    10. Living In Your Season and Embracing Winter Rhythms

How are you spending your winter? In this episode, we explore the concept of "wintering" as a period of rest, reflection, and recovery to prepare for sustainable growth. We discuss the importance of listening to your body, setting energetic boundaries, and focusing on the positives of winter, such as coziness, hobbies, and quiet introspection. By letting go of limiting beliefs and decluttering your mind, body, and spirit, you can create space for creativity and action - even if you’re stuck indoors! Some key takeaways from this episode include: Tune in to your inner voice and set boundaries. Learning to truly listen to your body and honor its needs is no small feat—it requires slowing down and practicing self-compassion. Shift the focus from output to sustainability. Instead of measuring success by how much you accomplish, consider how you can recharge and build rhythms that support longevity.  Explore your resistance to rest. If the idea of rest feels uncomfortable or even impossible, it might signal unresolved trauma that needs gentle exploration. Through practices like therapy, movement, or mindful reflection, you can begin to process these barriers and create space for genuine restoration. The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. 9. Following Helpful vs. Unhelpful Routines and Habits

All the new year chatter is around healthy vs. unhealthy habits, but what if we instead framed things as “helpful” or “unhelpful”? In this episode, we’re discussing the importance of personal rituals and routines, the influence of human design on these practices, and how sometimes the most healing thing you can do is cozy up on the couch with a comfort show and takeout. We talk through the importance of listening to your body, evaluating your needs, and making the decision that feels most helpful to your present and future self.  Some key takeaways from this episode include: A significant theme we discuss is understanding the "why" behind our rituals. Are they for self-improvement, or driven by external pressures? Maintaining curiosity and openness allows you to explore options, from gym routines or reading non-fiction to walking in nature or watching a comfort show to wind down.  Our routines and rituals are ever-evolving. Instead of chasing the “perfect” routine, allow your routines to be flexible based on what you need in that season, or even what you need on that specific day. Even the most mundane rituals can provide some peace and meditative calm if we set the right environment for it. Try lighting your favorite calming candle, dimming the lights, and playing calming music while you do laundry or tidy your kitchen and notice how your mood changes. 8. When Rachel Met Val | Unpacking Our Upbringings, Core Experiences, and How We Met

Have you ever met someone and it felt so serendipitous and right that you knew it was orchestrated by the universe? That’s how it felt when we met each other! But the decades leading up to that moment impacted just how magical that felt.  The episode delves into our personal backgrounds, cultural lenses, and how our professional paths intersected. We touch on the significance of childhood experiences, generational trauma, and the role of curiosity and intuition in personal growth and healing.  Resources mentioned: Behind the Throne: Processing the 2024 Election Results Some key takeaways from this episode include: Traveling to new places, or living in a different place than where you grew up, can be scary but transformative. Getting out of your comfort zone and exposing yourself to new ways of living, new people, and new routines is a huge opportunity for growth. Generational trauma and cultural experiences absolutely have an impact on how we see the world and ourselves. It’s important to find practitioners that can help you work through that in order to break those patterns. The words and messages you receive have physiological impacts. You might notice physical symptoms that can be explained or treated by deeply rooted trauma. 7. Anti-Resolution, Personal Revolution | Using Human Design to Set Your Goals for the New Year

It’s the end of the year, which means it’s about that time when we’re bombarded with messages like “new year, new you,” and reflecting on what we did (and didn’t) accomplish. We’d like to propose an alternative strategy for goal setting: saying f*ck it to the capitalistic roots of resolutions and saying yes to setting goals for your authentic self. In this episode, we share how we use human design to set our own goals, and how we keep our humanity at the center of it all.  Resources mentioned: To Be Magnetic - Use affiliate code RACHEL6956 to support the podcast! Some key takeaways from this episode include: A basic energetic principle is that creation needs structure. You can embrace January 1st as a fresh start and the beginning of a new rhythm, but you don’t need to sign up for achievement culture and perfectionism in the name of “new year, new me.” Get honest about the “why” behind the goals you’re setting for the next year. Don’t stop at the first “why” - ask yourself again why that “why” is important to you, and why that reason is important, and so on. Get as deep as you can, and that core reason will be what sustains you. Recognize where you’re stressing yourself out with self-imposed deadlines. As the year progresses and life brings challenges, consider what you can let go of if it doesn’t resonate with you anymore. The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. 6. Your Highest Self vs. Your Shadow Self | Human Design for Life’s Highs and Lows

Life is full of emotional ebbs and flows, so how do we remain our authentic selves through it all? In this episode, we delve into how human design can support you through life's highs and lows, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and meeting your core needs. We discuss different emotional signatures based on your human design profile, and strategies to enhance self-awareness, set boundaries, and foster healthy relationships.  Resources mentioned: Get Your Free Human Design Chart Some key takeaways from this episode include: Showing up as your 'best self' doesn't demand perfection. It's about intention versus reaction. This might mean pausing to meditate, spending time in nature, or simply acknowledging your current reactive state without judgment. Understanding the human design types of those around you can help avoid taking conflicts personally, and encourage compassionate communication.  The journey of self-discovery and alignment is ongoing. Every emotional struggle is an opportunity to reevaluate, realign, and move forward toward a more authentic existence.  The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. 5. Being a Female Leader in a Global Corporation | Leadership Styles, Human Design, and Letting Go with Angie Jackson

