    HAVE YOU EVER BEEN

“‘Lately, I’ve been torn between two schools of thought. On the one hand, I feel a deep connection with nature and believe that we were meant to live in harmony with it. But on the other hand, I wonder if it was meant as a stepping stone for our species. A foundation for us to evolve into something beyond our current comprehension.’ ‘Where are these schools you speak of?’ ‘In my mind.’ ‘Hmph..’ ‘On the first hand, it seems we’re meant to stay the course with nature. And by living harmoniously with it, we pass down only the necessities to survive to the generations that will come after us. As it has been for so many generations before us.’ ‘That sounds reasonable.’ ‘Then on the second hand, it seems that innovation and knowledge is more important. We’ve made so many leaps in the past thousand years alone, in countless fields. Seemingly unlocking so many secrets to the universe at exponential rates. I feel like we’re on the precipice of something radically life-changing for all humankind. We just have to keep going.’ ‘That sounds reasonable, too. Could it be both?’ ‘But then on my third hand, a third school of thought, I have a feeling that our whole existence is a mirage created by an unknown entity and that none of this truly matters. It doesn’t matter which school I choose, it all leads to the same place.’ ‘What place is that?’ ‘Maybe the beginning. I don’t know, maybe nowhere? What do you think?’ ‘I don’t know either. I never went to these schools.’”

    ONLY YOU

“In the near future, reality will be indistinguishable from fantasy. Everyday life will seem like science fiction. That’s why everything is grey in all the movies set in three-thousand-whatever. The lines will get so blurred that existence will just be one large homogenous blob. And eventually, we won’t care what it means to be real. Which makes me wonder if anything was real to begin with. And we just didn’t know we weren’t real. Maybe it never really mattered. And we were just dogs chasing our own tails. Snakes eating our own rattles.”

  3. 24

    A LITTLE STRANGER

“I think I’ve found a new place for my existence. A world outside the realm of possibility, somewhere further out from fantasy. In this place, the veil that numbed my senses has been lifted, the ideologies passed down to me all torn asunder. And while I thought I would exist here alone, I found comfort in that. Discovered tranquility in my solitude. But then along came a little stranger. Seemingly even more impossible, and even further out from anything I could have fantasized. And I came to the realization that she had found this place just like me. And that this world was made just for us.”

    COME RAIN OR SHINE

“If a tornado falls down on us from the heavens, we will find shelter underground until it passes. If a hurricane sweeps over us from the shores, we will find a life raft and weather the crashing waves. If killer robots march over the horizon and burn the cities down with laser beams blazing out of their eyes, we will catch one of them in a trap, reprogram its directives, and send it back in time to protect us as we burn the company that created them to the ground. No matter what storm is brought to us, we will find a way.”

  5. 22

    HALLELUJAH

“I used to wonder why things are how they are. Why we are the way that we are. And why some things aren’t more like other things. And how if they were, then everything else would be better. But I’ve come to realize that these things are exactly what they need to be, in order for everything else to be what they are. That if one thing no longer existed, then nothing else would. And that all things are one and the same. And that I am not of one thing or another thing. But rather, of all things. I am everything.”

  6. 21

    GOOD FOR YOU

“The idea of being a complete person tends to break a lot of us down more than it builds us up. It hardens us, but does not heal us. It makes us believe that being complete means being perfect. Being whole means being reliant solely on the self. But I believe that being complete means seeing all of the things about ourselves, the good parts along with the broken ones, and embracing them. Finding confidence in our weaknesses to elevate our strengths. It is seeing the complete picture of the persons that we are. And with that complete picture, we can complete a bigger one together.”

  7. 20

    ON MY MIND

“For the first time in a long time, I feel my mind is finally free. And only in this freedom have I come to understand that I was once imprisoned. A prisoner to fear and self-doubt, I poisoned myself with the spoils of this world. Somehow, by some force — whether God’s grace or universal law, I made it through. For the first time, I wouldn’t mind being here for a long time.”

  8. 19

    TU VEUX LA VÉRITÉ

“I believe the next major paradigm shift will happen when we all have a clear understanding of sound and vibration. And the effects it has on everything in our world, especially our minds and our bodies. And that all things exist because of frequencies, that we are all waves flowing endlessly within themselves. No one is singular, and nothing is meant to be commodified. If we could learn how to embrace the universal sound, I believe eternal harmony would soon follow. We just need a lot of the psychopaths to go away first, too.”

    IF YOU WERE

“I’ve always felt out of place in this world, with nowhere to belong and nothing to have as my own. My whole life I’ve been forging my own path, and in turn finding myself falling, over and over again. Making mistakes that I had no prior warning of, no one to guide me elsewhere. Nothing to protect me from the cruel wilderness. But I’ve come to realize that this world was never made for me. It was made by people just as unguided, forging something out of nothing. So I decided to make my own world. Come, take my hand. Let me show you around.”

