This is my entry for the 7th Annual Bedroom DJ Competition. Although it's just 1/2 hour cut out of a 3hr recording I'd already made, I think it's unique in the sense that it's not just "big summer '17" bangers, it's got tracks from the past 20 years, it's got a range of styles/genres, it's got acapellas, it's got one of my own original house remixes...it's my vision of what a daytime summer pool party in Ibiza should sound like. As if the music at this monthly wasn't already self-indulgent enough, being my birthday made it even more self-indulgent! So I dj at my daughters' school about 4-5 times a year, which means I basically turned it into a quarterly "DJ-J-ME Goes Pop!" series, recording these live mixes at their school dances. So this one is the OPPOSITE of a Soul Shack mix, but 100% kid friendly clean radio edit top 40/mainstream stuff, trying to include all the current big songs (as well as a few that haven't gotten big yet, but I think will) and hugely influenced by DJ Clymaxxx on Kiss 92.5. So enjoy with your kids, or enjoy all by yourself if it's a guilty pleasure! (And be thankful that for this CD edit version, I cut out the 'have to play every time' "Cha Cha Slide" lol! Be warned, it starts off a little slow and trap-ish with Black Beatles & The Weeknd's Party Monster, but it keeps building into dance tempo. There's also a few easter eggs in there for people my age in the form of instrumentals from the early 2000's, meant more for parents to appreciate than the kids at the dance lol!

So January was the annual house music recap, and for February it's now become somewhat of a tradition to do a lounge music (non-house) recap of the previous year. My annual house music recap from the previous year! When I started putting this playlist together I was thinking that there wasn't much house music in 2016 that I was really feeling, I even pondered if there'd be enough to make the annual January mix, but then once I started putting the list together, low and behold, it was over 50 songs deep! So here it is, a collection of house music that caught my attention last year, an eclectic mix with a noticeable portion having a classic house influence in the sound/production. It's summer outside and this mix is pure summer fun! This mix is also something new for me, it's the first time I played off of a USB stick instead of setting up my Serato box and laptop (I'm finally moving with the times!) So although in my eyes last years DYWB? mix was a timeless classic of the sound, this year was a little more of the moment, including some stuff I hadn't played/heard in a while (ie. Rising To The Top & Don't Look Any Further) but also including a lot of more current reworks that really change up the original, instead of just adding to it. It's March, that time of year again, WMC in Miami! I guess this mix just shows a little bit of my versatility (and that I can still keep up with the kids), djing an afterparty for private school kids. It's basically a lot of hip hop and some club remixes...and unlike the school sanctioned events I normally dj for this age group where I play all radio edits, this was a house party, so warning, it's almost all explicit versions! January was my favourite house music of last year, and February is my favourite "non-house" from 2015. It includes retro reworks of Pet Shop Boys, OMD, George Michael, Janet Jackson ,Michael Jackson, Yaz, The Cure, indie / folk names like Jose Gonzalez & James Vincent McMorrow, favourites like Chet Faker, Gigamesh and Goldroom, even a little hip hop from a Tribe Called Quest and Kendrick Lamar, a little Weeknd and Disclosure... a real nice mature lounge vibe with the 2015 tracks I played regularly at dBar here in Toronto.