Moving up the corporate ladder as a female leader is not an easy ride - especially if you’re the first woman in your organization to make strides toward the top. In this episode, we brought on Angie Jackson, who is a longtime mentor and dear friend to Val, and who has also worked with Rachel on her human design and reiki. Angie shares her experience as a leader at a global corporation, and how understanding her human design and leadership style helped her navigate big challenges with grace. Some key takeaways from this episode include: Making a huge cultural shift within a corporation requires deep understanding and acceptance of yourself. If you second guess your skills and your values, you won’t be able to weather the challenges of making that cultural shift. Being the “first” of anything - like the first woman in a specific role - can be scary. In those moments, lean on the people you trust who are going to speak life into you and help you see your value. There are going to be curveballs and collisions on your journey, but it’s so important to let go of the resentment and anger that comes up. It won’t be immediate, but if you carry those feelings with you, they’ll close you off from all the goodness you have to offer. The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. 4. Handling the Holidays | Responding to Comments from Family, Navigating Family Dynamics, and More

With the holiday season just around the corner, many of us are mentally and emotionally preparing to interact with family members that tend to trigger us. In this episode, we’re sharing the prep strategies that will help you enter the holiday season feeling rooted and grateful, and how to respond to offhand comments without flying off the handle. Resources mentioned: Grounding sheets (Val reported back and they've been a game changer for her!) Join the Human Sessions Circle! Some key takeaways from this episode include: One way to mentally prepare for triggering family gatherings is to get rooted in your self-worth. Sometimes comments from family members hurt so badly because they chip at our self-worth. If we know what truly makes us unique and valuable, you’re less likely to let an offhand comment take you down. Grounding is an excellent strategy for handling stressful moments. Stepping out into the sunshine, standing firmly in the grass, and taking some deep breaths can help you calm down when you’re feeling heated. If someone makes a hurtful comment to you, ask them a question back. “Why did you ask me that?” or “Did you mean to say that to me?,” which will help you take a beat rather than reacting in the moment. You get to choose which dynamics you participate in. 3. What to Say to Someone Who’s Grieving + Rituals, Boundaries, and Communication for Grief

Talking about loss is really uncomfortable. Most of us were never taught how to talk about grief, so when someone we love is going through grief, we don’t always know the right things to say. In this episode, we’re exploring what makes sitting in grief so difficult, how to support people through grief, and how we’ve coped with grief in both healthy and not-so-healthy ways. Plus, how to set boundaries and avoid triggering family members during the holidays. Some key takeaways from this episode include: Holding space looks like physically being there, sending a check-in text, sending a meme that makes them feel seen, and canceling plans to be there with them, and validating their feelings. Saying “let me know how I can help you” is well intentioned, but puts a lot of emotional work on that person to ask for help. Instead, offer something concrete like “I’m bringing you dinner this week - does Tuesday or Thursday work better for you?”  Rituals and routines are key for getting through grief or just coping with the everyday stress of life. Customize it to yourself - do you need 30 minutes of quiet time when you get home from work? Can you create a more mindful routine around making and sipping your morning coffee?  The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. 2. Processing Grief & Trauma | What Trauma Is, Finding Coping Mechanisms, and More

“Trauma” is a buzzword that everyone - from coaches to comedians - has been throwing around, but what does it actually mean? Grief and trauma are big themes on our podcast, so in this episode we are setting the tone and providing context for what we mean when we’re talking about grief. In this episode, we define grief and trauma, give examples of how it’s shown up for us, and what healing can look like. Some key takeaways from this episode include: A “big T” trauma is when something happens that shatters your world, and it feels like you’ll be in that lost place forever. A “little T” trauma still makes you feel unsafe but it hasn’t shattered your nervous system and ability to regulate yourself. Understanding trauma allows us to have more empathy and compassion for previous generations, friends, and strangers. Once you recognize how trauma is driving their emotions, you can help them identify that and work through it, or at least have more empathy for them. Resilience isn’t always a good default coping mechanism. Sometimes “resilience” means shoving your feelings down and pushing forward, which is not a healthy way of coping with trauma.  The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach. On this podcast, we’ll explore how to handle lived experiences with tools like human design, mindfulness, reiki, and more. 1. What Is Human Design? | Origins, Types, and How It’s Supported Our Professional & Personal Growth

Human design is an increasingly popular method of self-exploration to promote your growth both personally and professionally, but it is not a personality test. Human design is based on the date, time, and place of your birth, but before you write it off as too woo-woo, it’s such a specific and accurate strengths assessment that you’ll wonder why you didn’t have your chart read sooner. In this episode, we explain exactly where human design came from, how it became a tool for our development, and how it can benefit you in your own life. Resources mentioned: Get Your Free Human Design Chart Some key takeaways from this episode include: You get to decide which parts of your human design really resonate with you, as long as you approach it with curiosity. Even if you’re not into energetic work, you might be surprised by how spot-on it is. Human design allows us to understand the nuances and reasons behind people’s behaviors and tendencies, which helps create more compassion and empathy in our relationships. There are five human design types: manifestors, generators, manifesting generators, projectors, and reflectors. The way your strengths and areas of opportunity present within each type are completely personalized to you. The Human Sessions podcast is a collaboration between Rachel Walt, Human Design Expert and Reiki Master, and Val Morini, Grief & Trauma Specialist and Energy Coach.
