ZICO (Boaz Goldberg)
by ZICO (Boaz Goldberg)
Boaz Goldberg aka ZICO (1974) is a documentary filmmaker, musician and an interdisciplinary artist. He worked as a music journalist for more than a decade ("Zman Tel Aviv", "City Mouse", "The City", "Israel Today") and meticulously covered the alternative music scene in Israel. Goldberg later had several editing and directing jobs in many television programs. He also dabbled in painting, photography and recording music. In the 90’s, he was the first Rock-N-Roll & Mod DJ in Israel, and played bass for the Tel Avivian Punk-Britpop band Cnaque/Pop. In 2000, he had a brief collaboration with the now legendary Charlie Megira (Gabi Abudraham). Together they formed Les Lost Boys (Naarey Ha-Hefker). They recorded Megira’s hit, “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, and worked on the song “Pink World”, which is revisioned in ZICO's album, HEADLESS ELVIS.Goldberg later joined 80’s Israeli Rock-journalist godfather, Kobi Or, for a noise-drone duo called NEMEK, and then formed the short-lived experimen

Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach, San Diego. One of the most beautiful and magical places on earth. I lived there for a year when I was 12 years old. I haven’t been there since the early 1990s and I find myself full of yearning for that faraway atmosphere. This is my little homage - Classical guitar, nonchalant humming, a touch of percussion, and a crashing ocean wave. Produced & engineered by ZICO (Boaz Goldberg) Written, composed and performed by ZICO (Boaz Goldberg): Classical Guitar, Vocals, Percussion Recorded at ZICO's place in April, 2026 Cover art design by Boaz Goldberg Photographed by Giora Goldberg This track is the second single from ZICO's full LP, "Reverse Reverbe"

The Nineties
This is a track taken from the album THE LAST INTERESTING REVOLUTION by CNAQUE POP. For Full Album listening please go to ZICO'S (Boaz Goldberg) Bandcamp or any other streaming platform (Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube etc.) https://zico3.bandcamp.com/ * * * Israeli band Cnaque/Pop, which operated from 1994 to 1999 in Tel Aviv, never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Although it was the hottest band of its time, performing dozens of times and having many hits, a trendy party line and fans, its childish behavior and the conservatism of the record companies meant that it never released an album in real time. Today, almost 20 years after its founding and after the band had gained a certain mythological reputation among an audience that had not attended any of its performances, the band members decided to release that Rock-N-Roll album of that long gone period, to give it a chance. “The Last Interesting Revolution” is based on studio recordings, demos, and a few performances and rehearsals. Surprisingly, the music has not aged. On the contrary, it sounds more refreshing, edgy and contemporary today than ever, perhaps because Israeli music has only moved backwards since the 1990s. The lyrics are still bright, the guitars produced by Ram Orion and others are still hot, and the combination of Glam Rock, Disco Punk and old-school Israeli Mizrahi music within Britpop is still original. The fact that the band had a trendy message and even spun the pre-hipster line "We're not a band, we're hair stylists, this isn't a song, this is a shirt, give us money" has no contest today. Almost everything has become more boring and grayer. Beyond the fact that the album will provide an opportunity to listen to beautiful songs that have been lost, it's an opportunity to make a small historical correction, a kind of archaeological salvage dig: to remind you that somewhere in the nineties there were some snobs in suits who tried to do something different, with bright Technicolor dreams, and failed. So let's repeat the request in the song: give us money. In short: The best band in the world. Formed in 1994, it played countless shows but miraculously managed to miss every opportunity that came its way to sign with a record company or label. Cnaque/Pop went through several incarnations - from punk rock to Britpop to glam rock. It disbanded in 1999. All of its members (except one) went on to have successful journalism careers. Watch a short documentary about the band by director Yaniv Sardel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL2Oahm3apE Credits: Lyrics: Roy Chicky Arad Music: Dvir Volk, Boaz Goldberg, Nitzan Horesh Recorded in 1996 Roy Chicky Arad: Lead Vocals Dvir Volk: Guitars, Vocals Boaz Goldberg: Bass Guitar, Vocals Nitzan Horesh: Electric Guitar, Vocals Lenny Ben Basat: Drums, Vocals Musical production: Cnaque/Pop and Eyal Even Zur Released January 14, 2014

