While skilled workers meticulously rolled world-class cigars by hand, one person sat high above the factory floor on a wooden podium, reading aloud. Not just headlines. Not just instructions. But Shakespeare. Victor Hugo. Great novels. Big ideas. The Count of Monte Cristo! Stories that carried people beyond repetitive work and into imagination, philosophy, and hope. The Lector became the heartbeat of the factory — transforming long, demanding days into something richer: a shared education, a shared inner life, a shared sense of dignity. Because the cue is the first indication that we're close to a reward, it naturally leads to a craving. This is interesting because it happens so fast. You would think you feel a craving first and then seek out the reward. But there's always something that triggers that craving. The key is to slow down and find what the cue is - what is triggering your craving? Every craving is linked to a desire to change your internal state. James Clear says in his book, for example: "You do not crave smoking a cigarette, you crave the feeling of relief it provides." Or another example: "You do not want to turn on the television, you want to be entertained." Everyone is different. Being self-aware of your thoughts, feelings and emotions will help you figure out how to break the habit that is not serving you and create a new one that will set you up for success.
