The Paradox of the Human Condition

The Paradox of the Human Condition Episode Summary: In this thought-provoking episode of 'The Stories We Tell Ourselves,' we delve deep into the enigmatic journey that is human existence—where the very essence of our vulnerabilities and strengths are put under the microscope. Our exploration begins from the innocence of infancy, a time when love and protection seem to shield us from the looming complexities of life. Yet, it is precisely within these early moments of nurturing that the groundwork is laid for the perplexing dichotomies that we all must face. Throughout the podcast, we contemplate the poignant irony that what brings us the purest joy—love, contentment, and fulfillment—is also what renders us susceptible to the sharpest of pains: loss, grief, and disillusionment. Our innate quest for happiness is depicted as a pursuit of a mythical leprechaun, a tantalizing chase for contentment that is perpetually just out of reach. Listeners are guided through the intricate dance of positivity, a concept often championed as the panacea for life's ills. But reality bears a far more complicated landscape, with the journey to positivity riddled with obstacles, teaching us that disappointment can often feel like the only constant. The metaphoric imagery of being leaves in the unforgiving storm of existence brings to life the sense of helplessness that can arise in the face of life's unpredictable nature. 'The Paradox of the Human Condition' does not merely expose the unpredictable and often cruel aspects of life but also sets the stage for an introspective dialogue. It asks the pertinent, timeless questions about the nature of contentment and the dynamics of human resilience in the face of an indifferent universe. This episode is an invitation to contemplate the great paradoxes of life and to find meaning within them, providing a compass through the tumultuous terrain of human emotion and fate.

    Why Iran's Revolution Matters | Ep. 55

In this episode of Habits of the Few, Mo Naboulsi dives into the history and significance of the Iranian Revolution. With a focus on the habits of the few, Mo explores what made the Iranian people rise up against their government and how this event has shaped the modern world. Listen as we discuss the motivations of the Iranian Revolution and how it has influenced the world today. From geopolitics to human rights, this episode is packed with information that will help you understand the significance of Iran's Revolution. Don't miss it!  In the aftermath of a hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi's intensified efforts to enforce Iran’s Islamic laws, even more protests have taken place, this time in the streets of Tehran. The issue at hand is one that has been simmering for decades, but previous reformist leaders’  promises to make changes have done nothing to stop it: women are tired of being subjugated by religious law.  In Iran, the most fundamental questions about what makes a society work continue to be debated. While core human rights are being violated, many Iranians want to see change to their government's Islamic policies.  --- The Islamic Republic of Iran is a country in Western Asia that is governed by a theocratic Islamic republic. The government is based on the principles of the 1979 revolution, which overthrew the previous monarchy and established an Islamic republic. The supreme leader of Iran is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who holds ultimate political and religious authority in the country. The President of Iran is responsible for the administration of the country and is elected by the people. The legal system in Iran is based on Islamic law, also known as Shariah law, which is derived from the teachings of the Qur'an and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad. The constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran states that all laws and regulations must be consistent with Islamic principles. The government of Iran is known for its strict adherence to Islamic principles and its strict control over many aspects of society, including the media, education, and personal behavior. The government has been criticized by some for its human rights record, including its treatment of women, minorities, and political dissidents.  However, it is supported by many others, who view it as a guardian of the country's Islamic identity and values. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

How to Rewrite Your Story - Alex Ikonn | Ep. 53

In this podcast interview, I talk to angel investor and co-founder of intelligentchange Alex Ikonn about gratitude, journaling, taking action, dreaming and creating, adversity, success and happiness. I first met Alex in October 2018 at a [conference name] event where he was the keynote speaker. We immediately connected over our shared love of journaling and took a photo together after the event. A few months later, he contacted me about being interviewed for his podcast. The episode is now live! We talk about all sorts of things in this episode including: how journaling helped him during a dark time in his life; why he started writing gratitude lists when he was 15 years old; how journaling can help you grow as an entrepreneur; what it means to dream big; why you should always take action on your ideas; how adversity can sometimes lead to success (and vice versa); how important it is to be grateful for what you have in life; what success really means (hint: it's not money or fame...); why happiness isn't always enough (and what will make you truly happy); what family means to him. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

