Rolfe Kanefsky Interview – Idle Chatter 18
Andrew and Josh are back for an all-new episode of the Idle Chatter Show! This week Andrew and Josh try Dew-S-A, Andrew sits down and interview Rolfe Kanefsky, and discusses Colin Moriarty vs Bill Nye. Idle Happenings Former video game journalist Colin Moriarty has taken to YouTube as a politics and history commentator. His more conservative worldview is at the forefront of his new show, Colin’s Last Stand, but he sure seems to be watching Bill Nye’s new show, as his content choices strangely have been mirroring that of Nye’s new Netflix show, Bill Nye Saves the World. Could the conservative history fanatic be enjoying the Liberal favorite Bill Nye? It seems that way. Colin Moriarty vs Bill Nye Josh and Andrew also take a few moments to chat about the new Bladerunner trailer. Visually the film looks to be stellar and the trailer leaves so much juicy mystery that the guys can’t wait to see more. And Ryan Gosling is dreamy. Featured Chatter: Rolfe Kanefsky Interview Andrew releases an interview from the vault with filmmaker Rolfe Kanefsky. Rolfe is an active filmmaker to this day but his first feature, There’s Nothing Out There, includes a character named Mike who strikes a major resemblance to the character Randy from Wes Craven’s Scream. One detail to note in this news is that Rolfe’s film predates Scream by six years. Both Craven and writer Kevin Williamson likely both saw There’s Nothing Out There before making their 90’s slasher hit film. How do we know? Listen and find out! #16 Lengthy Movies
Idle Happenings: This week the guys chat about a re-release of the controversial early nineties Sega CD game called Night Trap on the PS4 and Xbox One. Full motion video games were all the rage back in the early days of the video game on CD but they haven’t aged well. Goldblum is back and Andrew and Josh attempt to impersonate him while chatting about the recent announcement that he will reprise his role as Ian Malcolm in the upcoming JURASSIC WORLD sequel. New this week is a segment featuring a drive-in movie selection from the book JOE BOB GOES TO THE DRIVE IN by drive-in movie critic and former Monstervision host, Joe Bob Briggs. Your fearless hosts will pick one movie from Joe Bob’s book each week, watch it, then report their findings right here each week. Featured Chatter: Andrew and Josh discuss lengthy movies and whether there is such a thing as a movie that is too long. What is your run time sweet spot? Is there ever a reason for a movie to run past three hours? The post Lengthy Movies – Idle Chatter 17 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

#16 Discontinued Sodas of the 80s and 90s
Andrew and Josh introduce a new format for The Idle Chatter Show starting with a new segment called IDLE HAPPENINGS featuring commentary about recent news stories in video games and movies. FEATURED CHATTER on this episode is a chat about soft drink nostalgia from the 1980s and 1990s. Do you remember any of the beverages discussed on this episode? Which did the guys leave out? Some of these drinks met their demise for good reason, others deserve another moment or two in the spotlight. #15 The Video Rental Store
Back before Netflix and Hulu, and even before DVDs there was this little thing called the video store. Millenials may not relate to the video store, but back in the day, it was the highlight of Friday night for many folks. The video store was a sacred place. If you grew up in the 80s or 90s you know what I mean. But I digress. The video store is gone and has been replaced by this weird technology that nobody really understands called the internet. Prime Time Video – Trenton, Ohio Long before the days of his internet fame (hah!), Andrew worked at an old school video rental store in Trenton, OH, called Prime Time Video. The video store is long gone, and has been replaced by a pizza place, but the memories still remain. On this episode of the Idle Chatter Show, he reminisces about his days in the store with his old pal and co-worker, Meagan. Join Andrew and Meagan as they take you on a walk down memory lane and share their tales of the video store. Be sure to rewind this episode when you’re finished. Lord Hellmutt Invades – Idle Chatter Podcast 14
