High Sensory Peoplewith Jane and Elisha
by High Sensory People
Jane and Elisha are High Sensory People. We have the genetic trait of Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS), also known as Highly Sensitive Person or HSP. We prefer the term High Sensory People. The trait does have some challenges, but being High Sensory has amazing benefits and gifts, and we want to talk about these! We believe that the world needs to know about the High Sensory trait, and the world needs High Sensory People and Leaders now, more than ever! We are both High Sensory Coaches and trained with Willow McIntosh, founder of Inluminance and the High Sensory Intelligence movement.

Welcome to the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! We are High Sensory People, which means that like 20-30% of the world’s population, we were born with the genetic trait now referred to as High Sensory Intelligence®. The scientific name of the trait is Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) but it’s commonly known right now as being highly sensitive. We are passionate about raising awareness about the HSP trait and reframing it from being highly sensitive to High Sensory. In this week’s episode we talk about addiction in part 3 of our three episode series on this. It’s an important topic and we have quite different experiences of it. Over the last two weeks, Eloish and Jane have told their very different stories of how drinking became a problem for them, and how they overcame this. This week we talk about what addiction and compulsion can look like for HSPs – and whether it might manifest a little differently to how it looks for non-HSPs? Based on our own experience, we have a few suggestions of things to try and places to go for support if you are struggling with alcohol, drugs, or any other addiction. Places to go for help or to provide support include: THERAPY, COACHING AND WELLBEING SUPPORT Therapists, especially those specialising in trauma and addiction – Elisha found that therapy helped her to recover from grey area drinking. High Sensory coaching – this can help support the huge changes we need to make to overcome addiction and compulsion. Acupuncture – Jane has found this very helpful in supporting her while working her 12 step recovery programme Massage, and all manner of self care 12 STEP FELLOWSHIPS Jane has worked through a number of different 12 step recovery programs to tackle various addictive and compulsive behaviours. They are a wonderful, completely free resource, they are organisations with a spiritual focus, but they are not religious in any way. Here are some of the most popular ones: Alcoholics Anonymous https://www.aa.org/ Narcotics Anonymous https://www.aa.org/ Marijuana Anonymous https://marijuana-anonymous.org/ Overeaters Anonymous https://oa.org/ Codependents Anonymous https://coda.org/ Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families https://adultchildren.org/ Debtors Anonymous https://debtorsanonymous.org/ Workaholics Anonymous https://workaholics-anonymous.org/ Underearners Anonymous https://www.underearnersanonymous.org/ And for those with family members in addiction or alcoholism, Al-Anon is a good place to seek support https://al-anon.org/ and there is an equivalent for those with family members in addiction https://www.nar-anon.co.uk/ THE 12 STEP HSP NEW ONLINE COURSE Jane is currently piloting her exciting new online course called The 12 Step HSP: The basic guide to being a High Sensory Person in 12 step recovery. Episode 14: High Sensory Introverts, with Alexander Hohmann and Dr Shireen Maluf
Welcome to the 14th episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! This episode is all about High Sensory Introverts. And since Elisha and I are both extroverts, we have two guests to help us, Alexander Hohmann and Dr Shireen Maluf, who are High Sensory Coaches, and introverts. It was a fascinating conversation and we are so grateful to our guests for sharing their experiences so eloquently. Alexander Hohmann is a life & business coach working especially, but not exclusively with people who are either HSP, or gifted, or both like himself. His work is guided by both intuition and a toolbox filled with elements from various Systemic Therapy forms and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. He works both online and in his practice located in the city of Freiburg, at the foothills of the Black Forest in Southwestern Germany. Having grown up mostly in France and still living only 30 km away from it, he offers his coaching in French, German and English. You can find his website, blog, and full contact information in all three languages here: https://www.alexander-hohmann.com/ Dr. Shireen Maluf, Healing, Coaching & Consulting. I facilitate high functioning sensitive leaders and individuals to help them get unstuck from their minds and catalyze an authentic coherence within their hearts, using my exclusive three-step Monarch Heart-Coherence Methodology. This empowers them to unleash their heightened sensory gifts, cultivate their genuine strength, and create the reality that matters to them. And I do this in three languages English/French and Arabic. I am also Doctor of Musicology, Certified Erickson and High Sensory Coach, Medicine Woman and Speaker. Available for Interviews, Speaking & Private Clients. Visit ShireenMaluf.com. Episode 13: High Sensory extroverts and introverts – Part 2
Welcome to the thirteenth episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! This week’s episode is the second part of our talk about extroversion vs introversion and the High Sensory trait. You can find the first part of our discussion in episode 11. Because HSPs tend to need a lot of time alone to recharge from a world that we find very overwhelming, it’s tempting to believe that we’re all introverts. However, the psychologist who discovered the highly sensitive trait, Dr. Elaine Aron, estimates that about 30 percent of HSPs are actually extroverts. If you’re looking for the other HSP adult tests, you can do the test for High Sensory Intelligence® devised by Willow McIntosh at Inluminance and Julie Bjelland’s HSP test is here. Episode 12: High Sensory Men, with Willow McIntosh