How to do it all - John Malott | Ep. 52

In this episode, we talk about the concept of humility, and why it's an important trait for entrepreneurs. I think when you're building a business, if you are going to grow big and if you are going to do something that is actually going to be meaningful in the world, then you need to have a huge ego to convince people and really capture people's imaginations and your own imagination.  But once things go wrong, what's amazing is that the bigger you are in your success, the quicker the comeback down. And so the true purpose in entrepreneurship is not how quickly you climb the mountain or how high you go; it's how strong you come back up after something has gone wrong. Learning that nuance between ego and humility, I think, is truly what separates amateur entrepreneurs from professionals. The reality is that we're all afraid to fail. For some reason, in our society, failure is seen as a bad thing. Success comes with so much praise, but failure? So much criticism. I get it. I was once afraid of failing just as much as anyone else. But here's the deal: when you've failed enough times, you start to realize that there's nothing special about failure. It's not the end of the world. It doesn't mean that you are a terrible person. It means that you have made a mistake. And the more you do it, the better at recognizing those mistakes and changing course before it's too late. This isn't just my opinion: there is a science behind this. Research shows that fear of failure keeps us from going as far or as fast as we're capable...and until we can accept failure and use it to our advantage, it will hold us back from bigger success! Food Forest - Jim Gale | Ep. 50

Food forests integrate and draw from the disciplines of  permaculture, regenerative agriculture, ecology, biology, and other  natural sciences. Together, these disciplines create a living set of  tools and practices that can help us engage with nature and our food  production in a meaningful way. A diverse community of life can  grow in a small space, making food forests especially suitable for urban  and suburban environments. Iran 2022 - The Daily Lioness | Ep. 48

Iranian security forces have killed at least 326 people since nationwide protests erupted two months ago, the Norway-based Iran Human Rights NGO (IHRNGO) group has claimed. That figure includes 43 children and 25 women, the group said in an update to its death toll on Saturday – saying that its published number represented an “absolute minimum.” Leading Iranian actor Taraneh Alidoosti posted a picture of herself on Instagram without the mandatory hijab to show support for ongoing anti-government protests that kicked off in Iran nearly two months ago. Iranian lawmakers have urged the country’s judiciary to “show no leniency” to protesters in a letter cited by state-run Press TV on Sunday, as thousands of people continue to rally on the streets despite the threat of arrest. Two British-Iranian journalists working in the United Kingdom have been warned by police of a “credible” plot by Iran to kill them, according to their employer, London-based news channel Iran International. Thousands of Iranians protested in the restive south-east to mark a 30 September crackdown by security forces known as “Bloody Friday” as the country’s rulers faced persistent nationwide unrest. To the murderous regime that oppresses Iran, hear this: at home or abroad, we will never surrender Iranian leaders resist growing demands for referendum on constitution British-Iranian journalists in UK warned of death threats from Iran The list goes on and on, and will continue to do so. How to get out of a bad mood | Shorts

