Episode 111:The Most Dangerous Order CCAs Are Told to Follow

CCAs across the country are being told to drive theirpersonal vehicles between stations while on the clock—often without clear authorization, protection, or understanding of the risks involved. This episode breaks down why that practice is dangerous, how it violates core principles ofthe contract, and what carriers and stewards must do to challenge it. From liability and safety concerns to grievance strategy, this is a must-listen for any CCA being pressured to “just help out.”

Episode 110: The Day the Mail Stops Moving – The Hidden Crisis Inside the Postal Service

In this episode, we take a hard look at the growing gap between what postal leadership says about the future of the United States Postal Service and what letter carriers are experiencing every day on the workroom floor. After Postmaster General David Steiner addressed the Postal Service Board of Governors and spoke about modernization, partnerships, and growth, many employees were left asking a different question:What does that future actually look like for the people delivering the mail?Across the country, letter carriers are facing mandatory overtime, chronic staffing shortages, growing workloads, and increasing discipline for problems they cannot control. What management often describes as “temporary challenges”has quietly become the daily operating model for thousands of postal workers. This episode breaks down the speech from a union perspective and examines the deeper issues affecting the Postal Service: burnout, operational strain, questions about privatization, and the growing frustration many carriers feeltoward both management and representation. But the conversation goes even further. What would happen if the Postal Service actually reached its breaking point? What would it mean for small businesses, rural communities, seniors who rely on medications by mail, and the millions of Americans who depend on the nation’s most trusted delivery network? For nearly 250 years, the mail has kept moving through wars, disasters, and national crises because of the dedication of the workers behind the uniform. But every system has limits. And if the warning signs inside the Postal Service continue to be ignored, the consequences will not just affect postal workers they will affect the entire country. This episode asks the difficult questions many people inside the system are already asking:How did we get here?Who is responsible? And what happens if the people carrying the system finally reach their limit?

Episode 109: How Letter Carriers Enforce Mutual Respect in the USPS

This episode cuts straight through the noise to define what “Mutual Respect” actually means under the collective bargaining agreement and why it is not optional, subjective, or up for debate. We break down what constitutes a legally recognized violation, separating real contractual breaches from management’s go to excuse of “personality conflict.” Because let’s be clear: disrespect is not a misunderstanding, it’s aviolation. You’ll hear why Mutual Respect isn’t just a principle, it’s thefoundation that must be enforced before escalating to JSOV. We explain how rank-and-file carriers and NALC shop stewards play a critical role in holding management accountable, and the exact strategies that win atarbitration. Most importantly, this episode shows how a strong union culture doesn’t just defend rights on paper it turns them into real, enforceable power on the workroom floor, every single day. If you want, I can turn this into a full scripted episode with pauses, emphasis, and a strong closing like your other ones.

Episode 108: The Weight We Carry: Stress, Harassment, and Survival in the Postal Service

In this powerful episode of Hot House with Richie Ray, Richie takes a step back from the usual contract fights and dives into something even more personal, the mental and emotional weight carried by letter carriers across the country. From long hours and constant mandates to toxic workplace culture and harassment, the job of delivering mail often comes with pressures that go far beyond the physical demands of the route.Richie breaks down the real psychological toll of the job, the warning signs of burnout many carriers ignore, and the ways workplace harassment can push employees to the breaking point if it goes unchecked. This episode also offers practical strategies for protecting yourself from documenting harassment to using union resources, and explains why the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) may be one of the most underused toolsavailable to postal employees struggling with stress, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion. Most importantly, Richie reminds listeners that behind every scanner ID and route number is a human being  and no jobis worth sacrificing your mental health. If you've ever felt the pressure of the job following you home, this episode is for you.

Episode 107: Undertime vs. Actual Time: Control, Accountability, and Protecting Yourself

Undertime isn’t just misunderstood—it’s weaponized. In this episode of Hot House with Richie Ray, we break down the truth behind undertime versus actual time and expose how management uses projections to pressure carriers, deny overtime, and create discipline. This is a two-part deep dive in one episode:We connect the dots between pivots, projections, safety, anddocumentation—and show why undertime only exists on paper, while actual timelives on the street. If you’ve ever been told to “make 8,” this episode is for you.

