow into who you want to become. Jarek experienced a divorce in 2019 and we dive into the dating world since then and currently. Things get funny but also real as we discuss the battering ram that is divorce for men in todays society. Topics like accountabilities, communication & perspective using my own marriage as an example, which I am truly blessed for.Lastly, we discuss an absolute amazing charity Jarek founded 11 years ago. The WFG Hockey Classic. A basic hockey game of the Calgary & Edmonton WFG offices, followed by dinner, entertainment, etc.To date, Jarek has raised over $630,000 dollars for charities & $506,000 of that for the Stollery Children's hospital. The event this year is April 6th @ the J.W Marriott in Edmonton, Alberta. Please visit their Instagram page linked below & grab your ticket for an amazing night out, or consider donating an auction item. All this while raising 2 boys, being a single dad, ensuring he remains focused on his fitness & health while never losing sight of his vision and ensuring he remains "hungry" to be the man his sons need. [EP07] "A Life with ADHD & One Helluva Story"

Taylor is a chef based out of Kelowna, B.C. and we dive deep into his past. His struggles with addiction & trauma. Taylor pours his heart into the microphone and gives you an incredible looking into his life and his life story.Unlike previous episodes, this one is all about Taylor. I felt it important to let his story flow and truly be told in almost and audiobook style. If you've ever struggled, with anything really, but especially substance abuse. Or perhaps emotional struggles like depression, or have been a high energy person and cannot explain your actions or reactions, this podcast may help you bridge that gap and understanding life's high points and low points. Knowing that someone could experience higher highs and lower low and come out being one of the most amazing people you've met or even heard can give hope that its not the end of the world. That you do have a shot and that there are people willing to talk about it.I truly believe anyone will gain value from this episode and enjoy this story.