Welcome to the twelfth episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! This week we are joined by our first, very special guest, Willow McIntosh, who trained us to become High Sensory Coaches. Our topic is High Sensory Men; why there are so few men who are visible as HSPs, and how we can help this to change. It’s a really wonderful discussion and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it. Willow McIntosh is the founder of Inluminance and creator of the High Sensory Coaching Program. Unique circumstances during Willow’s childhood lead to the burying of his authentic self and complete misalignment to the work he was destined for. He began to carve his own path into understanding how people with sensory processing sensitivity can learn to use their genetic traits to their advantage. As an adult this led to a lifelong enquiry and practise into learning powerful energetic alignment techniques to re-engage with the authentic self. Willow believes that all people with the trait have the ability to tap into a unique skill that draws on a deeper sensory perception. Founded in their own life experience and self development they have the capacity to facilitate great transformation and development in others. Willow is on a mission to awaken us to the responsibility we have to utilise the abilities it affords in business, governments and leadership. Having successfully facilitated the development of seven figure businesses Willow’s practise has taken him all over the world. Speaking internationally, training in a broad range of fields and facilitating others for more than twenty years. Willow now specialises in facilitating people with the trait to activate them into service in alignment with their gifts and purpose as highly skilled coaches, facilitators, consultants and healers. If you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future episodes, we’d love to hear from you. And please subscribe, like and review our podcast! We are passionate about raising awareness about the HSP trait and reframing it from being highly sensitive to High Sensory. In this week’s episode we talk about having high standards and perfectionism: Some of the pitfalls of perfectionism – including our motivations for wanting to be perfect, and why this only makes us miserable Why having naturally high standards is associated with the High Sensory Trait and how has this helped us over the years (even when we didn’t know we were HSP) The difference between having high standards and perfectionism, and some of the key benefits of this aspect of the trait. Episode 4: Managing our environments at home and at work
Welcome to the fourth episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! In this episode, we talk about the importance of managing our environments at home and at work to support our High Sensory Intelligence. This includes discussion about where we live, the importance of getting enough sleep, and ways we have found to make travel easier for us, and the importance of unstructured time to rest and recharge ourselves as High Sensory People. We talk about the vital role spending time in nature plays for us in helping us to stay in balance so that we can make the most of, and enjoy our High Sensory abilities. We, like many HSPs, have found that self-employment or running our own businesses suits us better than working for others because we can control our work environment and also our work schedule. It’s important to build in breaks as we need them, but HSP work very efficiently, and given the right conditions, we can often achieve more in 4 hours than a non-HSP can get done in twice the time. Finally, we touch on some of the ways in which people have been valued at work in the past, and why this needs to change in order to get the best out of High Sensory People. Thank you so much for joining us! If you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future episodes, we’d love to hear from you. And please subscribe, like and review our podcast! Episode 3: Self-care for High Sensory People – and why it’s not selfish to put ourselves first
Welcome to the third episode of the High Sensory People podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! We are High Sensory People – HSP – which means that like 20-30% of the world’s population, we were born with the genetic trait now referred to as High Sensory Intelligence®. The scientific name of the trait is Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) but it’s commonly known right now as being highly sensitive. We are passionate about raising awareness about the HSP trait and reframing it from being highly sensitive to High Sensory. In this episode, we talk about the vital importance of self-care for us as High Sensory People, and why it’s not selfish – because when we take care of ourselves, everyone benefits. Although we need to prioritise self-care to show up authentically in the world and for our gifts to shine, some of us have found it difficult to do this. Because we spent so many years knowing what everyone around us needed, we may have put other people’s needs above our own, to our detriment, and ultimately everyone else’s too. Or we might not even have known what our needs were until we got too exhausted and unwell to carry on the way we were. We talk honestly about our experiences and how we have learned, through trial and error, to take care of our high sensory selves. For example, building in plenty of downtime; alone time and time to rest, reset and restore, has been transformative because when we’re balanced and able to live in our truth, we can really shine. These days, we know when we’re not prioritising self-care enough, because we can read and respond to the signs. And when we put ourselves and our self-care needs first, it puts us in touch with the truth of who we are and what we are here to do in the world, and ultimately, everyone benefits from that. Thank you so much for joining us! Please let us know if you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future episodes. Episode 2: What is High Sensory Intelligence® and our experiences of being High Sensory People