Andrew’s old pal Chris Reeves joins on this episode to chat about the good old days of working in a childcare center. In particular, the conversation settled in on discussing at length the humor one could find in seeking out the typos the lunch lady made while filling out the lunch menu each month. Chicken Dummies, anyone? Remember Rax Roast Beef? Our nostalgic minds tell us that it was better than Arby’s. A few locations still exist and we’d love to know…is it actually better? We vividly remember the crocodile mascot on the kids’ meals and the font on the sign for the restaurant itself. Remember that one time when Shaq was an actor? In a DC comics movie, no less? It’s funny to think these days that DC comics movies have really come no further. Shaq has always been interesting. He advertises jock itch powder and candy bars, but out favorite is when he got into a word pronouncing argument in a commercial. What do you think is it “Care-a-mel” or “Car-mel?” As if this chat couldn’t get any more random, Chris reminisced on the old days playing in bands in high school and having the opportunity to play with the one and only LORD HELLMUTT. HELLMUTT must have sensed a disturbance in the force while he spoke about him because he decided to dive-bomb our episode and call in. He even took the time out of his busy schedule to perform for us. You won’t forget this one, folks. The post Lord Hellmutt Invades – Idle Chatter Podcast 14 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

Stranger Things and Ghosbusters – Idle Chatter Podcast 13
You ever get tired of the remake conversation? Hope not, because we’re having one here this week, though it may not be taking the typical avenue as most remake discussions. GHOSTBUSTERS released recently and both Andrew and Josh got a chance to check it out. While it is a reboot/remake, it seems to stand on its own merits, even though it clearly and obviously has well known shoulders to stand upon. Ghostbusters 2016 Review Ghostbusters 2016 As defenders of many remakes, we here at Idle Chatter sometimes have our opinions challenged. That’s a good problem to have; in fact, it isn’t a problem at all. Craig Layne recently said on the Intermission Podcast that he enjoyed the new GHOSTBUSTERS. When he did, he was asked by a co-host, Guy King, what he would think if someone remade BACK TO THE FUTURE. Andrew has been asked that very same question before and, honestly, it is a tough one to answer. GHOSTBUSTERS is definitely a favorite of Josh’s, and Andrew has always enjoyed it as well. BACK TO THE FUTURE, however, is a completely different story. Andrew has lived and breathed that movie since he was able to sit in front of his television and VCR and see it for the first time. Enjoy his thoughts on why a reboot of GHOSTBUSTERS makes more sense than BTTF, but time travel definitely is a concept that still works in film to this day. Stranger Things on Netflix Stranger Things Have you seen STRANGER THINGS on Netflix? Do yourself a favor and see it. The guys won’t spoil anything here on this episode when it comes to the plot of the show, but they definitely delve into the influences and how it is a show that strikes the perfect balance of nostalgia, without lacking originality and a vision all of its own. Sit back, relax, turn up the volume just a bit…maybe six or seven dots on your phone and enjoy this brand new Idle Chatter. The post Stranger Things and Ghosbusters – Idle Chatter Podcast 13 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

Theme Parks for Your Amusement – Idle Chatter Episode 12
Cedar Point – Water Park Pokémon. Gotta catch ‘em all, right? Why does a 32 year old geek still feel the need to accept such a quest? Because who doesn’t like finding a Pikachu in the booze section of a grocery store on a lunch break, am I right? Pokémon GO was unleashed on the world last week and has swiftly taken over the lives of the young and not-so-young. The game is truly addictive, even if it isn’t truly as innovative as it seems upon launching the app on your phone. There is a certain level of charm surrounding the cute little monsters already and when paired with people’s obsessive nature and desire to collect all of them; it is a force to be reckoned with. Look around you, trainers are everywhere and they’re easy to spot. They have their eyes plastered to their phone’s screen and wear the grin of a five year old on their face. On to the meat of the discussion this week: theme/amusement parks. Craig Layne joins this week to chat with Andrew about his recent adventures at Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Carowinds. Andrew is a Kings Island season pass holder and spent some time recently in Orlando at Walt Disney World. The discussion started with a comparison of the three Cedar Fair Parks, starting with Cedar Point. Cedar Point is clearly the crown jewel of Cedar Fair Amusements, outside of their year round park in California, Knott’s Berry Farm. Known as the roller coaster capitol of the world, the park is known for high-speed thrills and towering lift-hills. Craig spent a day there recently and experienced a taste of the post-apocalyptic world when a storm blew through, rendering the park power-less for most of the late-afternoon. Cedar Point Power Failure #CPblackout Carowinds is a distinctive park due to the fact that is sits squarely on the border of North and South Carolina. You can ride rides and be in two places simultaneously. The park also