We welcome Berlin based Iron Curtis to the series this week with a deep dive of a mix that takes a languid trip through all of his eclectic styles and influences. As a DJ, he is as inspired and versatile as he is a producer, skilfully taking the dancefloor into the deep and diverse corners of modern dance music. We were big fans of his Upstream Colour album last year and we're already looking forward to another round of remixes for that coming soon. He's also been busy in the studio with Session Victim and has a stack of releases already lining up for the likes of Office Recordings and Uncanny Valley. On another tip he's got a side project called Moon – a collaboration with Johannes Albert from Frank Music, where the two friends exhibit their love for classic Electro and stripped down Techno. The mystery man who runs Toy Tonics, who now reveals that Kapote & Munk are in fact the same person. Both are aliases of Mathias Modica, the Italian/German music nerd, DJ, keyboard wizard, producer and clever clogs behind both Toy Tonics and GOMMA. Growing up in a family where D.Y.A was surrounded by all kinds of different music led to the mindset of appreciating each genre as equally important and eventually got him to draw inspiration from all kinds of music. As an university educated jazz drummer the concept of improvisation and aspiration for that one special musical moment is surely no secret to D.Y.A. While being Berlin based and a founding member of „SOLIDE“, a label and collective he runs along with fellow producers Kalyma and MYNY, translating these rather complex concepts from jazz into house music, wether we are talking about production or DJ Sets, has been one of D.Y.A ́s main goals. *Cue Darts commentator style 180!* Sliding into the weekend with this bumper mix from Phonk D, here is a bit of info if you ain't all up in that knowledge about the Disco Don... In the early 90s electronic music grabbed hold of Phonk D. After many nights at clubs in Frankfurt, hundreds of kilograms of collected vinyls, countless DJ-gigs and a remarkable journey into Hip Hop as a producer, the Darmstadt resident founded his label Footjob in 2014. The Footjob sound is somewhere between deep, disco and classic house and finds the approval of well-known scene-heads. Following various releases on Footjob, Phonk D also appears on labels like Salsoul, Glitterbox, Nite Grooves, NDYD, Poetry in Motion, Sucio and EFTCM. Kemback is a Berlin based producer whose music is rooted in House and Techno but often treads into the weird and wonderful worlds of Jazz, Soul, Folk, and Blues. The Italians are coming... and they are armed to the teeth with editz and disco bangers. The Dj duo behind the acclaimed weekly Milan party Rollover and the Balearic-centric Anything Goes label stop in to take control of this week's guest mix, and it doesn't disappoint. Founders and resident DJs of the popular namesake party in Milan. The duo began their career playing at small clubs and private parties linked to the fashion scene, near and along the hip canal area of Milan. From word-of-mouth amongst those in the know, their parties gained popularity fast, and in the meantime the duo’s music also evolved, creating a unique disco/house mix with roots firmly in ‘70s funk, new wave and Afrobeat. Somethin' Sanctified are long time collaborators Simon Mills (One half of electronic duo Bent) and Joel Hood (International Feel). They met when Simon was drafted in to produce Joel's EP on Mark Barrott’s legendary ‘International Feel’ label. A year on, whilst Joel was providing vocals for Simon's solo album "Harmonic Jigsaws Vol 1" of last year, the pair discovered their mutual love for the more atmospheric side of Disco and House, and Sanctified was born. Both have drawn heavily from nearly 20 years of playing out in a spectrum of venues, from Fabric and Renaissance through to more intimate and eclectic venues such as Pikes hotel, Ibiza. Their debut track "Direct Sunlight" was recently released on Citizens of Vice, whilst also providing two remixes: for Yarni - "It Takes Time" and Ivan Fabra - "Cosmic Sunset". Making some serious lo-fi waves currently is Aussie label, recently re-located to Berlin @nerangrecordings, run by the lovely @djwhiprsnipr. We've premiered some great stuff off the label already so we thought, like we always do, "Hey man, wanna do a guestmix for us?!", and the bossman kindly obliged us after getting settled in wonderful Berlin. Originally from Detroit, born and raised, this Atlanta transplant, has been a DJ since his youth. From backyard and basement parties as a youngster, to the small club scene of metro Detroit, Reggie Dokes eventually became a sought after DJ in Mo-Town. Fast forwarding to 2001 he created his label Psychostasia Recordings, which after a period of hibernation has been reinvigorated in 2017... Having released on heavyweight labels such as Clone, Transmat, Royal Oak and We Play House, Reggie's ear for a soulful flavour of US house is finely tuned. His mix here is no exception.
