#18: Your Job Title Is Not Your Identity

What happens when your identity is completely trapped inside your job title? Most high achievers never see it coming. The assumption that your value equals your performance gets wired into your brain long before you have the tools to question it. By the time you notice, it has already dictated your entire life and career. This episode is a raw look at how this hidden script drives burnout, warps your leadership, and spreads through organizations. In this episode I go over:The invisible trap of performance-based worth Why you don't choose to tie your identity to your work, and why it is so incredibly difficult to untangleWhy burnout is a belief problem, not a workload problem The reason no amount of achievement will ever satisfy the core fear of not being enoughUsing work as an unhealthy coping mechanism What happens when professional execution becomes your only tool to avoid facing personal pain. How leader trauma scales into corporate culture Why organizational dysfunction is rarely a systems problem, but rather the unhealed wounds of its leaders. The absolute necessity of inside-out transformation Why building new structures on top of a broken personal foundation guarantees eventual collapse.Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#17: The Head vs. The Heart: Why Organizations Burn Out Their People

I burned out inside an organization that slowly lost its soul. What started as a magnetic culture with incredible energy became a soulless machine where people felt like robots. In this episode, I share the inside story of how it happened—and why the same invisible forces killing organizations are the same ones burning you out individually. What you'll learn:The "Reactive Pendulum" cycle that turns thriving companies into hollow shellsThe six invisible forces producing burnout at every organizational level (and in your personal life)Why wellness programs, leadership workshops, and engagement surveys consistently failThe difference between head problems (systems, processes) and heart problems (culture, trust, belonging)What actually creates lasting change in organizations (hint: it takes 6-12 months, not a one-day event)If you've ever felt invisible at work, watched a place you loved become unrecognizable, or wondered why "doing everything right" still leads to burnout, this episode will give you language for what you've been feeling and a framework for what needs to change.Listen now, and if this one hits home, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#14: How to Win Without Losing Yourself (Ft. Mark Deutsch)

How do you pursue professional success without losing your personal life in the process? In this episode, I sit down with  @MarkDeutsch⁩   a longtime entrepreneur and community leader, to unpack the real cost of ambition. Mark shares how he moved from sales into business ownership, why he chose risk over comfort, and how he learned to step back before work damaged his marriage and family life. #13: The Missing Link in Healthcare (Ft. David Ambrose)

David Ambrose is the owner of Metafit RX and runs a practical care model that bridges the gap traditional healthcare misses. Most people go to their annual physical, get their blood drawn, turn and cough, and walk out with no real understanding of how their body actually functions.David helps burned-out high achievers in their 40s and 50s unlock their metabolic formula so they can live longer and better without sacrificing everything to get there. In this conversation, we talk about:Why visceral fat is the silent killer you can't see in the mirrorThe real reason high performers burn out (it shows up in your body composition)Why alcohol, stress, and poor sleep create a vicious cycle you can't break without interventionThe difference between therapy and coaching (and why most people stay stuck in the self-awareness trap)How diet and exercise outperform antidepressants for depression and anxietyWhy integrated care (physicians, coaches, and therapists working together) is the only model that actually worksThe "volunteers not hostages" philosophy for getting people to changeDavid's work proves that you can't separate physical health from mental health from financial health. They're all connected. And if you're ignoring one, the others will eventually break down.If you're in your 30s-50s, still grinding, and wondering why your body doesn't work the same anymore, this episode is for you.Check Out David Ambrose & Metafit RX ⬇️ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dambrose77/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/metafitrx/Website: https://metafitrx.com/Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#12: Why High Achievers Can't Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination isn't a discipline problem. For high achievers, it's almost always a fear problem — and your brain is really good at hiding that from you.In this episode, I break down the two root causes of procrastination, why perfectionism is the most sophisticated form of avoidance, and what's actually keeping ambitious people stuck in the same loops year after year.In this episode you'll learn:Why 80% of procrastination comes from fear and how your brain covers it up with logic that sounds completely reasonableThe two beliefs that keep high achievers stuck — and why neither one has anything to do with lazinessWhy perfectionism feels productive but is actually just fear with a strategy wrapped around itHow borrowed certainty keeps you from betting on yourself and what to replace it withThe spotlight effect — why the judgment you're afraid of almost never exists the way you think it doesThe one question to ask yourself when you can't figure out why you keep putting something offWhy you have to clear the inner resistance before any tactic will actually stickNewsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#11: The Cost of Proving Yourself (Ft. Ryan McClanan)