    SCI FI FANTASY PT. 3

“‘How are you, my love? How was your day?’ ‘I’m good and it was good. Even better now. How about you?’ ‘Same, and same, definitely. What do you feel like doing?’ ‘I’m good with anything, to be honest. Come, let’s think of something.’ ‘Sounds good to me.’ ‘Anything come to mind?’ ‘What about this?’ ‘Yes, I’d love to. Let’s do it together.’”

  11. 16

    MORNING LIGHT

“In halogen flashes and neon streaks, the whole world blurs around us. Echoing laughter and buzzing electricity of the city pass through us like gentle waves of the ocean. It all seems so exhilarating, but I’ve become completely numb to these stimulations. I can’t see anything except for you. I can’t feel anything except for us.”

  12. 15

    NEW DAY

“I remember looking up at the sky all the time, but I never realized what I was seeing. I never saw the clouds drift slowly across the heavens. Constantly changing, caught in their own dance. I never saw the midday blues fade to purples and deep pinks, the sun turn to a glowing orange haze by the horizon. I never saw the birds murmur above me as they flocked into the distance. Never saw the moon materialize as if from nowhere. All of my days, I remember looking up at the sky as an unreachable destination, and never saw it as a mirror next to me. But today is a new day.”

    BASEMENT ART

“I locked myself in the art studio of my basement one day. Surrounded by large tin paint pails stacked to the ceiling and blank canvases scattered across the floor, I drew the curtains closed and let my mind wander. I peeled each pail cover off carefully, one at a time. Then, I toppled the stacks over the canvases violently. I closed my eyes as I stomped around the open space, hearing the paint slosh underneath me. I envisioned the colours mixing harmoniously as I picked the canvases up and tossed them across the room, still with my eyes closed. I heard them bang against the exposed brick walls. I poured paint over my body and became part of the artwork I was creating. I smashed the empty tin pails and broken canvases over my head to feel the artwork. I continued this for a few days, bringing my masterpiece to life. And I wish I could have told you what a masterpiece it had turned out to be. But I wouldn’t know, I never made it out of the basement.”

    DROP — THE ELECTRIC HOUR

“Thank you, thank you all. As always, I am more than grateful to be in your presence. Please, be seated. Once again, I have gathered you all here on this faithful day and at this exceptional time to remember that which many have forgotten long ago. But not us. We have remained true to the wisdom and ability so graciously passed down to us from our predecessors. The wisdom that helps us become mindful of The Separation. Though not to separate us, but rather to bring us together. And the ability to keep united through difficult and trying times. For this world has been wrought with The Separation for oh so long, causing much pain and suffering to the unknowing soul. And we remember that there have been many ways conjured up within the mind to endure it. Some find temporary success, just like The Separation. Some fail, just like The Separation will. But at this, The Electric Hour, we remember that we have been blessed with something that need not be conjured. Not created or invented within the mind. For it predates the mind, and is timeless in its existence. It needs only to be remembered. The Reunion is upon us, my friends. And we gather here, once again, to welcome it with open arms.”

    DROP — DELTA WAVE

"I try to get a good look at the pedestrians’ faces. As my eyes focus, their features begin to swirl and dance. Eyes, mouths, noses, all coalesce into one and appear to breathe together. Pale shades of brown and pink turn to neon blues and purples and greens that dribble off their chins and run down their necks like molasses. I wonder if my face is doing the same thing. I reach up and pat around my cheeks and mouth and eyes. All seems well."

    DROP — THE LAST NIGHTMARE

"The plane jolts violently and sends my cup of Clamato into the aisle, splashing ice and red all over the flight attendants as their heads crash into my arm rest and seat tray. Before I can look down to offer some assistance, the plane jolts again, harder this time. A few passengers get thrown out of their seats like rag dolls. Flashes of burning white light strobe from outside of my window as deafening screams fill the air. Suitcases and duffel bags burst out of the overhead compartments angrily and crash down upon the passengers scattered in the aisle. Somehow I’m still in my seat and unscathed, some splashes of Clamato on my pant leg. The plane jolts a third time. This time, I feel myself lift out of my seat. The white lights strobe again but it seems like they’re flashing from inside the cabin now. The screams muffle and then abruptly go silent. All I see is white. All I feel is this sensation of falling in air."

    DROP — DAYDREAMS LOVE COMPANY

"I guess what I've learned so far is that nothing is created. Nothing gets destroyed. Everything always is. And everything turns into everything else. Our past turns with the way in which we remember it. Our future turns with the way in which we guide it. Always in motion. And we either throw our heads back and enjoy the breeze that comes with it. Or get caught up in its speeding winds, blinded by the piercing of our eyes and skin tissue."
