Dream Catchers - Celebrating Life Again after Brain Injury

I am a long-term multiple brain injury and aneurysm survivor. It literally took me falling out of life into a coma that I nearly died from to realize what love, life, and community truly mean! I thought I was a good person. I always tried to help others always felt that I understood life but not until the day I fell through the earth and deep into the fractured painful and alarming world of disability did aia undrestand how bad it can be! It took many years of heartache and severe pain to realize that I could love and laugh again and have a really fun life even though I suffer very painful monstrous migraines and cognitive short-term memory loss. I decided long ago that I wasn’t going to let all of that define me but let my my actions instead, And That’s Why Am a Dream Catcher and I want you to blaze your own new trails with us and boldly go where no person with these disabilities has ever gone before!!!!!! I guess it’s time for me to pull out the brain injury toolkit again and add some new things to the box because if you are a brain injury survivor, caregiver, or friend or family of someone living with TBI.We all need to learn how to work together as a team so tonight I’m going to ask you to help me add to the tool kit much like a gardener would need to plant the seeds of hope and acts of kindness to find ourselves again after  brain injury! Les Paul Morgan is a dedicated Peer Support Specialist and Independent Living Advocate for Walton Options for Independent Living, he sits on the board of the brain injury Associations of South Carolina, and Georgia and strongly believes in the power of music therapy and the human spirit after disability because to him disability does not mean inability!!!!

Everybody out their - Dream Catchers - LesPaul Morgan

The words of a new song by Paul McCartney called Everybody out there motivated me to come up with it as part of my shows title for my show tonight.) Hey, Everybody out there. You know what it's like. If you haven't got a life, When you haven't got a life, Hey, do you want to make a difference? Well, stand in the line If you haven't got the time I can give you some of mine There, but for the Grace of God go you and I We're the brightest objects in the sky There, but for the Grace of God go you and I Do some good before you say goodbye Through time their have been people who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to caring, compassion, and a new life or about the real cost and challenge to survivors of TBI and aneurism survivors around the World but giving us a voice and standing with and for the survivors that is where the pavement meets the road! Do you know what it’s like, I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you!!! Tonight let’s talk about survivors reaching out to other survivors and showing the care and compassion that it will take to make a difference in a way that only one survivor to another can provide and by truly stepping up to the plate and helping those who feel disfranchised and abandoned around the World! Lets make a difference in the lives of Millions so talk to me!!! 'The Matt Duffin Show' - IT'S LOVE!!

Yes, indeed - It's Love.  Uh, no, not me (it's lot like I'm "crazy" or anything!!! :^) A lady's labor of songs, working in life - and what a life she's created for a traumatic survivor - Singer/Songwriter/Harvard Grad/Family Leader/Chicken-Raiser/& More,  with strength extrodinair - Miss Sharen Wendy Robertson returns to TMDS to release a very special new song (right here on BIRadio) - It's Love! Straight from the Boston studio to your Milton studio of Brain Injury Radio, Sharen offers her new song, "It's Love", which will join Landon Walker's ''Livin' On The Edge" as the formal opening and closing songs for the show.  (yes, FINALLY a decision has been made).  Deep with lyrics, mating TBI  life with life.    So, after Sharen joins us at the top to the show and explains the meaning of the song; call in and share your story of love.  Recieved or given.  How has a TBI effected your Love?   Many loves are devided by a Traumatic Brain Injury, and in my opinion, only love will fix the pains.  I love my daughters, my dad, my home town - even 'loved' different woman; or so I said.  Did I love; or just love the moment? Many thoughts run from love.  Run the love thru tonight - define the joy or pain.  Define having a TBI and missing what was once "true love" but may never be again.  Or is it, and will it?   (424 243-9540) call with opinions, thoughts, desires or confusion of all type of love.  And certianly remember as we try to stay focused - I love you folks...  We'll work on our Social Skills, and flip thru the Coping Skills "Bible" and see what lands.

The What Ever Show - hosted by Craig Sicilia

The What Ever Show Life is full of challenges, some you can get through quickly and others just linger on, Professionally I am just finishing up a 100 day or so project which in my mind should have been about a 30 day project, as i crash my hosting companies servers they tell me their servers can't do the technology I need.  (full details of 3 new processes pantended by the survivor network) full details at the bottom link . Mean time the rest of the world kept on doing what it does, people dying and sustaining brain injuries, my heart goes out to all of our new brothers and sisters,  professionals monetizing us and marketing and fundraising getting lots of money for things that will disappear when the money is gone but mean time build their egos.  Politicians and scientists doing studies and grand collaborations  with the experts in brain injury, that one makes me laugh they are so interested in building their egos they forgot to include survivors who are the real experts in living brain injury.  Wake up Americans with brain injuries, you might have been broke but do you need fixing still, maybe your were left with mental illness caused by a controlling over drugging medical model thats been listening to someone elses voice for years..  Educate families what is happening so they don’t fall apart, teachers so they don’t give up, society so they know it’s not a act, Click here for full details http://tbisurvivorsnetwork.ning.com/events/whatevershow1013