Most people think burnout happens when you work too hard. Ryan McClanan would tell you it happens when you work from the wrong fuel.In this episode, I sit down with Ryan, Navy veteran and owner of Victory Pest Management, to talk about what it really looks like to build something from nothing and what happens when the fear that got you there starts working against you.In this episode you'll learn:Why the ambition that builds your success can become the exact thing that destroys itWhat survivor fuel actually looks like in real life and the moment Ryan realized his was running outHow growing up without money creates beliefs that follow you into your business even when you're thrivingWhy borrowed certainty feels safe but keeps you from betting on yourselfThe rock bottom moment that forced Ryan to slow down and do the inner work he'd been avoidingThe difference between abundance as a number and abundance as a feeling and why only one actually fulfills youAbout Victory Pest ManagementRyan McClanan is the owner of Victory Pest Management, serving the Richmond area since 2017. #10: Why Ambition Is Burning You Out (And What to Do About It)

Ambition is supposed to be the thing that gets you to the life you want. So why does it feel like it's destroying you?In this episode, I get personal about my own relationship with ambition — from a kid with no direction, to a Marine who learned to grind through anything, to a high achiever running on fear, shame, and anger until the whole thing collapsed. If you've built real success but it doesn't feel the way you thought it would, this episode is going to name exactly what's missing. In this episode you'll learn:Why ambition alone is a one-way road to burnout and what has to be paired with it to make success sustainableThe difference between ambition and alignment, and why you need both at the same timeWhat toxic fuel is and how fear, shame, and anger can drive real success before they quietly destroy youWhy high achievers often swing from grinding nonstop to doing nothing at all and how to find the balance between the twoHow to tell if the goal you're chasing is something you actually want or something you've been conditioned to wantThe one question to ask yourself when ambition stops workingNewsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#9: Stop Abandoning Yourself (Ft. Ashley Coleman)

Your darkest season might be the most honest one you’ve ever lived. Ashley Coleman joins me for a raw conversation about “dark night of the soul” moments, spiritual awakening, and what it actually looks like to stop abandoning yourself when your nervous system is flooded with fear, shame, or grief. We get practical about inner child healing and nervous system regulation, including the counterintuitive practice Ashley swears by: stop trying to feel better and meet the emotion instead of running from it. We also talk about her path through sobriety, yoga philosophy, Reiki energy healing, and shamanism, and why real trauma healing often requires tracking core wounds like abandonment, betrayal, and separation from source instead of just managing symptoms. Then we shift into the story everyone asked for: how we met at a Charlottesville festival, what we each had to release beforehand, and how raising standards around loyalty, sobriety, and emotional presence changed everything. If you’re rebuilding after burnout, healing relationship patterns, or trying to create a healthier partnership, this conversation will challenge you while keeping it grounded and human.Subscribe for more honest conversations.Enjoy!Dive Deeper with Ashley Coleman Website: https://wingedalchemy.net/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wingedalchemyofficial/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@MysticsPathMysterySchoolNewsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

    #8: Escaping The Self-Improvement Trap

You've read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Taken the courses. You know what you need to do to build your business, be present in your relationships, or take care of yourself. But you still can't make yourself do it.So what's the problem? The self-improvement industry has convinced you that awareness equals transformation. That if you just find the right framework or strategy, everything will click into place. But here's the truth: you don't need more tactics. You need to change the belief that's creating the behavior. In this episode, I share:Why I spent $5,000 on a course I knew wouldn't work (and sold zero of them)The difference between time management problems and prioritization problemsHow a law firm owner tripled her billable hours by changing one beliefWhy the cycle keeps repeating no matter how many strategies you tryThe real reason you can't stick to what you know you should doIf you're stuck in the self-improvement trap, and are  constantly consuming information but never seeing real change...this episode is for you.Enjoy!Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#7: The Price of Soul-less Success

