    Featuring David Morgan

David Morgan is a finance and insurance specialist from Chicago, IL and CEO of The Family Insurance. The son of a teacher and an accountant, David knew he wanted to create a business that allowed him to teach his clients but at the time had no idea what that looked like. Attending both the University of Indianapolis and Northern Illinois University to study finance and marketing, then joining the Army in 2013, he was always looking for his purpose. After leaving the Army he took a job as an insurance agent with Banker’s Life instead of returning to college for the 2017 fall semester for what he believed would just be work experience. He soon learned how he could use his newfound knowledge to help protect hundreds of families, including his own, and didn’t need a college degree to do it. He attempted to educate everyone he knew about the importance of life insurance for them and their family. He was able to help several members of his family as well as many families in Chicago at the time. Once David felt he learned everything he could about the basics of life insurance with Banker’s, he partnered with Aflac where he learned about the insurance needs for businesses and their owners.Being one of the top producers in his office, David quickly learned that this career path had great potential and he could really help his clients. However, even with all his success he kept running into a common issue in the industry that he kept seeing as a recurring theme. Many of the people he looked up to and other agents he worked with were not people of integrity and would lie or even steal just to get their commission. He eventually realized that this industry, as lucrative as it was, caused some of his peers to operate in a dishonest manner.Struggling with the toxic work environment, not being able to trust his peers and mentors, while also dealing with personal issues at home, David decided to step away from the business in 2019.While away David continued his education on different life insurance strategies as well as other aspects of financial literacy. In 2020, he received a call that one of his first clients passed away due to Covid; his sister Tineshia, who had down syndrome and who was only 32 years old when she passed. This was a tragedy for his entire family, but they were able to take comfort in the fact that David had gotten her approved for a $30,000 policy just two years before she passed. This experience made him realize that no matter how toxic his career could be with the dishonesty of other agents, he would not allow that to deter him from what he felt called to do. From then on, he has made it his purpose to make sure every person he encounters understands the value of life insurance and true financial literacy.Today, David has a weekly show on LinkedIn called “Black Money” and is invited to speak at different events where he teaches his audience financial literacy secrets that the 1% use to create wealth. From simple budgeting and life insurance to retirement planning and unique financial strategies, David has made it a personal goal to help all his clients reach their financial goals no matter their current financial status. He is currently creating a YouTube channel called “De’Lion’s Den” where he will release free content that anyone can use to better their personal and financial life. You can follow David on all social media platforms and can reach out to him directly through his website, www.thefamilyinsurance.com. Featuring Johnnie Coles

Hartford, CT is known for many things. Their strength in community, their leadership representation, and the array of connections that are made within this cultural city. However, Hartford is also to thank for giving the world the gift of Johnnie Coles. Born and raised in the insurance capital of the world, Johnnie is proof of what hard work and dedication resemble. Growing up poor in the city of Hartford, Johnnie was presented with many opportunities to succeed. One of those opportunities included a college preparatory school education. Unfortunately, drug abuse led him down an unexpected path. And before he knew it, the opportunities afforded to him came to a screeching halt by the hands of a 9-year prison sentence. Completely throwing a monkey wrench in what could have been, Johnnie was forced to deal with strenuous consequences. He made many attempts to get free and clean but was unfortunately unsuccessful at that time. Facing the 9-year sentence was deemed as a curse, but ironically turned out to be one of the biggest blessings of his life. The sentencing fueled him to become the greatest version of himself possible. Johnnie’s favorite quote, by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is, “If you can’t fly then run. If you can’t run then walk. If you can’t walk then crawl. Whatever you do, you have to keep it moving forward.” That is exactly what Johnnie did – he always kept it moving forward. With this mindset, he served 5 years of a 9-year prison sentence, shifting his life for the better and forever. After those 5 years, Johnnie made parole and was released to a halfway house. When most hear the term halfway house, they don’t fully understand it. Some look at it as a place of craze and doom, while others view it as an open door to better days. For Johnnie, it was definitely an open door to much better days. While residing there, he managed to get 2 jobs, and a bicycle and saved $10,000 in 9 months. This was the second chance that he needed and he took full advantage of it.Decades later, Johnnie Coles has successfully changed his life and his lifestyle. He has been clean for over 20 years, has 2 thriving businesses, and is an author, motivational speaker, and comedian. Throughout his travels and business moves, he gladly mentors men of all ages and provides motivation to the local rehab facilities. He also has been featured in school and community events, providing empowerment and proof of what a made-up mind looks like. This journey prompted him to write his first book, “Failure Is Not An Option.” Within it, he gives 8 powerful keys that set readers up for success. Accrediting his mother, sister, and grandmother as being great sources of inspiration, Johnnie continues to be dedicated to his journey. His work ethic and ability to see the necessary positives in everything allow him to remain consistent in his pursuit of the greater. He may not have the accolades, degrees, and awards that some have; however, he does have an attribute that is undeniable. Passion. He has committed his life to helping others find their purpose, against all odds and against all obstacles. In Johnnie’s world, roadblocks don’t have permission to stop him or anyone connected to him.Daily, this husband and father declares, “Today I win at everything I put my mind to and my crusade is to help others do the same.” This is the essence of who Johnnie is and how he continues to lead in this world.