Episode 106: The Postal Truth: Inside the Fight for Policy, Power, and Accountability

In this episode, we explore The Postal Truth, an independent, worker built platform focused on documentation, policy literacy, and access to official public resources within the United States Postal Service environment. You can view the platform here:https://thepostaltruth.neocities.org/unionsassociationsThe discussion goes beyond the creation of a website and into the deeper motivation behind it why it was necessary, what gaps exist between official policy and day-to-day workplaceexperiences, and how misunderstanding or lack of access to information can impact employees. We break down the importance of understanding official resources like the Employee & Labor Relations Manual(ELM), the role of proper documentation in workplace situations, and why policy literacy has become a critical tool for employees seeking clarity and accountability. At its core, this conversation examines a larger question: what changes when workers take an active role in understanding the rules that govern their work environment and how that awareness can shift power, communication, and outcomes inside the system.Get your coffee from https://thepostaltruth.com/https://thepostaltruth.neocities.org/https://crearesearch.com/

Episode 105: Tom Rooney and the Fight for Region 14, Accountability, Enforcement, and the Future of Carrier Power

In this episode of Hot House with Richie Ray, Richie sits down with Tom Rooney, a candidate for NALC Region 14 National Business Agent, for a direct and unfiltered conversation about the future of representation in one of the union’s most important regions. This isn’t a scripted campaign interview. It’s a serious discussion about power, enforcement, and whether the union is doing enough to defend the people who actually deliver the mail.Rooney talks about why he believes the time for change in Region 14 is now, not years down the road. The conversation dives into some of the most pressing issues carriers face every day forced overtime, ignored safety reports, weak grievance enforcement, uneven training for stewards, and the growingfrustration many members feel when arbitration wins fail to translate into real change on the workroom floor.Richie presses Rooney on the responsibilities of the NBA position: whether repeat offender installations should be publicly called out, how smaller branches can get equal support, and what “carrier first leadership” actually looks like when management pushes back. The interview also explores deeper structural questions inside the union from steward training standards to whether union leadership should face stronger accountability when carriers are left unprotected. If you’re a letter carrier who wants to know how Region 14 leadership could change the way the contract is enforced, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Episode 101: The Steward Who Refused to Stay Quiet — Scott Vana

donated leave for Brother Robert Yauch, former Staten Island shop steward and Branch Officer for Branch 99 and Branch 41. Brother Yauch is currently in New York District 1 and needs your help. If anyone can donate 8 hours, it would be greatly appreciated.LSP #: 26-4B-100-0562In this powerful interview, Carrier Scott breaks his silence on what really happens behind the uniform, inside the stations, and within the union that is supposed to protect every letter carrier. Through raw, unfiltered questions, Scott retraces his journey from an optimistic new hire to a shop steward whofound himself fighting not just management but the very institution meant to defend workers.Scott reveals the moment he realized the post office wasn’t just a job but a system, and how standing up for others cost him long before it ever paid him back. He opens up about the emotional toll of stewardship, the isolation that comes with defending carriers, and the quiet politics that determine who rises, who gets silenced, and who gets blackballed. The conversation confronts uncomfortable truths about the National Association of Letter Carriers: whether it still shields workers or filters them, whether democracy inside the union is real or merely performed, and why reformers are branded as “divisive” while entrenched power is labeled “experienced.”Scott also addresses the future of the USPS privatization concerns, delayed mail, crumbling transportation networks, and whether the current trajectory is an accidental collapse or a strategic hollowing out. He explains why he refusedto cross into management despite the easier path, and why he believes voices like James Henry, Corey Walton, and the Concerned Letter Carriers matter now more than ever. This episode is a candid look at solidarity, betrayal, courage, and the high cost of telling the truth. And in the end, Scott answers the question every listener will be asking Knowing everything it cost him, would he do it all again? You can email Scott Vana at [email protected]

Episode 100 “What Management Says vs. What Carriers Experience”

In this episode, we take a deep and honest look at the recent remarks made by the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service and break them down from the perspective of the workers who actually move the mail every day.Management often speaks about modernization, efficiency, growth, and flexibility. But what does that look like on the workroom floor? This episode examines the growing disconnect between leadership narratives and the daily realities faced by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers. We explore some of the most pressing issues affecting the postal workforce today, including chronic staffing shortages, mandatory overtime becoming the norm instead of the exception, and the increasing pressure placed on carriers to deliver more work under increasingly difficult conditions. The episode also examines how operational failures, such as delayed trucks, weather events, equipment problems, and understaffed offices, often result in discipline directed at frontline employees rather than accountability at the management level.Beyond the day to day workplace issues, we dive deeper into the broader structural challenges facing the Postal Service. From cost-cutting initiatives and network transformation plans to new last-mile logistics partnerships, we discuss what these changes may mean for the future of postal work and thelong-term stability of the institution itself. We also raise difficult but necessary questions about representation and accountability. As working conditions continue to deteriorate in many installations across the country, many carriers are asking whether leadership, bothwithin management and within labor organizations, is doing enough to protect the workforce and preserve the integrity of the system. This episode is not just about workplace conditions. It is about the future of one of the most important public institutions in the United States. The Postal Service connects rural communities, supports small businesses, delivers medications and essential goods, and serves as a lifeline for millions of Americans who depend on reliable mail service. If the system weakens, the consequences will not only affect postal employees, they will affect the entire country. This conversation takes a serious look at where things stand today, what warning signs are emerging inside the system, and what could happen if those warnings continue to go unaddressed.Because the truth is simple. The Postal Service does not run on speeches or policy statements. It runs on the people who carry the mail. And the future of the institution depends on whether the system supports them or continues to push them beyond their limits.