We explore why big wins can feel empty and trace the root cause to the beliefs that shape worth, identity, and behavior. Through personal stories and clear steps, we show how to trade soulless success for alignment that sustains energy and fulfillment.• the trap of push burn recover repeat• beliefs that equate suffering with worth• achievement versus embodiment• how identity filters shape opportunities• two roots of hollow success• questions to test true desire and alignment• spotting limiting buts after naming wants• choosing new beliefs and proving them with behavior• building evidence for worth and ease• sustainable ambition without self-sacrificeEnjoy!Link to apply for free consultation: https://www.build-your-power.com/contactNewsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#5: Why Self-Awareness Is Keeping You Stuck

You've read the books, done the therapy, and can explain your patterns better than anyone in the room. So why are you still stuck doing the same thing? In this episode, we break down the self-awareness trap — the lie the self-improvement industry has been selling you — and shows you exactly what's keeping the gap between knowing and changing wide open. If you're ambitious, self-aware, and still spinning your wheels, this episode will finally give you the right answer. In this episode you'll learn:Awareness is the starting line, not the finish line. Understanding why you do something doesn't automatically change it — that requires a completely different kind of work. The gap between knowing and doing is a belief problem, not a willpower problem. If you're disciplined and still stuck, something inside you is in conflict with what you want.Your "buts" are your beliefs. Whatever comes after "I want to change, but…" is the exact story keeping the pattern alive. You can't think your way into a new belief — you have to act your way in. Small, consistent decisions that contradict the old belief are what build the new one.Ambition without alignment leads to burnout. Ambition gets you somewhere, but if it's not paired with internal alignment, it's unsustainable and comes at a cost. The belief drives the behavior. Until you identify and replace the belief underneath the pattern, no tactic, framework, or boundary-setting exercise will stick long-term.Enjoy!Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#5: Get Rid of People Pleasing (For Good)

We trace how people pleasing forms in childhood and school, how it hides under “leadership,” and why it quietly exhausts high achievers. Then we share a simple process to find the root belief, install a new one, and prove it with small boundary reps. Some key points: • Two households shaping early survival strategies• School conditioning of compliance over choice• belief to story to behavior chain explained• fear as the engine under automatic yeses• leadership myths that reward self-abandonment• spotting people pleasing at work, home, self-care• questions to reveal the limiting belief• choosing a new belief that serves your goals• using small actions to retrain your nervous system• identity shift from “I am” to “I’m unlearning”Enjoy!Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.

#4: Leadership Is An Inside Job

We examine the competency trap, the willpower trap, and how survival mode quietly drains leaders who are “good at it” but no longer alive in it. We share how to pivot toward alignment, use pull motivation, and build sustainable leadership from the inside out. Some Key Points:• why competence can mask misalignment• the learning curve before genuine enjoyment• external skills vs internal identity in leadership• the limits of willpower and push motivation• ambition without alignment equals burnout• survival mode, stimulants and self-abandonment• moving to pull motivation and aligned tactics• trading certainty for self-trust• three reflection prompts for your 2.0 selfEnjoy!P.S. #3: 6 Steps to a More Fulfilling Life

In this episode, I break fulfillment down into something practical. No blowing up your life. No chasing a new version of yourself. We start by reframing burnout. It is not a productivity problem. It is an energy problem. Using seven areas of life, you will quickly spot where your energy is leaking and run a simple one day audit to confirm it.From there, we get clear on how you actually want to feel, not just what you want to achieve. Because success without fulfillment is not sustainable. You will learn how to identify draining habits, uncover the story behind them, and ask one honest question that reveals what is really holding you back. This is not about becoming someone new. It is about removing what is in the way and making daily choices that give you energy back.If you are successful on the outside but feel like something is missing, this episode gives you a clear place to start.Enjoy!Newsletter: Build With Brennan: Designed to help you build a better life, stop surviving, and thrive personally & professionally. My YouTube Channel: Video versions of the podcast and more.Business Website: Helping established businesses develop their people beyond their title through transformative keynote talks, workshops, and group coaching.Other Social Links: LinkedIn, facebook, instagram.
