Broadcast & Technical Discussion With Anton Kapela!

I had the opportunity to talk over Zoom with Anton Kapela, owner of K03IM-D, an ATSC 1.0 TV station broadcasting well over a dozen high quality channels, including many in 4K, by heavily fine-tuning video codecs like HEVC. In addition, Anton Kapela has built innovative networking solutions throughout his career, and has worked for major Internet infrastructure companies like Cloudflare. As CTO and co-founder of EdgeMicro, he explored the technical limitations of Internet architecture through edge networking. He also co-engineered and built the lowest-latency microwave relay network between Chicago and New York for high-frequency trading clients. Anton's research has also lead to the creation of a U.S. patent focused on mobility networking.Broadcasting 4k TV Over ATSC 1.0 - IEEE TV presentation by Anton Kapela: https://ieeetv.ieee.org/video/broadcasting-4k-tv-over-atsc-10?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR7JPsNImQddaRTI08cRoiSYd6K4k51LA6ixfM7V7mhiAkIH7nAcaBOkxJ9ZFw_aem_5HZ7EGTaKg-8wbdLglRZNwBroadcast + The Environment from WNY Over The Air: https://wnyovertheair.com/broadcast+the-environment

Using Modern Codecs With ATSC 1.0 & Technical Broadcast Discussion With igolgi!

I had the opportunity to talk over Zoom with the co-founders of igolgi, Inc.: Jeff Cooper and Dr. Kumar Ramaswamy. They both worked on aspects of the original ATSC standard in the 90s, ATSC 1.0. In 2008 they founded igolgi, whose encoding equipment was used to deploy H.264 at 80+ Bridge News stations across the United States. We also discuss more general, highly technical topics in the broadcast space including efficient video coding, ATSC 3.0, 5G Broadcast, and data carousels pertaining to datacasting with ATSC 3.0.To learn more about igolgi, visit https://www.igolgi.com

    5G Broadcast Discussion With XGN

I had the opportunity to talk over Zoom with the Business Development Manager and Vice President of Operations at XGen Networks, LLC, the company behind America's first 5G Broadcast. I had questions ranging from 5G Broadcast device support to their stance on DRM Encryption. WWOO-LD received a STA from the FCC, not to use ATSC 1.0 or ATSC 3.0, but to use 5G Broadcast, the cellular industry's equivalent to ATSC 3.0. Allowing WWOO-LD to start using 5G Broadcast shows that the FCC is open to other broadcasting technologies that could be used on the public airwaves.