is home to the new behemoth of a steel coaster, Fury 325. Is the thrill of the newer record breaking ride enough to overcome the apathetic park staff? Fury 325 – Carowinds Kings Island Is both Craig and Andrew’s home turf; a former theme park that still claims to be one, but has slipped into the “thrill” mentality of the above mentioned Cedar Fair parks. The land marks in the park still exist, the specific areas of the park still exist, but the attention to the small details make each location blend in with the next, resulting in an identity crisis. Kings Island – Eiffel Tower To wrap the conversation, the guys talk a bit about Universal Studios and Magic Kingdom in Orlando and compare how those parks work and the rides themselves with the Midwestern parks. Why are the experiences so different? Maybe they are supposed to be? Listen in and come to your own conclusions. The post Theme Parks for Your Amusement – Idle Chatter Episode 12 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

The Fog – Idle Chatter Episode 11
Did you know that the Idle Chatter guys could pull off detailed, concise film discussions? On this episode, Andrew and Josh dig into the Scream Factory release of John Carpenter’s THE FOG. The Fog (1980) – Poster Filled with atmosphere, fantastic music scored by Carpenter himself, and the ever-popular Jamie Lee Curtis, this eerie cautionary tale warns any of you future founders of towns to not steal your start up funds from pirates with leprosy. Could Adrienne Barbeau, Carpenter’s former love, look or sound any more fantastic? Her Stevie Wayne radio voice could be used the read the telephone book (they still make those?) and we’d listen to the whole thing. Also, this film features Janet Leigh, Jamie Lee’s mother and star of the Hitchcock classic, PSYCHO. The Fog Scream Factory Blu-Ray The Fog Scream Factory Bluray If you get a chance, pick this Scream Factory Blu-Ray Disc up. Excellent features pack an already fantastic experience to the gills with commentaries, featurettes, and a filming locations video by Sean Clark in his series of excellent pieces titled HORROR’S HALLOWED GROUNDS that you can find other entries in on multiple Scream Factory titles. This film, without a doubt, is an awe-inspiring piece of suspenseful horror. Like that spine-tingling feeling but not as into the gore? This is your film. Want music that will get caught in your head and draws you back for another viewing? This is your film. Like Tom Atkins without his signature mustache (blasphemy!)? This is your film. Don’t go near the fog, but definitely listen to this episode. Then get THE FOG on your screen…right away! E3 2016: The Stories Catching Our Eye – Idle Chatter 10
Anal Museum – Middletown Ohio Mr. Sulu (George Takei) took to Facebook and shared a picture of our hometown of Middletown, Ohio. Why you ask? Because of the Anal Museum. Yes, you read correctly. All anal aside, E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo kicked off this week. One day into the expo and it’s safe to say we’re pretty excited about what’s to come in the world of video games. Electronic Arts E3 2016 Electronic Arts showed game play for Battlefield 1, which is set in World War 1. Will today’s FPS gamers take to the slower pace of the weaponry from that era? The jury is still out on that, but it’s an interesting change of pace in contrast to the slew of bland futuristic military shooters of today. Bethesda: Skyrim re-mastered, Fallout 4, and VR Bethesda announced that Skyrim will be remastered for ps4 and Xbox One with support for the modding community. Fallout 4 will also be getting some new downloadable content, including a post apocalyptic amusement part. Furthering the Fallout world also is future support for Virtual Reality. Is virtual reality a technology that will eventually be in all gamers’ homes? Is it a passing fad? Probably neither, as it could have more practical applications in an arcade environment. Friday the 13th the game! Friday the 13th: The Game Stealing the show for Andrew is the gameplay footage for the upcoming FRIDAY THE 13th the game. The concept is simple, one online player plays infamous on-screen killer, Jason Voorhees, while the other online players take on caricatures of 80’s stereotypical teen camp counselors. Jason hunts the teens, the teens try to survive the night. With the camp atmosphere, the music from the original movie composer, and Jason’s mom talking to him throughout his hunt in the woods, this one is sure to be a hit for slasher film fans! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAUkJeKbfcc Dig in to the anals (annals?) of Idle Chatter. The post E3 2016: The Stories Catching Our Eye – Idle Chatter 10 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

Gorillas, Ecto- Cooler, and the Ghostbusters Fallout – Idle Chatter 9
