I don't know if you're familiar with this ancient martial art. It's a martial art that has its roots in the enslaved Mbundo people of the Kingdom of Ndongo, which today corresponds to Angola. At that time, many years ago (no specific date is known, although the first mention is from 1789), there was a formal military group in which soldiers were trained for combat. When the Mbundu people were captured and made slaves, sold on the slavery routes to work in Brazil, these same combat arts gave rise to what is now known as “Capoeira”. Capoeira is recognized as a set of complex and acrobatic movements, involving rodas, pirouettes, mortals and inverted kicks, all based on continuous and fluid movements, rather than stationary positions. There is a part of its demonstration called “ginga”, where a back and forth movement, with a swing of the torso, in which a fighter approaches and moves away from his opponent in a rhythmic way, is very reminiscent of what can be considered choreography. This afternoon began with a performance by the younger students, accompanied by the main instructor, Mestre Sargento. This was followed by the presentation of other schools and masters who had come to this event from other countries, namely Luxembourg, Brazil, Spain, the UK, among many others. The new belts were awarded to the students who had moved up a rope level, and they performed two by two in a circle, with one going out and the other coming in. Nesta tarde, começou com a atuação das escolinhas, com os alunos mais novos, acompanhados pelo instrutor principal, chamado de Mestre Sargento. É notório a capacidade que ele tem de liderar as crianças, e de o fazer respeitar o decurso da aula, mas sempre em tom de brincadeira e de divertimento. Seguiu-se a apresentação de outras escolas e mestres que vieram para este evento de outros países, nomeadamente, Luxemburgo, Brasil, Espanha, UK, entre muitos outros. Houve uma atribuição das novas faixas aos alunos que subiram de nível de corda, com uma actuação entre eles dois a dois, com uma roda, em que saía um e entrava outro. Fiz uma pequena edição dos vários vídeos que eu fiz nessa tarde. Apesar de não ter ficado muito perto do palco, penso que dá para perceber bem a capacidade física dos capoeiristas, bem como da sua coordenação com os outros lutadores que estavam a gingar com eles. I don't like photographing and filming performances that I see live from “one end to the other”. I think we end up not experiencing the unique opportunity of having the artist performing in front of us... And it's precisely for us, and being distracted by looking at a cell phone screen or camera greatly reduces our experience, intensity and pleasure at all levels. On April 6th, there was a free event at an institution just over half an hour's drive from my house. It was a performance by a Ukrainian folklore group! Of course I couldn't pass up this opportunity. The project, called Litá Folk Band, was made up of four young Ukrainians, two of whom spoke Portuguese very well and the other two could express themselves very well in English. It was a real spring afternoon. And what a pleasant one it was. In addition to the traditional Ukrainian folk songs, which have many roots in various regions of the country, there was also a part of the performance where we went outside and the rest of the audience could take part in various traditional dances. These four young people, who study Ukrainian folklore, came to Portugal in August 2022 to escape the war. In this first video I want to show the vocal abilities of these young people, who sing in polyphony. It was simply fantastic, and I have to confess that I got goose bumps! One of the young men, Danylo, who is only 17 years old, built his own stringed instrument, called a bandura. Há algum tempo que eu estou para experimentar o Frontend 3Speak, e hoje é o dia em que vou fazer a minha primeira publicação com recurso a vídeo. Antes de mais espero que não esteja a incorrer numa falta grave por ter filmado com o telemóvel na horizontal, e não em modo retrato. Confesso que na altura, quis incluir a maior área possível, e tentar não cortar os artistas. No passado dia 6 de Abril, havia um evento gratuito numa instituição a pouco mais de meia hora de carro da minha casa. Era a actuação de um grupo de folclore Ucraniano! E claro que não poderia deixar fugir esta oportunidade. O projecto chamado de Litá Folk Band apareceu composto por 4 jovens ucranianos, dois deles que falavam muito bem o português, e os outros dois conseguiam expressar-se muito bem em inglês. Estava uma verdadeira tarde de primavera. E que agradável foi. Para além das músicas tradicionais de folclore Ucraniano, com muitas raízes em várias regiões do país, houve também uma parte da actuação onde fomos para o exterior, e em que os demais presentes puderam fazer parte de várias danças tradicionais. Esses quatro jovens que estudam o folclore ucraniano, vieram em Agosto de 2022 para Portugal para fugir da guerra. Neste primeiro vídeo quero mostrar as capacidades vocais destes jovens, que cantam em polifonia. Foi simplesmente fantástico, e confesso que fiquei com pele de galinha! Um dos jovens, de seu nome Danylo, apenas com 17 anos foi ele próprio que construiu o seu instrumento de cordas, chamado de bandura.
