Episode 117: Udo Jürgens, Austria's Eurovision GOAT

Eurovision season wouldn't feel complete without a visit from Tobias Larsson, Eurovision fan & historian, to tell us the backstory of another ESC luminary. This time it's Udo Jürgens, the man who gave Austria their first win and sold over a hundred million records worldwide. It's a fun look at one of the most successful singers & songwriters in ESC history, and we're glad to celebrate Udo just before the contest returns to Vienna for Eurovision 2026 60 years after his win. Jeremy's mixing gin & rum, Dimitry thanks the jury, and Tobias is sticking with some Greek wine. Episode 116: Top Ten Times Four Times Two

While we're not doing as much predicting this year, you better believe we've got opinions about our favorites, so we're welcoming back pop music expert Dave Holmes of International Waters to take a look at what we're liking in 2026. Jeremy's dancing on the table, baby, Dimitry is always mindful of his Croatia history, Dave shocks us with his #1 pick, and Oscar just wants more. MaxFunDrive BoCo Preview: Cliff Richard's Heathcliff

Hey Eurovision fans: we're in the middle of the MaxFunDrive, Maximum Fun's annual fundraising drive to keep the lights on and help support our show. We've got a taste of our episode with film critic Alonso Duralde of Maximum Film watching an absolutely terrible VHS version of an arguably worse musical, Cliff Richard's Heathcliff. We didn't like it, but we did like talking about it. Take a listen to part of the ep, and if you'd like to hear the rest, click the link below and become a member! Episode 115: Music Video Recap 2026

If we're going to talk about all the music videos from Eurovision 2026, we need another opinionated Eurovision fan in the mix, so we're joined this week by ESC Ben! He's chatting with us from the UK about all our music video faves (and least faves) from the class of 2026. Jeremy has Fuego at home, Dimitry is sick to his stomach at the sight of AI fakery, Ben wants one video to Just Go, and Oscar's choreomaxxing. Casters on Casters: Sequoia Holmes, Ella McLeod, and Dimitry Pompée

It's MaxFunDrive. And here, for the first time, we give you an exclusive look (well, listen) at the craft of podcasting: presenting Casters on Casters. Three different coasts are represented in this episode. Recording from Los Angeles is Sequoia Holmes (Black People Love Paramore) on the West Coast of the U.S. Dimitry Pompée (Eurovangelists) joins the conversation from the D.C. area on the East Coast. And nearly 4000 miles east of him, is Ella McLeod (Comfort Creatures) from London. The trio share what it's like behind the scenes, how they got into podcasting, and what they all have in common. Plus, the various challenges they've encountered making their shows. Jeremy likes it when things get just a little Jesus-y, Dimitry is exposed as a Ruslana simp, and Oscar's looking for Mr. Vel. Dimitry finally got his wish granted: we're finally taking a look at Spain's very first Benidorm Fest from 2022, and wouldn't you know it? It's a doozy. Comedian and voice actor Tony Rodriguez (The Simpsons, Tiny Toons Looniversity) joins us to take a listen to the pack of songs that eventually gave us Chanel. It's nice to have the time to discuss a pretty fun show, as things will get much trickier next month! Episode 91: Inside the Eurovision Vault

Listen, we all love the Eurovision Classics: Waterloo, Love Shine A Light, etc. But sometimes these songs get a little overexposed, and that's when they need a few years to cool off in the Eurovision Vault. We take a look at a few songs that could use a rest as interval acts or medley choices, and offer up some replacements that might sound a little fresher to the ears of the discerning ESC fan. Jeremy's making a good living on the wages of love, Dimitry reveals his all-time Eurovision crush, and Oscar's shouting Hallelujah. Episode 90: Daz's Eurovision (2006 BBC Documentary)

The UK's 2006 Eurovision entry was a song called "Teenage Life," which placed 19th. But what placed far higher in our hearts is the incredible BBC3 documentary Daz's Eurovision about the man, the myth, the legend, Daz Sampson. It's a veritable Spinal Tap's worth of hilarious moments, bizarre musical connections, and at least one moment where Daz suggests he's as good a songwriter as Paul McCartney. Episode 89: Listener Postcards 2025

It's been almost a year since we devoted an episode to listener questions, so we're diving into our stack of postcards and answering questions of all kinds. We talk about Eurovision-related media, Eurovision-related SOCIAL media, and who will be the first to win out of the Iceland/Malta/San Marino trifecta of small but mighty nations. Jeremy defends Arcade but has to be true to his Soldi, Dimitry once more goes to bat as Ballad Guy, and Oscar can barely work his computer.Vote for us in the Signal Award's Listener's Choice: https://vote.signalaward.com/PublicVoting#/2025/shows/genre/musicOur How Did This Not Qualify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2DC3am05GWWrNhLrnGjVlTOur Not Good Enough for ESC, But Good Enough for Me 2025 playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3eGz94smJNXQOMNWbvjLkjThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5YLN5WtHzLj5yMl5H5ewpD Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! The dreaded second spot in the Grand Final lineup has a lot of lore surrounding it, spoken only in hushed tones by those that fear its power. But it turns out despite not producing any winners in 70 years, it hasn't been all bad for those forced to contend with the supposed "Death Slot." Episode 87: Eurovision Songwriting Camps

