With both the Sydney Swans and the Melbourne Demons sitting in the top 4 this clashed promised plenty. It certainly lived up to the hype with both teams cracking the 100 and scoring freely to get the highlight reel ticking over.

The Deed hosted the GWS Giants in round 1 to kick off the season proper. On a rainy day, the worst of the weatherhad relented prior to the bounce. Those in attendance were treated to a great game that went down to just about the final play of the day.So, what's the story?Where was the game won and lost?Who was the MVP and who put in an underrated performance?

John here for a quick rundown of Round 23 and a look ahead to the final round of the season. What do the finals in 2024 look like?

A special episode of Footy Time this week where John and Dan go through the ladder as it stands. Who is over-achieving, who is under-achieving and how far can these teams go in 2024?

Daniel is joined by Lucas D'Costa as we go back all the way to 2013 to see if a curse could be broken. In the 2013 preliminary final it was a clash of the titans as the Hawthorn Hawks took on the Geelong Cats. The Cats had defeated the Hawks 11 straight times following the Hawks upset win in the 2008 Grand Final. As the Cats winning streak grew it was labelled the “Kennett Curse”, as after the 2008 Grand Final Jeff Kennett (former Victorian Premier & Hawks president) had come out and said that Geelong lacked the mental fortitude to get it done against Hawthorn, when it really mattered. The Cats of course took exception to this and vowed to never lose to the Hawks again. Now the Kennett Curse would be put to the ultimate test as the Hawks looked to cement their place in history with another premiership cup (but first they’d have to get to the Grand Final). What we got was one of the great finals of all time! Tune in to see how it played out.

On a Sunday afternoon, the Melbourne Demons hosted the West Coast Eagles for the first time in over a decade. Melbourne desperately needed the win to keep their top 8 hopes alive. On the Eagles side of things, the drums were beating and it looked like premiership coach Adam Simpsons time could be coming to an end. Tune in to see how it played out!

On a Friday night the Melbourne Demons headed to the Gabba as heavy underdogs to face the Brisbane Lions. The Lions have been putting on huge scores of late and were expected to account for a middling Demons outfit. What we got was anything but the expected as Melbourne ramped up the pressure and intensity, going on a blistering 8 goal 2nd quarter run. How did the Lions respond? Tune in to find out!

On a Saturday night at the G, the Melbourne Demons and the North Melbourne Kangaroos renewed an old rivalry that was at its best in the late 90s and early 2000s. On this occasion it pitted the improving kangas (sitting 18th on the ladder) against a Melbourne side who's been struggling of late. The game ebbed and flowed and ended with a heart stopping finish. What more could you want from a game of footy? Be sure to tune in!