Dream Catchers - Identity Crisis - with LesPaul

Identity Crisis - Dream Catchers - LesPaul I have to admit that when I look back at my life before and after TBI I had struggles and challenges but the difference in before and after is that because of how severe my injuries where I lost control of my life and everyone from Doctors, to Family, members, care givers had to sit back and watch the horror of what I was going through while at the same time given little or no hope of my recovery. My goal Tonight Is to show you using several examples that there is great hope and encouragement in a life and a future after TBI so I hope you will come with an open mind put on your thinking cap and get ready to rumble because we as survivors can also become thrives so put on you sun glasses and get ready to take a ride with me LesPaul the Dream Catcher My Identity Crisis began when everyone who thought they knew my outcome was proven wrong one after another but at the same time my role as an Independent single Man was slowly vanishing away as my conditions appeared to no chance of success but they were wrong!!!!! Often after Injury people want to live our lives for us but I am here tonight to say survivors take charge of your destiny and Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister or whoever back off a bit and give survivors a chance to do it independently and learn a whole new kind of life after Brain Injury which will change the World for survivors everywhere!

'The Matt Duffin Show' - Are You Ready For Some Football?

It's fall, everyone except folks in L.A. root for a football team (Go Colts!), so let's have that 'Concussion Discussion', but not NFL style, or even college level.  Where it all begins, High School Football.  Here's a very inside look, at concussion and brain injury awareness.  A smaller enrollment but large in life, Lincoln High football itself is having a competitive season "in transision."  Uh, 15 freshmen or sophomores - and they all play.  Last week was a crisp, clear ball game in Canal Town for the "Milk Jug" against county foe Northeastern.  LHS lost, 58-7.  Enough of the "Trauma Sports" segment.  Yet the Golden Eagles final regular season game hosts arch rival Hagerstown, also 'rebuilding.'  A combined 0-16, somebody has to win!  But Lincoln & H-Town always does, because there are administraters, team mates, students and community's that care.  From Coach Phil Renforth, thru Priniciple Mike Cerqua and Dr. Jim Bertsch inbetween, let's offer many interesting interviews of a school systems view. TMDS will probably play some songs, and we in the "Greater Milton Area" wish Mike a happy Monnday night atthe Colts game.  Yes, along with a constant, speedy recovery.  I'll peek in on the baseball playoffs and expect a call from YOU (please)..  Go ahead, interupt my sports life; I interupt  you all the time!    Oh yeah, speaking of which, I'm "allowed" to go over "my version" of the Social Skills Research class, and I will, but, uh, well, even though every one in class agreed to let you listen, the DoD doesn't wish public ear.  I'll sneak stuff in.  Oh, my mouth...My hands has been smacked so many times in life, Lincoln Alum?  You'd think I was a Catholic School flunkie....

    WTF - w/Kevin A. Phillips - Statements or Truths?

THIS WEEK:  True Statements or Temporary Truths? Everyday we have between 40-60,000 thoughts, that will span across a variety of subjects, even without excessive stimulation from external sources. So, what are we doing with all of these thoguhts, knowing "Thoughts are THINGS"? How can we become better managers of the thoughts that are creating the realities we experience? Brain Trauma has become a Global Epidemic with insiduous results if left untreated or is misdiagnosed (as a Mental Health Disorder, albeit bi-polor, ADHD, Schizophrenia, etc). Join us tonight to increase awareness and understanding of LIFE with a TBI.  Tune in this week to add another perspective to your daily repertoire.  If there is something in particular you would like to hear Kevin discuss, join us on Fridays and share in the chat room with the "Marvelous Maggie" (Kevin's 24/7 Partner and Professional Care Assistant)

Dream Catchers - TBI Care & Compassion - Les Paul We all as individuals and as a team should make a point to make a call or schedule a visit with our State, local or federal elected officials and let them know our concerns on brain injury policy because if we come together as a strong and united group we can change the World for people with TBI and related disabilities everywhere! Professional TBI survivor - Dream Catchers - LesPaul

Professional TBI survivors - Dream Catchers - Les Paul We usually hear the term professionals in the Brain Injury World only from medical professionals and providers, and agencies that specialize in providing care but tonight we are going to talk about it in a much different approach! I am saying it’s time to start view us the survivors as professionals and care givers and we all need to have a meeting of the minds in the middle. As an advocate for social changes for people with TBI and any disabilities and working as a facilitator and support group leader I no longer want to see the us or them approach to survivors and thrives but instead a peer support team of survivors and medical providers saying its nearing 2014 and we are not willing to put up with the lack of needed social and medical model changes for TBI Survivors everywhere around the World and it’s time to take a stand that were not going to take it like that anymore!!! Power to the people the people with TBI and related disabilities around the World!!! I would love to see a coming together of us as professional survivors and meet with medical professionals, Brain Injury agencies and association to build the ultimate dynamic duo of a team!!!! Join me tonight for an Inspiring discussion on Dream Catchers with Les Paul. Call in at (424) 243-9540 and press 1 to speak.