Welcome to the second episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! In this episode, we talk about the High Sensory trait now referred to as High Sensory Intelligence® and our experiences of being High Sensory – or HSPs. This includes some of the biological and brain differences between High Sensory People compared to others without the trait, such as a more active and reactive nervous system, and in the brain, a more active amygdala and insula, and how these mean that we experience life very differently to non HSPs. We chat through the DOES acronym devised by Dr. Elaine Aron to describe the trait in terms of D = depth of processing, O = overstimulation, E = emotional reactivity and empathy, and S = sensing the subtle. You can find links to her research and books, as well as her HSP test and her test for the high sensation seeking (HSS) aspect of the trait that we mention at Dr. Elaine Aron’s website We share some of our past experiences of not managing the trait very well, especially before we knew about it, as a result of overstimulation and overwhelm, and some of the self-care strategies that we have found to be most helpful for us. We also talk about some of the profound joys of being High Sensory, including feeling our emotions very deeply, being naturally able to understand and empathise with others, to form deep connections and also how, when we come to understand and work in harmony with the trait rather than battle against it, we may be able to experience the world around us in ways which can be profoundly magical and moving. Thank you so much for joining us! If you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future episodes, we’d love to hear from you. Episode 1: Introduction
Welcome to the very first episode of the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! We want to increase the visibility of the trait, change how the world sees High Sensory People, and inspire and empower all HSPs. In this episode, we cover three introductory topics to introduce ourselves, and the High Sensory trait. We talk about how we discovered we are High Sensory People, how being HSP impacted our lives before we knew about it, and how life changing it was when we each found out that we were born with a genetic trait that means we’re wired differently to the majority. We also explain why we called this podcast High Sensory People, and why we prefer the terms High Sensory to highly sensitive, because we believe that it doesn’t do justice to the extraordinary qualities and abilities that we have as High Sensory People. We believe that High Sensory People are so needed in the world, but the trait is not well known, and can be misunderstood. We want to help to change that, and we would love you to join us on this journey! Thank you to Elisha’s brother Nathan Wills for the wonderful original music. Don’t forget to subscribe, and do let us know if you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future episodes. Or get in touch with us at [email protected] You can find out more about us and the work we do at janeelizabethaston.com and elisha-may.com Find out more about High Sensory Intelligence® and how we became High Sensory Coaches with Willow McIntosh at Inluminance You can find resources and courses for HSPs on Julie Bjelland's website And finally, an apology… We say in the show that Dr. Elaine Aron said that she wished she had never used the word “sensitive” to describe the SPS trait. However, this may not actually be true, so please accept our apologies for this misquote. We are eternally grateful to Dr. Aron for all of her research and for bringing this trait to the attention of the world. You can find out more about her wonderful work, and do the original HSP test on Dr. Elaine Aron’s website.

Trailer – Mission statement
Welcome to the High Sensory People Podcast with Jane Elizabeth Aston and Elisha May! We are High Sensory People, which means that like 20-30% of the world’s population, we were born with the genetic trait now referred to as High Sensory Intelligence®. The scientific name of the trait is Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) but it’s commonly known right now as being highly sensitive. We are passionate about raising awareness of the HSP trait and reframing it from being highly sensitive to High Sensory. We want to increase the visibility of the trait, change how the world sees High Sensory People, and inspire and empower all HSPs. High Sensory People process the information around them very deeply through all their senses and naturally perceive things that many people miss. We share many similarities in how we experience the world, but we each have our own unique version of High Sensory Intelligence. Because we process information so deeply, it can be challenging to give ourselves what we need to thrive, rather than just survive, in a world that’s not set up for High Sensory People. But it can be overwhelming, especially before we understand how the trait can work for us, and how resilient we really are. What has sometimes in the past felt like our biggest weaknesses, can in fact, when harnessed effectively, become our greatest strength and source of power. We are not scientific experts, but we’ve got our lived experience of this trait and we want to share this with you so that the trait is better known and understood. High Sensory People bring so many gifts that the world needs now, more than ever. We would love you to join us on this journey!