Andrew takes to the mic on this new Idle Chatter to discuss a happening in the southwestern Ohio region as well as many happenings in the movie world, especially pertaining to GHOSTBUSTERS. Tragedy struck the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Andrew weighs in with his thoughts and chats about where the zoo should go from here, as well as social media reactions to such tragic events. May 31st, 2016 marks the last day a BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE RIDE gave rides to anyone on planet Earth, as the attraction in Universal Studios Japan closed. So is the end of an era, too many ends to the same era for the old dudes on Idle Chatter. Back to the Future the Ride Vlogging is the new fun on the block over at the Idle Chatter YouTube channel, with the latest documenting a hunt for Hi-C Ecto Cooler in stores. The juice beverage is still at large in the tri-state area as of this episode, even though it was intended to be a large part of the marketing campaign for the movie. EctoCooler Speaking of GHOSTBUSTERS, did you know that weighing in with your opinion on the upcoming film could possibly label you as sexist? Ask James Rolfe, AKA The Angry Video Game Nerd. Andrew also had an opportunity to invite an Ecto-1 replica car to his newest event in Middletown, Ohio this October. The car is called the ECT-OH1O and you can check it out on Facebook. Friday the 13th: Adrienne King Interview – Idle Chatter 8
Adrienne King Interview A couple years back, Andrew got the opportunity to have a lovely and lengthy chat with the star of the original FRIDAY THE 13th. As exciting as it was when it happened, the episode never made it to the ears of many listeners so now Idle Chatter presents it to you, the Movie Guys visitors and podcast listeners. What makes this conversation so interesting is Adrienne’s passion for life and her art, along with the anecdotes of her scenes with the late Betsy Palmer, who fans of F13 will know as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother. It’s a testament to Betsy’s character that she was spoken so highly of by all who worked with her…before she was gone and speaking highly of someone becomes the “right” or “popular” thing to do. Convention goers, filmmakers, actors, effects artists loved Betsy, and the list could (and does) go on and on. Adrienne has an immense love for all of “her” Jasons, as she puts it. Listening to her chat about her favorites in the series is a treat, as she clearly loves the franchise and the fans that have adored it with her for all of these years. A real life scream queen on Idle Chatter? Yep, it happened. Listen to the proof! The post Friday the 13th: Adrienne King Interview – Idle Chatter 8 first appeared on Movie Guys {dot} org.

Video Games As Movies – Idle Chatter Episode 7
Ratchet and Clank 2016 Are we just nostalgic old dudes who are resistant to change, or has Nintendo really lost its touch? Converging at the same time were the release dates of two (typically) awesome games. One being the Sony exclusive, RATCHET AND CLANK, which is a re-imagining of the 2002 PS2 hit game that spawned an exciting video game franchise, the other was STAR FOX ZERO, the long awaited return to form of a beloved franchise dating back to the SNES. Which is the better choice? Andrew asked on his personal Facebook account and received overwhelming feedback in favor of STAR FOX ZERO…listen to the show to find out why, as of the recording he was playing and live streaming RATCHET. Yes, you read that correctly. This entire episode was streamed live on Twitch, while we simultaneously recorded the podcast as well. You may hear some faint game audio as well as some controller button clicks along the way as Josh and Andrew play and chat about the current state of Nintendo and their future as a hardware creator as well as some chatter about video games developed as movies. Which ones have been good, bad, ugly and which video game franchises would we like to see made into feature films in the future. Star Fox Zero 2016 Once the podcast mics went silent, we continued on with the stream which led to this little precious gem below. 16-Bit Horror Video Games – Idle Chatter Episode 6
16-Bit Horror – The Idle Chatter Show They’re coming to get you, nerds! The horrors that lurk in the darkness on the 16-bit consoles of yesteryear, that is. Who remembers the mighty Super Nintendo Entertainment System and its direct competitor, the Sega Genesis? This was the era of gaming that defined the guys’ childhoods here on Idle Chatter. From movie tie-in games, to original titles, the two big 16 bit home consoles were not short on their titles aimed to spook, scare, creep out, and induce chills. This week friend of the show, Rob O’Hara, joins Andrew. Rob is a podcaster, author, and video game junkie who has a wealth of history with gaming to share on the show. You can check out more from Rob on his website. We’d love to hear from listeners on this topic. What are some of your favorite horror-inspired games from your youth? Batman V Superman: Dawn of Pee Wee - Idle Chatter Episode 5