777 - LUCK OR DESTINY - DOES IT MATTER 7 year itch as they say, with a brain injury do i itch at 7 yearS what do i do, where has the 7 years went, What do i feel, do i feel,  Is it just me or are we invisible and some become rich off us, other just take what they want, And services they give us who the hell figures them out, our choice, our lives, our very essence not once do they ask us,  I love it when they get a panel of experts on tbi and maybe there will be a survivor but ussually a token or bought through megger paycheck.  We are not hidden we are ignored.  Why am i so obsesive, who am i anyway, at first everyone couldnt recognize me now i can't.  The new me is in a transparent demension watching the things that use to be me. And we get to watch it in slow motion and noone can see us anymore.. These questions and more will we talk about because i truly don't know the answers.  Is there a treasure at the end of the rainbow, have i made it better for people with brain injury or is it just part of the blur or nightmare that we call brain injury.  Would it have been better that i blend into the crowds of society or do i share my story of hell with the world.  Since their ignorance and decades of profiting has made brain injury silent and hidden to the world

'The Matt Duffin Show' - Brain Injury Coping Skills

Frustration, confusion and learning how to deal with those actions after a Traumatic Brain Injury.  Good Luck!  But there can be adjustments made, as we attempt to become "more pleasant" to be around (if we can be around them!).  TBI's take your emotions, paranonia and distress, mix them in the same 'bag' only to of the shoulder.  Folks get confused, of our actions, words and ideas (which are usually screwy at best) when stimuli takes control.  We talk and talk, say things I doubt any one but the TBI speaker really understands.  We are blessed around Indy, and its past time to share lesson's learned.  BICS - brain injury coping skills.  Now beginning to be offered world wide, I was of the first (and continuous) 'students' to graduate from the BICS - and and as learning to be a PEER Mentror was enrolled in several (6) more of the 20 week course of understanding.  Caregivers by our side, we discuss, understand and learn ways (beyond strategys) to Cope With Every Day Life, at least at times.   Are there slip ups?  I don't know, how was YOUR morning?  Did your TBI as get in the way of understanding?   Myself?  Every day, all day long, even with traveling the path taught by the Dr.. Lisa Thompson Foundation 'Family Center' by Dr. Samantha Backhaus and others.  I'll post some conversations of BICS, and probably touch on the 'new' Social Skills with a TBI research program.  Group said I could.  Listen in as various folks with a TBI discuss, learn and adjust.  Why?  Trust me, there is NO WHERE ELSE ON EARTH you can listen in.  See, my social and coping skills aquired permission for such an offering.  Learn. share but grab a pencil,  to make "Mental Notes on Paper".   Or, as my ol' buddy Landon Walker would sing "Give Me Love, And A Little Kindness"....

'The Matt Duffin Show' - BIRN Inside the IBIA Confernce

TMDS spent the week aside the Indiana Brain Injury Association (BIRN and I thank you), where a variety of interviews and information was attained. OK, so sleep wasn't often obtained.  TIRED, TBI tired but back in the Milton Studio putting the conference together.  I can't (at this memory point) remember all I talked with; from IBIA Exec Director Lora Miller, the internationally regocnized Dr. Jim Malek and Dr. Flora Hammond to Julia Pratt, a Support Group Leader, mix and match of knowledgeable classes. And my weekend hero, Miss Olivia, the 10-year old daughter of Life Coach Darcy Keith and current Miss Indiana Pre-Teen.  Her interview will touch your heart, as her father is a stroke survivor, and Darcy a TBI thriver.  However, it always like Christmas to me, I'll have to calm down and stop playing with the new toys found....I will, more late, and more next week.  I'm in negociations with a professional radio host, to become TMDS co-host (see ya Jasmine) who is directing the Joy's House for TBI surviors in Indy, along with many more and the georgeous Dr. Taron S!  We'll take a stroll down vendor lane.  Oh yeah, my 'nonfunctionalbe' TBI began the week once again under the knowledge of Dr. Samantha Backhaus and RHI Neuro's Social Skills reaserch study program privately with 7 associated survivors.   Miracle League Baseball came to a close - happy and sad.  But I now have baseball cards, a trophy and friends beyond my imagination!   Did I mention Mahlon may be getting his own show with Tonya?  I doubt pictures make the shows lineup, some where in that pile of information (and clothes) my camera is.  Not a priority after 13 hours of sleep - BIRN listeners are!

