Write, Read, Question.
by WRQuest
Write, Read, Question is a weekly look at fiction writing advice, techniques, and practice through the lens of an aspiring author. We'll tackle everything from the basics of plot, character, and dialogue to the esoteric of voice, style, and showing. Whether you have never written a draft, have tons of WIPs, or want to evaluate your current novel, I'll have advice for anyone. As a bonus, we'll look at this advice in practical applications, as I write a novel from start to finish, and dig up an old project I wrote when I was a teenager to laugh at. Come along with me to talk, learn, and write.

Write, Read, Question is a weekly podcast where I put to the test writing advice, tips, and techniques while writing my own novel. In this week's episode, we talk about the seven different types of literary conflict (Man, Self, Society, Nature, Supernatural, Fate, and Technology), what they are, how they show up in stories, how I'm planning on using them in my story, and why conflict as a concept is one of the best ways to make your story engaging.Connect with me any time by emailing [email protected], connecting on Discord (@WRQuest), or joining the blog at https://writereadquestion.substack.com/You can find links to the pod on other platforms at linktr.ee/WRQuestLegal:Episode contains New Year Dance by FASSounds and sound effects from Joel Steudler, reathance, and LuffyLogo contains public domain images from CleanPNG andLibre Baskerville by Pablo Impallari and Rodrigo Fuenzalida. All rights reserved and no infringement intended.

EP 5 - The Basics (and Everything Else) of A Story
Write, Read, Question is a weekly podcast where I put to the test writing advice, tips, and techniques while writing my own novel. In this week's episode, we talk about the four absolutely necessary cornerstones of a successful story (plot, characters, conflict, and intent), how to judge for yourself what other pieces should occupy your focus (theme, POV, backstory, etc), and what details you're probably okay to leave until later. Oh, and I lament about having to change story ideas for the novel I'm writing. But it's a change that should result in a stronger product. EP 4 - The 80% Rule (AKA Huge Grains of Salt)
Write, Read, Question is a weekly podcast where I put to the test writing advice, tips, and techniques while writing my own novel. In this week's episode, we talk about our final guideline for improving our writing: the 80% Rule. Essentially, any advice, tropes, rules, guidelines, suggestions, and formulas should be taken as "80% of the time, or more" rather than "always" or "never." We also get a sneak peak at upcoming topics for the next few months, and our intrepid host slightly loses his mind from lack of sleep. It states that to make your novel the best, every aspect of it must be intentionally crafted to point towards and support your story’s effect. We also go over three questions you can ask yourself while writing and editing to help keep you on track in this guideline.
