    Episode 9 - Human Zoos

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to History Unmuted, the podcast where we examine the stories that history often leaves out of the textbooks. Today we’re exploring one of the most disturbing spectacles of the modern age. For decades across Europe and the United States, millions of people visited exhibitions where human beings were displayed in reconstructed villages, staged environments, and fabricated cultural scenes. Visitors purchased tickets, walked through exhibition grounds, and watched men, women, and children from colonized regions as if they were living museum objects. History Unmuted is an educational podcast focused on historical research, interpretation, and discussion. Episode 8 - Seneca Village

Send us Fan MailMillions of people visit Central Park every year. They walk the paths, picnic on the lawns, and see it as one of the most iconic green spaces in the world. But before the park existed, a thriving community stood on that land.Long before Central Park became a symbol of New York City, the area was home to Seneca Village, a community founded in the 1820s by free Black New Yorkers. It grew into one of the most significant Black property-owning communities in the city, with homes, churches, schools, and families building stability and opportunity during a time when those opportunities were rare.In the 1850s, the city of New York used eminent domain to seize the land to build Central Park. Hundreds of residents were forced to leave, their homes demolished, and their community erased from the landscape. For more than a century, the story of Seneca Village was largely forgotten. In this episode of History Unmuted, we uncover the rise of Seneca Village, the people who built it, and the events that led to its disappearance. Through historical records and modern discoveries, we explore the community that once stood beneath one of the most famous parks in the world.Support the show“Turning up the volume on suppressed facts.”

Episode 7 - History in the Margins: The Stories Schools Skipped

Send us Fan MailWhat if the most important parts of American history… were never centered in your classroom? You learned slavery ended in 1865. But not about convict leasing that followed. You learned about westward expansion. But not the legal doctrine that justified land seizure. You learned about World War II. But not the 120,000 Americans sent to internment camps. You learned about the American Dream. But not redlining maps that decided who could build wealth. This isn’t about tearing history down. It’s about reading the whole record.Because when history is curated… power decides what gets remembered.Support the show“Turning up the volume on suppressed facts.”

Episode 3 - The Hero America Chose

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, we’re going to zoom in.Because these systems didn’t just appear — they were championed, defended, and exported. And they usually come with a face. A leader. A hero. A story we’re taught to admire.Tonight, we’re looking at how American power justifies itself — through myth, leadership, and legacy. And how one of the most celebrated figures in U.S. history embodies that contradiction.Victory for some.Suffering for others. And a story history chose to tell selectively.Which already tells you something — because when history chooses, someone is being edited out. That story has a name.Andrew JacksonSupport the show“Turning up the volume on suppressed facts.”

Episode 2 - George Santayana Was Warning Us Not Inspiring Us

Send us Fan MailIn our first episode, we talked about how history isn’t neutral. How it’s curated. Condensed. Muted.Today, we’re going to slow down.Because the thinker we’re discussing today didn’t believe societies fail because they move too slowly. He believed they fail because they move too fast to reflect. You’ve heard the line:“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”But George Santayana wasn’t offering inspiration. He was issuing a diagnosis. And like most diagnoses, it was easier to quote than to accept. This episode is about what Santayana actually meant — and what happens when his warning is ignored at scale. This is History Unmuted.Support the show“Turning up the volume on suppressed facts.”

Episode 1 - History Recorded Explained

Send us Fan MailThis is History Unmuted. This podcast exists because history isn’t just about what happened. It’s about what survived. What was written down. What was preserved. What was taught. And just as importantly — what was skipped over. What was condensed. What was reframed. What was deliberately softened so it could be absorbed without resistance. Most of us grow up believing history is a fixed record. A timeline. A series of agreed-upon facts handed down intact. But history is not neutral. It never has been.History is curated.Every story we inherit passed through human hands. Through institutions. Through power structures that decided what mattered and what didn’t.And those decisions didn’t just shape the past. They shaped us.On this show, we explore overlooked moments from America’s past, connect them to systems shaping the present, and talk about history as it’s unfolding right now — before it gets rewritten, sanitized, or selectively remembered. This isn’t about conspiracy. It’s about context.Because once you understand how narratives are formed, you begin to see why certain questions were never asked — and why some answers feel strangely incomplete.Let’s unmute history.Support the show“Turning up the volume on suppressed facts.”
