X-Centric (Christian Shimer)

My name is X-Centric, a name created to reflect my personality and my musical tastes. This album is an mix of experimental , fusing a variety of styles into what I call "Electro-Cine-Technica"! It's a fusion of electronica, techno, acoustic and orchestral sounds. Each track provides its own story as moods from sinister to euphoric are explored. At this time I am a non-performing artist, which means I create music like a work of art; created and never performed again. While I have a deep passion for life, I have anxiety disorder which prevents me from connecting directly with the outside world. I can, however, connect to it through music. Music has always been an important outlet for me, both emotionally and artistically. This album consists of the best music created over the last decade. It will not be the last. I am inspired by events in the world around me and the changes taking place as we struggle to find our humanity in a world determined to make us all into robots. At

    TubularBells

This is my take on the classic Mike Oldfield track from the 1970's, Tubular Bells, made popular in the film The Exorcist. I recreated Part 1 with a few of my own additions and created a sound that aims to invoke emotions of cosmic wonder and existential contemplation!

    Mercy Street

"Mercy Street" by Peter Gabriel is a song inspired by the poetry of Anne Sexton, particularly her work that explores themes of loss, longing, and the search for redemption. The lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and introspection, reflecting personal struggles and the desire for solace. Anne Sexton struggled with bipolar depression and Peter Gabriel admired her poetry because she didn't write to be discovered or to be discussed, she wrote to get the pain out. The song's imagery evokes feelings of disorientation and the complexities of human emotions. The "Mercy Street" itself can be interpreted as a metaphorical place of refuge or healing, where one seeks comfort amidst turmoil. The recurring themes of memory and the passage of time suggest a yearning for connection and understanding, both with oneself and others. I very much relate to these feelings. Overall, "Mercy Street" captures the essence of navigating through pain and the hope for compassion and relief, making it a deeply emotional and resonant piece. This is my take on the classic song featuring a piano improvisation which evolved from privately playing along with this music as part of the soundtrack of my life. This track is dedicated to my father John Shimer who has been my personal partner and savior in my struggles with anxiety and depression providing refuge, healing, and redemption repeatedly throughout my life. Through his love and dedication as a father, he has created my “Mercy Street”. It felt important to thank him while he is still alive and in the most emotional and creative way I know of, through music. It is also a sentiment I wish to share with my extended tribe as mercy will be needed by all of us as we endure the next few challenging years in America. Be each other’s Mercy Street!