PINK WORLD (Early Charlie Megira cover - Alternate Version)
This is the first song that Gabi Abudraham, later to be known as CHARLIE MEGIRA, recorded on his 4-channel tape. It happened in 1999 and it was titled "Pink World" (OLAM VAROD). This is the early version of track 2 from my full LP, HEADLESS ELVIS and it's a cover version of the 1999 recording. https://zico3.bandcamp.com/ "Pink World" official music video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBnG0OCZ1is The original Megira's recording was lost, but what was not lost is the whole movement of the song inside my head. It was supposed to be a song by Les` Lost Boys (Naarey Ha-Hefker) - the short-lived duo of Gabi and mine. We worked on it a lot and then we stopped, but I - even in periods where I had not played for many years - saved it. And saved. And saved. Now the song "Pink World" is reborn, and this time I do the guitars and vocals. Charlie Megira would call such an act: “the other possibility”. A bit like you see in one of his favorite films, “Mulholland Drive”, with all the parallel realities happening there. Eventually I chose to release it as an outtake from my documentary film about CHARLIE MEGIRA, Tomorrow's Gone (available to watch on Vimeo-on-demand). This song is also part of my solo LP as ZICO, titled "Headless Elvis" and available here at my Bandcamp profile. Words and Music by Goldberg-Abudraham (Les` Lost Boys/ Naarey Ha-Hefker, 2000) Boaz Goldberg (ZICO): Electric Guitar, Vocals Produced by Boaz Goldberg & Sagi Barnes Recording Engineer, Mix & Mastering: Sagi Barnes "Pink World" was recorded in 2017

At first, the cricket himself sang it - and it came out nice. Then he brought some Chinese singer from Berlin and it turned out a little less well. Then, on the third attempt, this happened: Joe decided to bring Sharon Reuveni to sing for him. Boom. The song became perfect. If anyone knows how to sing, it's Sharon. And how did I know it all? Because Joe, who's based in Berlin, likes to send me files of his recordings right after he closes an initial mix. I played this thing to Lousha, while we were sitting at my place not long ago, firecrackering and babbling. Lousha: "What an indie song!!!". And I'm like: "Lousha, we've been talking about the Sony and Share project for more than 12 years. In theory, we have a whole album ready, with titles and names for the songs and everything. And you, busy with your politics and demonstrations, haven't sat down on your Cubase for about three years. Come on Let's Remix it! Lousha!?!¤*#!". I didn't have to say much more. Lousha understood that there was a real opportunity here. We were immediately thrown back 11 years, to the old, bigger Zimmer, in Hagdood Ha-Ivry Street, Tel Aviv, to an Opioids gig. It's not just how Sharon sings, but also how she performs. Me and Lousha in the audience, flying on it. I especially remember the song “Frustration”, with the strong metallic breaks, the blocked chords and the rhythm changes. What a beauty. And no less beautiful is that today, when I hear Sharon perform her song “Stupid Situations” as Sharon Sometimes, I can even hear fragments of late 70’s/early 80’s Peter Hammill going on there, whether Sharon is aware of it or not. In short, this is a special singer and, as our friend Rafi Perach likes to write, versatile...

This is a postmodern duo by Dvir Volk and me from 1996, which, like so many notable titles in the 90's, also received the word "super". The idea was to merge 90's big beats with samples of Mod bombs and Rhythm and Blues hits - and then, through the amphetamines that the samples get, to create something new. It wasn't what they called "Big Beat" back then. At the time we were working on SuperShaker, Fatboy Slim had yet to release his debut album, and his first single, released in March 1996, was not so impressive for our ears. We didn't understand exactly what we were doing, so, at least in our eyes, it turned out gracefully. We didn't try to create something new in the modern sense of the word. Let's say that the atmosphere in which we operated was so postmodern, that in the show itself, under the influence of some promo photo of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd from 1967, it was very important for me to show that my bass guitar was *not* plugged in, and this is to emphasize the synthetics of the music we created. I performed with the guitar on me but without any cable. I wanted to look sort of like a mannequin on Carnaby Street in 1966, and I think it worked. After all, our one and only performance took place at one of the Glory Nights Mod parties. I remember myself standing there in front of the railing of the gallery, next to the DJ stand where Dvir was playing the tracks, and catching Gabi (Charlie Megira) on the stairs with Natan and Michal Boaz (his first girlfriend), staring at me, his eyes popping from the strange doll idea. Dvir and I, SuperShaker. At the time we were both members of Cnaque/pop band going on a musical side project. While things in Cnaque/Pop became a bit nerve-racking about the contract that NMC would or wouldn't offer (there was a meeting at Cafe Tam, after which we were left in the air) - SuperShaker was a fun and refreshing release from all the Cnaque madness. That summer of 1996, I hung around at the apartment of Dvir and his flat-partner Lisa Peretz, there in Arlozorov near Yehoshua ben Nun. Dvir was a golden guitarist, everyone knew that, but in the summer of 1996 - an early stage in his musical career - not many knew that Dvir also knew how to work with midi and create electronic music. In the A-side track you hear, for example, the drums of Charlie Watts (who recognizes from which Stones song?) put on a loop and holding the whole thing. Or the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" riff being flipped and manipulated. And the crazy moogs from the easy listening classic "Kaleidoscopic Vibrations" also came to the party. The B-side came out more in the atmosphere of a band that we really loved then (and still love) - Saint Etienne. You can also feel strong lounge influences like Towa Tei (the Japanese guy from Deee-Lite) and Stereolab. After all, we are talking about a summer in which the phenomenon of Mike Flowers Pops was powerfully enchanting. For a few months, it seemed that the whole world turned into a beautiful Easy Listening album cover.
