At Frey Vineyards, we pride ourselves on being a no sulfites added winery, making only wines that are produced without any chemicals added. A lot of people don’t understand what sulfites are, why they are used in winemaking, and why we would choose not to use them. In this episode of Frey Vines, Molly Frey sat down with Eliza Frey to discuss all things sulfite. Over the years, as the business got established, people wanted more availability and selection in the organic and non-sulfited realm.When Frey opened our winery doors 45 years ago, we had no idea what a world of organic wine we would create. Being the first organic winery meant that we spent a lot of time in the early years educating and advocating for Organic wine’s place at the table. As the popularity for organics grew, we helped create the organic wine category in the industry, and we significantly expanded our wine offerings. We have held fast to our uncompromising commitment to creating the highest quality wines available for you to enjoy. As pioneers in Organic & Biodynamic wine, we created this podcast because we wanted to share our family’s process of building something special here in Mendocino County, the greenest American Viticultural Area (or AVA for short) in California. Wine Enthusiast declared Mendocino the AVA of the year for 2024 largely because of the wonderful, sustainably produced, and award-winning wines coming out of this beautiful region of Northern California.  With a 1/3 of California’s total organic grape production growing in this AVA, we believe that this distinction is in no small part due to the organic pioneering efforts of the Frey family.
