Veraison to Harvest Season 3 Week 8
We've made it to week 8 of the 2025 grape and wine harvest in New York State. A lot of the grapes have been picked, but the fruit that's still hanging is looking great. This week we hear from Amanda Gardner, Alice Wise's grape-growing teammate at Suffolk County Cooperative Extension. Amanda gives us her impressions of their research block, the Long Island season and, yes, spotted lanternflies. Hans Walter-Peterson and Amanda then discuss what to do when there are too many to squish.

Veraison to Harvest Season 3 Week 5
Into each season a little rain must fall, but it was a very little and it's over now. The grape and wine harvest season continues in New York, and the pace seems to be a little less frantic than some years. We talk about the pluses and minuses of an extended vs compressed harvest. No 2025 V to H episode is complete without a spotted lanternfly sighting, and this week some fruit that had been visited by SLF made its way to a research winery. Tune in to hear how that went.

Veraison to Harvest Season 3 Week 4
The grapes look and smell great as the harvest in New York continues. Spotted lanternflies are never too far from our thoughts, and possibly even nightmares, but we're carrying on, even if yellow jackets join the party. It's still dry, which is generally good but getting extreme. Hear what's come in and what's still out there on Week 4 of the V to H podcast.

Join Hans Walter-Peterson, Jennifer Phillips-Russo and Alice Wise as we talk about rain (or lack thereof) and hurrying up and waiting for the bulk of the New York harvest.

Veraison to Harvest 2023 Week 7
A vibe shift, or more precisely a barometric pressure shift, has brought a change to the 2023 harvest season. The optimism brought by last week's bonus summer weather has been replaced by realism and maybe a touch of pessimism. Alice Wise, Jeremy Schuster, Jennifer Phillips-Russo and Hans Walter-Peterson join to talk about where we are, where we're headed, and who is accepting the invitation to find out what the 2023 season still has up its sleeve.

(Hint: it's not werewolves or candy.)

Veraison to Harvest 2023 Week 4
Harvest season continues in New York State. Our regional team notes that while we are generally behind last year's growing degree day totals, that doesn't make 2023 too different from the long term average. The weekend forecast may play a role in picking decisions, especially in eastern parts of the state. As some of the early to mid-season varieties are picked, the later grapes probably need to hang for a while.