We've all been there: something annoying or frustrating happens and as a result we spend the rest of the day in a foul mood. And the additionally frustrating thing is, someone can often know they’re in a bad mood, but be unable to snap out of it. The next time you get into a funk, don't just wait for the dark cloud to lift. There are steps you can take to improve your mood, and the first is to figure out what’s causing it. You alone control your emotions – and that means you control how to improve your mood or when to give in to a bad one. Your mood is an emotion, which means it’s a choice – and just like any other choice, you can learn how to break out of a bad mood and choose positivity over negativity. Getting out of a bad mood isn’t always easy, especially if we feel that we’ve been wronged or disrespected, but with these six tips, it can be done. 1. Change your state Changing your physiology is the fastest way to create a breakthrough in any area of life. Take a deep breath and relax tense muscles. Throw your shoulders back. Adopt a power pose. Smile at yourself in the mirror. Get your heart going with some exercise you enjoy, which is proven to reduce stress. You’ll trick your brain into getting out of a bad mood. 2. Change your focus Where focus goes, energy flows – and if you focus on the negative, that’s what you’ll feel. To quickly discover how to get out of a bad mood, focus on what you want to feel, rather than what you’re currently feeling. To help change your focus, put on your favorite song and dance around. Watch a funny video or feed your mind with inspiring stories or quotes. Music can physically transform your brain, and humor changes your physiology. Smiling, even when you don’t want to, can actually convince you that you have something to smile about. 3. Be grateful Want to know how to improve your mood? Practice gratitude. “Trade your expectations for appreciation and the world changes instantly,” Tony likes to say. When you choose to focus on the positive, you’re not only able to improve your mood at the moment – you’ll notice that you begin attracting more positivity, thanks to the law of attraction. 4. Use visualization Many top athletes and business people use visualization as a powerful way to manifest their goals – including learning how to get out of a bad mood. Visualization is a way to create absolute certainty within your brain and can help you shift your mood by reminding you what matters: your long-term goals, your innermost values and your hunger for an extraordinary life. 5. Meditate The benefits of meditation include reduced stress, better focus and emotional regulation – all of which can help you better unlock how to get out of a bad mood. Think you don’t have time to meditate? It doesn’t take long to see these benefits. A 10-minute priming routine is all it takes to refocus your brain. You can also incorporate 15 minutes of mindfulness meditation in your daily routine. 6. Get support Friends and family are invaluable. If you need a pick-me-up, call a loved one for support. They can help you talk through the problem and refocus on solutions. Strong social relationships can help you be happy in the long-term as well, so taking the time to nurture these relationships is always a good idea. Learning how to break out of a bad mood on demand will help you make better decisions, communicate more effectively, and ultimately crush your obstacles and achieve your goals. You’ll be able to leave emotional baggage behind and focus on what you can control: your beliefs, your mood and your behavior. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

John Cerasani - Overcoming Financial Obstacles | Ep. 43

"If you can focus on being around people you like, genuine interest happens rather easily." John Cerasani’s story is about a self-made man who has found  enormous success with multiple business endeavors. The title of the  podcast is a nod to a pivotal point in his journey where he left  corporate America to work for himself. By putting himself on top of the  Org Chart, he was able to not only reap the benefits of increased pay;  but also build equity for himself… Not for others. The podcast promises  to discuss various lessons he learned along the way, and have an extreme  financial focus. All while encouraging listeners to elevate their game  and grow. John built an insurance company from his kitchen table  after taking the leap and quitting his job at Arthur J. Gallagher. He  was in his late 20’s and also found himself honored with 40 under 40  accolades shortly thereafter. Not even 10 years later, he sold that  company into Private Equity for an undisclosed multiple. This building  of wealth put him in a position to help entrepreneurs with not only  capital infusion, but also business advisement and expertise. My ability  to formulate a vision, create a strategy, and plan an execution, enables  me to guide individuals and organizations to maximize their potential  and exceed expectations. From launching robust careers for various  authors and speakers, to turning around multiple underperforming  companies, to building revenue models and strategic partnerships for  non-profits, Paredigm Enterprises has created success for many and has  helped to make the world a better place. My cumulative experience  brought me to TIGER 21 in 2013, where I was recruited to lead the  high-net-worth organization’s peer network in Texas and Puerto Rico. I  leveraged my professional expertise and the collective intelligence of  50 TIGER 21 members to improve their investment acumen, business  decisions, and family dynamics. Following  my time at TIGER 21, I now serve as CEO of Gobundance, a peer-to-peer  mastermind organization of >800 individuals.  In tandem with  Gobundance, I am the Founding Parter of R360, leading groups of  sophisticated investors, philanthropists, and intellectuals. Krystal Poliquin & Coach Eric - The REAL Charles Poliquin | Ep. 41

