"The Checkup That Saved My Life: A Prostate Cancer Survivor's Story"
The Checkup That Saved My Life: A Prostate Cancer Survivor’s Story In this powerful episode of Go Ask A Nurse, host AnnaMarie, RN-MSN, sits down with Lincoln, Nebraska native, motivational speaker, and cancer survivor Aaron Davis to discuss his personal journey through prostate cancer—from the first warning signs to diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately remission. Aaron shares how a routine health concern turned into a life-changing moment that many men face but few openly talk about. Through honesty, humor, and resilience, he explains how maintaining a positive mindset and strong attitude helped him navigate one of the most challenging seasons of his life. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men, yet many delay screenings or ignore symptoms due to fear, stigma, or lack of awareness. In this episode, we break down why early detection matters, what men should watch for, and how a simple blood test could save a life. Together, AnnaMarie and Aaron discuss: • The early symptoms and warning signs of prostate cancer • The importance of PSA screenings and regular check-ups • What it feels like to hear the words “You have cancer” • The emotional and mental side of a cancer diagnosis • Treatment, recovery, and life after remission • Why men must take ownership of their health • How attitude, faith, and support systems can impact healing Aaron’s mission today is simple: encourage men to take their health seriously and not wait until it’s too late. His story is not just about cancer—it’s about courage, perspective, and the power of a positive attitude. Whether you are a man approaching screening age, someone supporting a loved one through cancer, or simply looking to learn more about men’s health, this episode offers insight, inspiration, and practical information that could help save lives. At Go Ask A Nurse, we believe education empowers patients and families to make informed health decisions. Because when it comes to your health — asking questions can save your life.

Episode 6: Precision, Compassion, and the Fight Against Cancer" Guest: Dr. John Cuaron
"Dr. Cuaron is a radiation oncologist who cares for people with gastrointestinal, breast, brain, spinal tumors, and rectal cancer. He sees patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Commack on Long Island in New York. He also serves as the Lead Service Chief of the regional network at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Dr. Cuaron has the privilege of overseeing the regional network operations and working to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care at every MSK location. Treating cancer is a team effort —He states, " I never work in a vacuum. I partner with my colleagues in medical and surgical oncology, radiology, and pathology to make a diagnosis and develop a personalized treatment plan for each patient. Most patients are curious about who is on their care team, how we work together, and what our treatment strategy will be." During initial consultations and subsequent visits, his team works to make sure that patients are well informed of all these aspects of their care. It is very empowering for people to see the blueprint and be a part of the team. Patients also want to know about radiation therapy — what it is, how it works, and what it will feel like. The radiation we use to treat cancer is very different and much safer than what people may have seen or heard about in popular culture. A large part of his initial consultation with patients outlines the specifics of radiation therapy. It allows them to become familiar with treatment and side effects, so they know what to expect before treatment starts. "Like many families, mine has been impacted by cancer. My personal experiences lead me to understand that doctor-patient relationships are critical to providing excellent care for patients. To that end, I hope my patients feel informed and confident about their care. I also hope they feel they have a guide they can turn to during a time that can be confusing, frustrating, and frightening."
