Nicola Stories
In this Unsilenced Project episode, Nicola, a lesbian Christian in her early 60s living in Blackpool, shares her lifelong journey of faith and identity. The only Christian in her non-Christian family, Nicola was baptised at 15 - the same year she first reached out for support as a gay teenager. After years of trying to be straight to please the church, she realised “Jesus loved me as I was”. Nicola describes the painful search for a truly accepting church once trans ideology entered the religious spaces she once called home. She details how an independent church that pioneered gay marriage in 2014 quickly shifted focus after 2016, promoting transition, fostering dependency, locking doors for “safety,” and silencing any questioning of trans ideology. Gay and lesbian members, including Nicola, eventually left as the culture changed from empowerment to victimhood. With honesty and care, she recounts the lack of benefit she observed for those encouraged to transition - “I couldn’t see any benefit… it’s disabling people” - and shares the story of a young woman who detransitioned after their conversation. Nicola now finds hope in the new LGB Christians network she helped launch and dreams of dedicated spaces where lesbian Christians can be supported without trans ideology. A powerful testimony of resilience, protective love, and the importance of separate pastoral care for gay and lesbian believers. Michael Kerr Stories
In this honest and courageous episode of the Unsilenced Project, Michael Kerr from Glasgow shares his full story. Growing up in a loving home with two devoted parents and four siblings, Michael came out as gay at 15. At 18, he was sexually assaulted in a nightclub toilet. The trauma sent him spiralling into alcohol, drugs, and unsafe situations. Drawn into an LGBTQ+ circle where everyone carried their own trauma, friends repeatedly told him he was “really feminine” and asked if he had ever thought he was a woman. At 25, his GP referred him to Sandyford Gender Clinic with no questions asked. After two years of social transition, Michael began cross-sex hormones in November 2020. Initial euphoria quickly faded into growing discomfort and doubt. The clinic dismissed his concerns as normal “gender dysphoria.” Only after his relationship ended and a private conversation with detransitioner Richie Herron did everything change. Richie’s words hit hard: “It’s easier to live with doubts than it is to live with regret.” Michael stopped estrogen on 22 May last year, leaned on his family and dedicated GPs, and began trauma therapy. He has since founded Detransition Pathway UK to give others the practical steps and community he never had. Michael’s story is a powerful testament to the importance of addressing root trauma instead of rushing into medical transition. Caroline McAllister Stories
In this unflinching episode of The Unsilenced Project, Caroline McAllister - former SNP councillor, deputy leader, SNP Women’s Pledge Convener and elected SNP Women’s Convener - speaks candidly about her journey from a lifetime of supporting vulnerable women and survivors of male violence to becoming a target within her own party. Drawing on decades in social work and advocacy, Caroline explains why the rush to self-ID and the Gender Recognition Reform (GRR) bill filled her with alarm: “I just felt I couldn’t stay quiet about this because I knew that for a lot of women to engage in public life… they needed that safe space, that single-sex space.” Her detailed email to SNP leadership warning of the impact on abuse survivors was met with silence. Cognitive dissonance, she says, was “such a powerful emotion.” She recounts the secret launch of the SNP Women’s Pledge, the defiant yellow banner at the George Square independence rally, repeated attempts to sack her as councillor, a rigged vetting process that blocked her MSP candidacy, and the hostile NEC environment where questioning gender ideology made members fair game for attack. Caroline’s story is one of courage, protective instinct and refusal to be silenced. Essential listening ahead of the election. Gillian Philip Stories
Accompanied by a loudly purring cat, Gillian Philip, a Scottish author of over 40 books, talks about how in 2020, she was dropped by her publishers HarperCollins and WorkingPartners after posting “IStandwithJKRowling” on Twitter in support of women’s sex-based rights. The decision followed a backlash from gender identity activists, abusive threats, and coordinated pressure campaigns labelling her views as transphobic. Despite her long-standing public positions, the companies terminated her contract without discussion, and her agent also withdrew support shortly after her husband’s death. Gillian bought a legal claim in an Employment Tribunal against both HarperCollins and WorkingPartners after she lost her career to the gender zealots and now works as a courier and HGV driver.
