We Should Be Recording This

We (Ryan & Amber) run a video production business and sometimes have conversations where one of us says: "we should be recording this." Join us, usually mid-conversation, while we explore things like late diagnosed neurodivergence, consciousness, physics, philosophy, art and more. More than anything, we thought what this world needs is another podcast. So obvi, here we are. You're welcome.

    Epidemic? Or Just Consequences?

"...and now men are mad that they have to sleep in the bed they made because they're alone in it.""Sex has become a commodity you have to use another person's body to get."This time, we got impassioned about the state of our society as it pertains to the capitalistic, patriarchal standards that have been set, and how they affect both men and women. We had grand plans to record our responses to a different podcast that was sent to Amber a few days prior. However, we only got about 8 minutes in to the 2.5 hour video and spent this entire recording debriefing what was said during those 8 minutes, along with what Amber remembered from the first half (since that's all she could stand to listen to). Plans may have been thwarted since we will not be subjecting our nervous systems to the rest of that video, but what we got here is still important. Get angry with us. The Philosophy Problem – Legacy, Power, and the Ideas That Endure

In this episode, we dig into the complicated question of philosophical legacy. When a thinker contributes both brilliance and deeply flawed ideas, how do we evaluate their work (i.e. Immanuel Kant was racist af, y'all. Like, what do we even do with that? And WHY DID NO ONE TELL US THIS???)?*ahem*We explore how history curates and preserves knowledge, why some ideas survive while others fade, and whether so-called 'cancellation' actually achieves anything. We also discuss what it means to inherit intellectual frameworks and how we decide what to keep, what to discard, and what to rebuild from scratch.Topics Covered:Philosophy and Moral Contradictions: Can we separate valuable insights from deeply flawed beliefs? Should we?The Canonization of Ideas: Why do certain philosophies endure while others are erased? Who decides? The Illusion of Cancellation: Does deplatforming a person or idea actually remove their influence, or does it just push it underground?Intellectual Inheritance: When we realize that some of our foundational beliefs have problematic origins, do we discard them entirely, or refine them?Join the Conversation:• Website: hpybx.com

    You Already Have Enough XP

Last season was largely about identity. This season we're going to try (as much as our ADHD brains will allow) to discuss how those identities interact with others... in other words, relationships. We're starting off strong with this one by exploring our relationships with video games (trust me, it will make sense), parents, significant others, and society in general. We chat about the limitations of language and the nuances of human connection. Additionally, we analyze how people react not just to what is done, but to what those actions say about who someone is—and, in some cases, what those actions imply about their perception of others. It's the thing behind the thing, y'all. #HumanConnection #DeepConversations #EmotionalIntelligence #Understanding #PerspectiveShift #Privilege #CommunicationMatters #SeeingAndBeingSeen #EmotionalLabor #TheThingBehindTheThing #PodcastLife #MindfulCommunication #SocialAwareness

You'll hear how differently we experienced it and the stuff it inevitably dug up. Key Topics Discussed: The Emotional Toll of Rejection: The stages of coping: from caring deeply to becoming desensitized, and how occasional glimpses of success can both inspire and hurt. The Metaphor of Friend Shopping: Discussions on being "palatable" to others, the fear of being "returned" to the thrift store, and the pressure to perform in relationships. Authenticity vs. Performance: Are moments of belonging genuine or merely the result of putting on a facade? The Not-So-Commonality of Common Sense

In this prologue to the upcoming two-parter (it's tangentially related, but definitely related), we discuss: What defines being “smart” versus being “intelligent” and how this impacts our self-perception. How neurodivergence affects memory retention and functional use of information. Building personal systems to gamify productivity and track mental and emotional resources. Why we wish for real-time “stats” to measure our energy, emotional capacity, and more. Balancing life-giving work, like HappyBox, with other draining responsibilities. Join us as we dissect our internal processing systems, laugh about creating D&D-style human “stat sheets,” and share how neurodivergent brains navigate the world. How younger generations view the thumbs-up emoji and the anatomy of emoji negativity. The surprisingly poetic way we say, “I don’t want to do that.” Linguistic gems like “whisper noodle,” “officify,” and “walk-around tent party.” Why listening to Coldplay is like scratching a bug bite. Unmasking Neurotypicality: A Journey Through Belief, Lies, and Autistic Identity

"The best way to sell a lie is to believe it.” In this epilogue to the previous episode, we dive a bit deeper on some of the things we talked about in episode 1. We go into the complexities of emotional decision-making, the challenges of reconciling personal truths, and the impact of masking on identity. From hiding autism, to dealing with a past of chronic lying, this conversation offers insight into the struggle of feeling like you don't fit the mold—and the power of uncovering your true self. ABOUT THIS SHOW
