Johann Pachelbel, Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt

The 11th piece from the second fascicle of manuscript Mus Ms 30439 is in other sources attributed to Pachelbel. But the version in this manuscript differs in lots of places from the Breitkopf edition, available on imslp. The main difference is that this version is more truly ‘dorian’: the b is only rarely lowered to b flat, and the c is only rarely raised to c sharp. In my performance I play more raised c’s than there are in the manuscript. In the score I indicate these with an accidental in brackets. The procedure used is again a introductory four part fugue on the first line of the choral melody. The soprano voice is then silent for several bars, after which it reenters to state the full choral melody in long notes. The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk. Grunow, Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt

Manuscript Am. 386, owned by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin contains some 20 chorale preludes by Johann Philipp Kirnberger. And one by a certain “Mademoiselle Grunow”. It’s probably not a coincidence a collection of works by Kirnberger contains one work by this Mademoiselle Grunow. But it remains a mystery who she was or what her relationship with Kirnberger was. Other than a reference to a second work by her hand I can not find anything about her. But the piece itself is simple, yet charming. The recording was done on the sample set of the Holzey organ of St. Peter and Paul in Weissenau by Prospectum. Johann Samuel Harsow, Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt

Johann Samuel Harsow (~1759 – 1792) was organist of the St. Marienkirche in Berlin. He was a pupil of Johann Philipp Kirnberger, and was during his short life acclaimed as an outstanding performer of Bach’s organ works. Harsow composed a number of chorale preludes in trio and bicinium style. I found an very early edition (around 1790) of two of them. The music is not very high quality, so I post them both at once. “Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt” is the second. The recording was done on the sample set of the Van Dam organ (1832) in Tholen by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.
