Google is Indeed Testing The Mobile First Index

Today on Webcology we talk about everything need to know up and coming in internet toys. Plus we touch a very cool way a band used facebook live delay. Google's John Mueller confirmed yesterday in a hangout at the 15:38 mark that Google is indeed testing the mobile first index in the live search results. With this test, Google is not only looking to see how much it impacts the searchers and current rankings but they are also building new classifiers for debugging purposes. Have a session idea for SMX West? They would love to hear from you, especially if your idea is about e-commerce marketing. SMX wants your input to help them plan the upcoming SMX West conference, which will be taking place on March 13-15, 2018. Specifically, if you have a great idea for a session that you think should be on the agenda. This is almost too amazing! Using the delayed audio and video from a Facebook Live, the band managed to create a loop version of their song "Bear Claws." It's a little easier to understand if you actually see it in action, but essentially, the band performs for a Facebook Live feed that's then projected behind them. They manage to sync up and perform with the same delayed feed a few seconds later, and as the song progresses, it gets more and more interesting.

Micro-Lending Space Through Investment In Women

Today on Mobile Presence Peggy is joined by Rachel Cook from Seeds. Rachel Cook is the Founder of Seeds. Prior to Seeds, Rachel was a career-profitable futures/equities trader. She left that world after seeing a huge opportunity in the micro-lending space through investment in women, who are statistically more protable. Rachel launched The Microlending Film Project, a feature documentary exploring the impact of microlending on women across four continents, which she directed and produced. Filming in Kenya made her aware of the potential in text message money transfer, as 40% of Kenya's GDP was already being sent through text by 2011. She saw a chance to connect that infrastructure with industries in the developed world and realized that microlending through mobile apps would be something millennials in the West would love. Through this Seeds was born. Seeds is a graduate of the Tech Stars / Barclay’s accelerator in New York. Rachel is a graduate of Duke University.

CLBR #273: Hacking the Vote with Jake Braun

Voting in the United States is under attack. On Wednesday the Supreme Court will hear arguments on partisan gerrymandering that distorts election outcomes. Other courts have weighed in our voter suppression efforts designed to reduce voting by disfavored segments. At the July DEFCON conference, there was a “Voting Machine Hacker Village” which featured more than 30 pieces of equipment for hackers to try their hand at, along with a cyber training range that simulated a board of elections office network and voter registration database. Within the first 90 minutes, hackers successfully hacked several pieces of equipment, including a machine and poll book. Cambridge Global Advisors’ CEO Jake Braun, who originally proposed the idea of the Voting Village, joins us to explain how they did it and what it means for our future elections.