THE GREATEST STRENGTH COACH OF ALL TIME!  Charles Poliquin was one of the most iconic strength and conditioning  coaches of all time. He was the master behind every known Olympic  athlete and coach. Unfortunately, he passed away on 27th September, 2018  because of a sudden heart attack. If you are into strength and  conditioning or even weight training in general, here is a little about  him that you must know.   For those new to the Iron Game, Poliquin coached Olympians in two dozen  sports and hundreds of elite athletes in other sports. In track and  field, he worked with 2004 gold medal winners Dwight Phillips (long  jump) and Adam Nelson (shot put), and in 1999 worked with Jamaican  hurdler Michelle Freeman, an Olympian who now coaches at the University  of Virginia. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. As a strength coach,  Poliquin “talked the walk” and, spouting 19+ inch bone-crushing pythons  for arms, “walked the talk!”   Aside from that Charles was a father to Krystal, who is a remarkable  young woman who has been kind enough to allow me the opportunity to have  this conversation you are seeing today about growing up with Charles  Poliquin as your dad! I never had the chance to meet him in person,  however I have followed his teachings, in and out of the gym for many  many years. This podcast episode was near and dear to me personally and really was  honored to have this opportunity. Thank you again Krystal & Coach  Eric for connecting us together and making this happen!  I hope you enjoy it and if you are interested in learning more about  strength training, weight loss, nutrition, or just overall health &  well-being I will add the links below.    LINKS:   https://strengthsenseiinc.com/  https://strengthsenseiinc.com/dojo-2021/  https://dojo.strengthsenseiinc.com/books-podcasts/  https://strengthsenseiinc.ac-page.com/freeebook?test=true  https://strengthsenseiinc.com/articles/  https://strengthsenseiinc.com/reviews/    BOOKS:   • The Poliquin Principles    • Arm Size And Strength   • Ask Coach Poliquin (Volumes I and II), and others     📱 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘 & 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗢 '𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙃𝘼𝘽𝙄𝙏𝙎 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙁𝙀𝙒'    🎙️ Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3qM9NOe  🎤Apple: https://apple.co/3oy5AuR  ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━   𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗘: https://www.patreon.com/Monaboulsi   𝗣𝗢𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗘: https://rebrand.ly/habitsofthefew   ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━   🡇 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 🡇   𝙒𝙚𝙗𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚 - https://habitsofthefew.com/  𝙏𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 - https://twitter.com/MoNaboulsi  𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 -  https://www.instagram.com/realmonaboulsi  𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 - https://www.facebook.com/monaboulsi  𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 - https://t.me/monaboulsi     #monaboulsi #habitsofthefew #podcast #charlespoliquin #strengthsensei --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

    Jesse Bradley | Ep.31

At age three, I told my parents that I wanted to be a professional athlete. My  family is like Baskin Robbins 31 flavors spiritually, and it was during  an Introduction to World Religion class at an Ivy League school that I  started to consider the historical evidence that led to my new beliefs.  There's an authentic daily joy in my life that is far greater than  anything I imagined, and I am energized by connecting with people from  all cultures and nations. My  parents divorced when I was 7, and I became even more focused on  academics and athletics during my teenage years. After graduating from  Dartmouth College with a degree in Psychology, I was living out my  childhood dream as a soccer goalkeeper. In Africa, I took a prescribed  medication to prevent malaria, and it built up toxic levels in my  system. I was fighting for my life for a year, and it took ten years to  recover. During this time, my life was transformed in the deepest ways:  identity, faith, mindset, habits, career, and relationships. The  greatest blessings and growth in life can emerge from the worst  situations. This is the grace of God, and the hope I want to spread. The  pain in my journey has fueled a purpose in my heart to see more people  experience an abundant life. After denying God's existence throughout my  childhood, I never anticipated deciding to follow Jesus. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