Norway's own pop diva Mathilde SPZ joins the Eurovangelists to tell us all about songwriting camps: retreats where aspiring and current Eurovision artists go to brainstorm new songs and produce tracks, some of which become competitors in national finals and even the Grand Final itself. It's a fascinating piece of the modern Eurovision world, so we're glad to have experienced camp participant Mathilde telling us all about it! Jeremy pushes for collaboration in all things, Dimitry can't decide whether to cry or dance, and Oscar & Mathilde trade definitions of "camp."Mathilde SPZ's performance of the Woman Show at MGP 2024: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMae5H8oMHsMathilde's playlist of songwriting camp songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/02pqO9opP7kqM2M2IOf3x3This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0NQGGvJXPhEPK2zgEp2vGx Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! Episode 84: Eurovision's Greatest Hits (2015 BBC Show)

As we approach the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, it's fun to take a look at how the ESC was viewed just 10 years ago - some songs remain as classic as ever, while some songs aren't nearly as beloved as they once were (cough_Believe_cough). But Graham Norton and Petra Mede give us a rollicking 90 minutes of ESC hits, and we ain't complaining. Jeremy finally counts himself as a denizen of the Forest, Dimitry has strong feelings about one particular winner's return, and Oscar rediscovers an early 21st century gem from France.Watch Eurovision's Greatest Hits here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ceireJeEwwVisit the archived website for the show here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150406071646/http://60th.eurovision.tv/Watch Electro Velvet's pre-show performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iCwAUVTVdMThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bSicY5EAEgPCQ3NhnB96x Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! Well, it's been quite a ride, but all good things, and even all mediocre things, must come to an end. But that's the ASC in a nutshell, so we talk ways to improve it if they ever attempt something so fool-hardy again. Episode 76: Lights, Camera, Eurovision!

You can't spell Eurovision OR television without vision, so we're taking a look at a few instances of Eurovision appearing on popular TV shows, and popular Eurovision artists appearing in TV commercials. Some showcase the contest better than others, but a universal truth is if you want to parody Eurovision, you've got to use nonsense. Jeremy hears a Who, Dimitry is a pony no more, and Oscar thinks John & Edward are just being SILLY.Father Ted is available on Peacock, Tubi & BritBox, Doctor Who is available on BBC iPlayer or Disney+, and Emily in Paris is available on Netflix.Monty Python's "World Forum": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMnx8bffbcIPif Paf Pof from The High Life: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJwsEv_OoR8/?igsh=anIweDNubGEzeW8wMichalis Rakintzis for Pringles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joCD5HPkG24Dadi Freyr for Icelandic Provisions: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3Mb71o9o1pgSpitting Image for Heineken: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imYLq_NQtaUKaarija & Mr. Lordi for DNA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux2sLPCc7b8Jedward for Registered Gas Installers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c8aZbKcjz45MIINUST for regular health checks: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1061573378348036&rdid=hGtUgVUMNoOdVNCjCleo for Media Expert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvGBHsxGzlYOur MaxFunDrive 2025 Themed Playlists:Top of the Ethnobops https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2XgmR5xfepPxChKq6H5xYL?si=dfc9dfa482bd44c9The Perfect EuroClub Setlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4LuAqHVI9uW1vfVwXXqlxS?si=d3d73b02e7b34484How Did This Not Qualify?! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2DC3am05GWWrNhLrnGjVlT?si=ad732c7bbdd04915This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3R054zOowd6Oi6dZ9iaTK8 Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! Episode 75: Congratulations - 50 Years of the ESC

Eurovision threw itself a 50th birthday party, and it's now the 20th anniversary of that party! Don't overthink it: just enjoy our discussion of what the Contest was all about back in 2005 and who reigns supreme as the greatest ESC song of all time. Jeremy's talking 'bout his generations, Dimitry demands respect for Everybody, and Oscar's a little over the whole Napoleon thing.Watch Congratulations here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D-kvTfbMowThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5TaSUZsdr0pPRd84B61eKb Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! Episode 74: How Did This Not Qualify?

In honor of the unjust non-qualification of Red Sebastian at Semi-Final 1 this year, we're taking a look back at some of the songs that make us say, "How did this not qualify?" We get into a little Eurovision history as well as highlighting songs that if not for some twist of fate, might have made it to the big show. Jeremy starts to worry he might have aged out of catsuits, Dimitry reps for his boys who could use some practice, and Oscar thinks that vampires are, in fact, alive.Vote in the Listener Playlist poll: https://forms.gle/h4PZ9u15yaLsGBBp8Watch these performances on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2uiE85oWuo&list=PLd2EbKTi9fyXtvuO83oHkg2BhfYLi466AThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6DcppmQijCuENFEIN9fKLK Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive! Episode 71: Take Me Back to Basel

We're still recovering from the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, but we made a lot of great memories in Basel! So many that we thought the city itself deserved its own episode, so here it is: all of the great places and people we saw or met in the nexus of France, Germany and Switzerland. Jeremy can't get enough breakfast panna cotta, Dimitry is healed by soup & risotto, and Oscar's eyes are one of a kind.Vote in the listener playlist survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf1jGtsw5UUO4anpSDesyZeMUiLoe6zlMNQZUm4ibQ3mJMQBQ/viewformThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4QYk7cZ6P4g8hbHiORiUXr?si=b4b659d7916d4b99 Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's MaxFunDrive!