Nickelodeon Gak How many fingers does it take to get the perfect fart noise using Gak? Remember that stuff? Branded under the old school Nickelodeon name, the gelatinous goo is back and exactly as we remember it, smell and all. We pressed and squeezed inside the container with one finger and it just wasn’t enough, two was better but we think there is more flatulent fun in there. Will three be too many?! Oh the drama this week on Idle Chatter! This new episode kicks off with a power outage at Josh’s house from earlier in the day that interrupted his Batman time on Xbox. All the first word problems. All of them. The mood lightens, however, when the new Pee Wee movie on Netflix is discussed. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was consumed by Andrew weekly growing up and seeing him back on the screen, still holding his own, brings back the exact same unbridled joy as it did so many years ago. Check out this photo of Andrew’s wife’s very own Pee Wee doll that we found at her parent’s house. The Pee Wee runs deep in this household (that is wildly inappropriate sounding). The meat and potatoes of this episode, so to speak, pertained to an inevitable discussion about BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Can the Man of Steel be written well for the screen? Did Affleck do the Dark Knight justice? Was that Lex Luthor or the Riddler? Was the movie nearly as bad as the critics suggested? Find out what we thought. Mega Man Dan - Idle Chatter Episode 4
Mega Man – Idle Chatter Podcast We welcome back the one and only Dan to the show this week to chat about an important topic…. the Nintendo Entertainment System. More specifically, the first six MEGA MAN games that graced the NES. But before we could get to any of that, we had to take a step back in human evolution to chat about Dan’s personal life and how he chooses to spend his tax refund. Let’s say he visited a special place that Al Bundy frequented before he landed the gig on Modern Family. Does anyone out there know what a Double Dirty is? He explained it to me on the show, and I still have no clue. Mega Man 8-Bit – Idle Chatter Podcast Back to MEGA MAN! Dan and I grew up on the NES and spent countless hours playing platformers like Super Mario Bros. Probably around 1990, we both received MEGA MAN 3 for our birthdays. Dan got his first that year because he has a January birthday. I, the elder statesman, may have been older, but with a September birthday I had to wait almost 8 months to get my copy. Needless to say, Dan was pretty good at the game. I vividly remember the shake-ups to the platformer formula that MEGA MAN 3 (and the other MM games) provided. Firstly, Mega Man was a robot. Secondly, he had a projectile-shooting mega buster for an arm. Thirdly, each boss, or robot master, gave you his power when you beat him at the end of a highly distinctive stage. Lastly, and most mind blowingly (for me), the game allowed the player to choose which order to play the stages in. As we quickly learned, the robot masters had a weakness to the weapons of a specific other master in the game. It was advisable to learn the boss order but the game was flexible enough in design that you could complete the stages in any order if you were robot-boy enough for the task. As I’ve grown, I’ve come to like MEGA MAN 2 the best in the original series, while Dan still holds onto his love for part 3. We want to know from YOU! Which original Blue Bomber game is your favorite? Oh, and enjoy this episode! The Death of Physical Media – Idle Chatter Episode 3
Andrew and Josh discuss the end of times for DVD and Blu Ray Discs. Is it really coming? If so , when? Should we be as bummed as we are or are we just to sentimental and attached to our physical belongings? To kick off this third official episode, Josh makes mention of some highly influential leading man mustaches in movies. He then fuels his already entertaining thought train by making a suggestion. What if THE EXPENDABLES was made using actors who have iconic mustaches? What if it was called THE MUSTACHABLES? That, my friends, is a movie! Back to the topic. While physical copies of movies look to be phased out, what happens to the collectors out there, such as ourselves? Do we get a printable cover image with our download to put in an album? Do we get a digital photo file to carry on our cell phones to show our friends, like a proud new boyfriend with a selfie stick after a first date? Let us know what you think? We would venture to guess that folks who collect physical media will just be left in the dust…but, then again, maybe we’re just Debbie Downers. Enjoy this episode of Idle Chatter!
