In this solo episode, I take a look back at the 2025 NCAA field hockey season and give awards to the biggest upsets, the teams that made a jump, and who to keep an eye on next year. I also dive into some recent rule changes and a few things I think could help move the sport forward. Episode 2 - Taylor West
Today’s episode features one of the most decorated players in the history of James Madison University field hockey — Taylor West.From 2011 to 2015, Taylor was known for her dynamic movements, scoring ability, leadership, and all-around play. By the time she graduated, Taylor had tallied 56 goals and 130 points - ranking among the top scorers in JMU history. In terms of accolades, she was a multiple-time all-CAA team, CAA player of the year, and she also earned NFHCA All-American honours. But her story didn’t stop in Harrisonburg.In 2016, West realized a lifelong dream, earning a place on the United States women's national field hockey team. She went on to earn more than 80 international caps, competing on some of the sport’s biggest stages — including the FIH World League and a bronze-medal performance at the Pan American Cup.In this conversation, we dive into the mindset behind sustained excellence, the transition to international competition, and the leadership lessons forged along the way.
