From scarily close encounters with hippos, to almost taking out a power-line, join Charlie and her partner Alexis on a voyage to the freshwater realms of Gambia for an unforgettable adventure.

Leaving behind the clear waters off Cape Verde, Charlie and her partner Alexis embark on a magical but challenging four day passage to the wild waters West Africa.

Seeing sharks in the wild often means donning a wetsuit and goggles. But that's not the case in Cape Verde. Shark Bay is a unique spot offering the chance to wade in and get up close with these animals. But it's fast becoming one of the top tourist attractions, and there's worry what that could mean. Joining Project Biodiversity, Charlie spends an afternoon tagging juveniles in the bay, and learning about the threats this species faces.

Venturing to the remote corner of Sal Island, Charlie joins Project Biodiversity in the field to go in search of a little known seabird species, the red-billed tropic bird, and collect data on nesting adults and their chicks.

I have arrived in Cape Verde and head down to Project Biodiversity’s sea turtle hatchery for a memorable evening assisting the team with baby hatchlings and to learn how they are working to save the locally endangered loggerhead turtle. Follow the adventure on Instagram: @voyagetothewild