Episode 96: Carrying More Than Mail

Today’s episode is for letter carriers. Not supervisors. Not management. Not everyone thinks this job is easy. This episode is about the mental weight of carrying mail every single day—because we don’t just carry letters. We carry pressure. We carry stress. We carry fear, anger, exhaustion, and silence. We break down what a letter carrier's mental struggle actually looks like behind the scanner numbers and forced smiles. Why does this job cut so deeply into mentalhealth? Why burnout, isolation, and emotional shutdown are treated like weaknesses instead of warning signs. This isn’t motivational bullshit. This is real. We talk what to do whenyou’re struggling—realistic tools that actually work, notslogans. On the route: howto survive the day without breaking.Off the route: whatreal support actually looks like when the uniform comes off.Boundaries and hardtruths: what you owe the job—and what you absolutely donot. Most importantly, this episode says the thing nobody says out loud enough: You are not weak. You are not failing. And you are not alone. This one is for the carriers still standing—even when they feel like they’re barely holding it together.

Episode 95: At the Breaking Point: Staffing Respect, Delayed Mail, and the Fight for the Soul of Our Union

In this episode, today we’re talking about staffing, Article 8 abuse, the uniform crisis, mutual respect on the workroom floor, stationary events, and now delayed mail, and a public that’s being turned against us. And we’re asking the hardest question of all: When will the National Association of Letter Carriers stand up for the letter carrier, not the Service? Because if we lose the public’s trust, and we loseour own unity, this great union is in real danger. WE ARE AT A BREAKING POINT. This job feels different right now. Not just hard, but unsustainable. People are tired. People are angry. People are questioning whether this union still has their back. STAFFING AND ARTICLE 8 THE ROOT OF EVERYTHING, STATIONARY EVENTS HARASSMENT BY TECHNOLOGY, MUTUAL RESPECT OR THE LACK OF IT, THE UNIFORM CRISISA SYMBOL OF NEGLECT, DELAYED MAIL, AND THE PUBLIC TURNING ON US, WHO IS THE UNION REALLY DEFENDING? WHY DOES THE CONCERNED LETTER CARRIER SLATE MATTERS? IS IT TOO LATE OR IS THERE STILL HOPE? WE CANNOT GIVE UP

We go over the January 15, 2026, OIG Audit Report on Grievance Management. I bring up one of my old episodes, Episode 31. I ask all of you, Fight Like Hell for what? We discuss the abandoned carrier. The shadow of the new contract. The fight we need is contract enforcement and carrier safety. We discuss the open letter to the NALC National Leadership from the rank and file. We get into paper tiger national leadership, the questionis If we aren’t fighting to save the service, we are just fighting over the scraps of a dying company. The Transparency Blackout. We also discussed that yourbranch is grievance-rich but spirit-poor. Does the grievance check feel like a win, or does it feel like hush money? Grievance vs Reality, this is my two cents when we discuss this. This episode does not hold back on anyone; however, itdiscusses the true truths that our membership sees every day and is feeling as of right now, and there must be a change. I hope you enjoy this episode, and please make comments in the comment part of this page so we can get your view onwhat was discussed, what I got wrong, or what I left out. Please, this is for all of us to discuss and try to correct these real issues. I decided to do two episodes in one. In addition to thisepisode, this is kind of like a part two of the previous episode, but it kind of isn’t, fight like hell… for what? We discuss the NALC-USPS contract is expiring, and the slogan we keep hearing is “fight like hell,” but fight like hell for what? What gets deep in this episode is what letter carriers are actually fighting for. Management accountability-or lack of it. The grievance system is failing. GPS & scanning abuse, Harassment by Technology. Forced Falsification of scans. Safety and Service are the two biggest lies. No enforcement Systemic Collapse. Broken window policy: fix it, or it shatters. The union at cross roads. The path forward change, TRANSPARENCY, Accountability, the Concerned letter carriers are here for us for 2026, we need to vote them in so all these issues can be addressed.