How to Leave an Impact - Mark Charlton | Ep. 30

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Mark grew up working on  fishing boats as a third generation commercial fisherman. There he  learned that hard work, dedication, pride, and integrity are a winning  combination in any business.  After attending Oregon State University,  where he studied Business and Economics, he developed a passion for  helping others.  These passions eventually led him to the Mortgage Industry where he has  the ability and privilege to help others on a daily basis.  Mark takes  pride in working hard, paying attention to detail, and striving to give  the greatest experience possible to his clients. He uses an investors  approach to the mortgage industry; helping clients create a plan, not  only to accomplish their dreams of home ownership, but to move them  towards financial freedom.  Mark is living his purpose by creating impact in this world one man and one woman at a time! He's been coaching & mentoring all walks of life all the while consistently investing in himself to become the best version he possibly can.   I personally attribute majority of my success to Mark as he has helped me, and guided me towards a path I could not have seen myself, so please I urge you to listen to his journey and hope you take away at least one of the dozens of nuggets he imparts onto us during this interview.   📱 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘 & 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗢 '𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙃𝘼𝘽𝙄𝙏𝙎 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙁𝙀𝙒'    🎙️ Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3qM9NOe  🎤Apple: https://apple.co/3oy5AuR     𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗘: https://www.patreon.com/Monaboulsi   𝗣𝗢𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗘: https://rebrand.ly/habitsofthefew   🔻𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟🔻    𝙒𝙚𝙗𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚 - 𝙝𝙩𝙩𝙥𝙨://𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙬.𝙘𝙤𝙢  𝙏𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 - 𝙝𝙩𝙩𝙥𝙨://𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧.𝙘𝙤𝙢/𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙞  𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 -  𝙝𝙩𝙩𝙥𝙨://𝙬𝙬𝙬.𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢.𝙘𝙤𝙢/𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙞  𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 - 𝙝𝙩𝙩𝙥𝙨://𝙬𝙬𝙬.𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠.𝙘𝙤𝙢/𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙞  𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 - 𝙝𝙩𝙩𝙥𝙨://𝙩.𝙢𝙚/𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙞   #markcharlton #visiongroup #monaboulsi #podcast #habitsofthefew --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

Eric Post | The year of 2020 Ep. 29

This documentary is an exploration of the strengths and fallibility of humanity through the lens of the current racial, social and political divides in the United States. With a mix of dynamic on-the-ground footage and raw authentic interviews, our project brings together perspectives that seldom reach outside their own echo chambers, shedding light on why we are so divided and why we’re struggling to understand each other through these times. The Backstory The year of 2020 has brought a myriad of struggles. Racial tensions have spurred the longest consecutive wave of protests in US history, political polarization is at an all time high, and all of this is occurring in the wake of a global pandemic. Like many, we were initially drawn to the streets in the wave of palpable outrage that swept the nation after the death of George Floyd. What began as a documentation of the subsequent protests, has unfolded into a greater search for meaning across racial, social and political lines as we began to search for answers to questions such as: How did we get here? We’ve seen these issues before, so what is different this time? If we all feel so morally right, how do we begin to communicate with one another? What happens if we don’t?  Our quest to answer these questions has led to expansive exploration and meaningful discovery. Our Journey We have filmed on the ground for over 150 days of Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, amidst clouds of tear gas and other less-lethal weapons. We’ve traveled to cities such as Kenosha, Los Angeles and Chicago to explore what the same issues look like across the United States. We even found ourselves witnessing and documenting history on election night Washington DC and Philadelphia as new narratives unfolded. We’ve poured over research regarding moral and social psychology and dug into the racial history of our nation’s past. We have traveled across the country filming racial and political rallies and interviewing activists, police officers, business owners and academics all over the country. We’ve done all of this to build a multi-faceted perspective of what it means to be human amidst the racial, social and political tensions we are currently facing. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message

    Beth Moyer | Ep. 12

I am a light-bringer. I am a professional cheerleader, but I keep it real. I will teach you how to empower yourself to become Bold. I will encourage you to show up and honor your Authentic self. And that will make you Magnetic to all forms of abundance. I will help you create the life that is calling you. I will support you as you become who you are meant to be.  “Beth Moyer possesses the rare quality of leading with her emotional intelligence, and I would highly recommend her as an empowerment coach.  I worked with Beth at Nike for several years, and always appreciated the positive energy she brought into a room.  Her energy was pervasive, and at times helped shift my own thoughts and feelings to a more positive place in that moment.  I recall a time when I was frustrated by a work situation, and felt like I needed to be extremely vocal to get my point across.  Although Beth wasn’t involved in the issue, she brought humor and authenticity to the conversation and I quickly pivoted from feeling frustrated to feeling EMPOWERED. If you are interested in learning how to be unapologetic about who you are, come to a place of peace with the decisions you’ve made in your life or own how you shape your future, RUN, don’t walk to what Beth has to offer.” – Pratima Razdan, Nike --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/habitsofthefew/message