WTF - with Kevin A. Phillips - Caretakers vs Caregivers

THIS WEEK: Caretakers vs Caregivers, What do you CARE?, Is there a difference between caretaking and caregiving? Although many people interchange these two words,  it is imperative that we understand how they are not the same. Remember,  the words we use in thought and speech,  creates the realities that we see. While "care" is the same in both words,  it's the 'give' and 'take' that significantly impacts how care is provided. One crosses boundaries while the other creates new ones.  One is judgmental and the other is nonjudgemental.  One "fixes" the problem while the other creates solutions.   Tonight,  Kevin will share his experiences of having people in his life who took on one or the other role during his journey,  particularly after acquiring his brain injury. Kevin will examine these roles as he points out the key differences between caretaking and caregiving. While it is true that "One person caring about another represent's life's greatest value," (Jim Rohn) it is the presentation of caring that makes the difference in creating a FUNctional life. Call in @424.243.9549 or join us online http://www. 'The Matt Duffin Show' - It's A Miracle!! Baseball that is..

The focus tonight on TMDS will focus on baseball, Miracle League baseball for all ages.  At 53 with a shattered right shoulder, I had accepted my hardball career was finished.  Look not, #34 is back on the mound!  The New Castle Miracle League offers disabled abled beings a true league, diivisions, uniforms, rules and tie games.  Almost baseball.  Young players are announced, smile and have a'buddy' beside them, at field and at bat.  And the fans are outstanding, more than sharing Little League communications.  Cindy Brooks, the local commish and guru of all,  will appreciatedly call in to excplain more of the nation wide opportunity.  Was you aware young and old disabled people could play baseball?  I wasn't, until this summer.  This is not Paraolypician or Special Sports, this is baseball for all, like America intended it to be.  Family's, buddy's, coaches and players all in the same dugout, the same field, the same icee shop, the same laughs.  Anticipating a Special Needs teacher to call me as well.  Oh, and I did play-by-play was we played one inning.  Sports writer on the field.   Hey, it was all in fun.  As the Ranger team and all the Miracles look at baseball with sunshine.  Remember, baseball is life, and life is baseball....

Dream Catchers - Re inventing yourself after TBI - Les Paul

In my late teens and early 20,s I had big Dreams of becoming a professional Moto Cross Racer much like the legendary World Champion Team Suzuki hall of fame Racer Roger DeCoster! I loved spending several hours per Day practicing stunts, jumping, and riding with my friend too get ready to race. At that same time I would experience sometimes really bad headaches but never thought much about them and when they were over I was OK.  Little did I know that age 22 I would suddenly scream with massive paine as I had just sufferd the 1st of 2  very severe Brain Aneurysms and later 3 TBI, s. When preparing to do this program I got thinking to myself the brain is beautiful because even after TBI I found myself not wanting to live but at the same time my Family were fighting for me to fight for myself to recover and re train my Brain to re learn lost memories but also discover I am capable of Re-inventing myself after discovering I was still alive and thinking!!! Now it’s time to practice living life again and finding the courage to learn new skill, find new friend, and go after our Dreams with gusto as we take the journey of a life time to rediscover and rebuild a new life after Brain Injury!

'The Matt Duffin Show' - Jeni, SSS & True Friends

Labors of a TBI Labor Day Weekend.  Happily, my labors are of love - brain injury awareness love.  That's why I'm at the desk, as the rest of you folks enjoy the long weekend!   That, and it was my night to work.  Happy because not only can we share inner peaceful love together, or at least understandable love on TMDS weekly.  But because of friends, far apart or near-by; long-term or freshly met - friends you find to be true as our experience in 'freindship' after TBI wanes.  A WONDERFUL friend I have met on braininjuryradio.com is Jennifer Stokely, a TBI survivor from Pottstown, PA.  The creator of SSS - Semi-Support Sisterhood for TBI Survivors with a social media foundation grows daily, if not hourly.  Interesting information from nationally recognized programs of recovery is the main focus presented.  And a loving array of personal correspondence from her thoughts on paper is written with encouraging and awaiting replys.  Jeni and I sorta came in this whole ordeal together a few years back, and with true understandings found friendship.  Always a regular caller on TMDS, her busy, busy life of insperation has seen talk time slow.  "Not tonight Lil' Sis, Big Brother has caught you!"  Please call in, talk and learn, teach, offer, share.  That's how my true friend and I like things to be always, open and forever...BTW:  Anyone have a leftover 'Burger or Pie?  I'm starving!
