    Brian Wilson & Lance Martin

Send us Fan MailWho died this month? A ton of people, apparently! Our hosts say goodbye to Brian Wilson, Dave Shapiro, Jonathon Joss, George Wendt, and Anne Burrell as they compare notes on how these public figures have touched their lives. Then, guest Adam joins the pod to candidly share his experience coping with the death of his brother, Lance (yes, THAT Lance from The Bon Ton), at the age of 19. Grief almost NEVER looks how we expect it to, and Adam beautifully highlights the intense feelings of numbness that can confuse us (and even cause us to “fake it”) when we’re navigating the murky waters of bereavement. Negative coping skills are an easy distraction, but the real healing comes from turning inward and facing your grief – and Adam is a prime example of finding that out for yourself. This week we’re talking the “82 Club,” pay-phones, and enjoying the finer things in life. Then, future chemist and guest Hunter joins The Pod crew to tell a few hilarious stories about his dad Bert, who died from lung cancer over eight years ago, when Hunter was only 10. Hunter’s resilience, maturity, and positive outlook is a great reminder that loss in childhood does not mean someone is broken – rather, it can be where their greatest strengths come from. Oh, and you simply MUST hear the “pin story” on this episode. Subscribe to Guess Who Died?! today and find out. . .who died!Guess Who Died is an Olivia’s House Production.

  11. 5

    Val Kilmer & Bob Harmon

Then, our hosts welcome guest Kate Harmon and her “Bob shirt” to the pod. Kate’s dad Bob (of the aforementioned shirt) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 15 years ago, which kickstarted their family into teaming up with the Michael J. Fox foundation and helping to find a cure. From flying up and down the east coast, to taking charge and making semi-threatening phone calls, Kate has been “on” since her dad’s diagnosis, riding the adrenaline of anticipatory grief. By being given the “gift of goodbye,” Kate found ways to cope throughout her dad’s illness – skills that are still serving her since his death six months ago. But let’s not forget that a big part of healing is finding time to slow down, turn inward, and face your pain. Go Team Fox!This week we have a brand-new text thread, we talk about post-mortem CGI, the comorbidity of Parkinson’s and dementia, embracing the awkward, the science behind smelling Parkinson’s, and how the glitter of grief can stay on our pants forever. Then, hosts Jeff, Julia, and producer K.C. welcome guest Paige to talk about her own experience with losing her mom at the age of nine. Now in her 20’s, Paige has navigated most of her life with grief by her side, using different therapies (shoutout to art therapy!) and coping skills along the way. Find out what it was like for Paige to live in a blended family while also keeping her mom’s memory alive at every turn, and let it inspire you to connect in new and unique ways to those who aren’t with us anymore. This week we’re talking about saving text messages, saying “Night Night” instead of goodbye, and chocolate milk on garlic bread (don’t knock it ‘til you try it!). We reference the book “Dead Mom’s Club” by Kate Spencer, and toast to our loved ones at the end of each episode in reference to a story that Casey Wilson tells in her book, “The Wreckage of my Presence.” Subscribe to Guess Who Died?! today and find out. . .who died! Guess Who Died is an Olivia’s House Production.

And in the face of this tragedy, with another teenager at home and the uncertainty of how to move forward, Connie found healing. Today we’re talking mother’s intuition, dream visits, the presence of butterflies, Jimmy Carter’s connection to Hospice care, how loss can trigger childhood memories, and so much more!
