    8. Shargh-e Banafsheh (East of Violet)

    Mandanipour was born in Shiraz in 1956. His first story collection was published in 1989. He has several short story collections and novels. His storytelling technique and style is phenomenal in modern persian literature. Shargh-e Banafsheh (east of violet) is a love story happening in modern Shiraz. The writer skillfully narrates the story from Hafez's spirit point of view. "Hafez" was the famous Persian poet of 14 century who lived in Shiraz.     7. Amir Arsalan-e Namdar

    Amir Arsalan-e Namdar is one of the most famous Persian stories created and narrated by Naser ad-Din Shah's storyteller Mirza Mohammad Ali Naqib ul-Mamalek. However it was Fakhr ud-Doleh the princess who transcribed and preserved this story secretly. The story has been very popular during the last centruy, but it was only in 1961 that Mohammad Dja`far Mahdjoub edited and presented a definitive text, far superior to the simpler versions that were available until then. The story is fabulous in terms of legendary images, the number and variety of charachters. The story has been translated to German but not to any other european languages. The first chapter is presented as a sample this week.
