IS Livestream - How Languages Change, Evolve, and Relate
Taken directly from youtube livetsream, so better there with the visual aids, but a good conversation nonethelessFind it on youtube and subscribe if you aren't already Today, I am joined by a Linguist to Discuss Language Typology. We are going to discuss how languages are related to each other, how we know, and why it's important. This discipline explores the historical changes in languages, examining how they evolve over time and the factors that influence these changes. It also looks at language contact and diffusion, which are processes where languages influence each other through interaction. This can happen through trade, migration, or even conquest, leading to the borrowing of words, sounds, and grammatical structures. By understanding linguistic typology, we can gain insights into the cultural and historical connections between different language-speaking communities. We will explore how languages can be classified into different types based on their structural features, such as syntax, morphology, and phonology. We will also delve into the concept of language families, which groups languages that have a common ancestral language. This discussion will highlight the importance of linguistic typology in tracing the migration patterns and cultural exchanges of ancient civilizations.https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar ONLY $2/MONTH Other Links: link.space/@Ill_ScholarDiscord, Twitter, Etc. 055 - Why an Italian Zoomer Converted to Buddhism
Why an Italian Zoomer Converted to BuddhismThis is the Illegitimate Scholar Podcast and this week I interview Theravada Buddhism practitioner, Angelo. Originating from Italy, Angelo narrates his transition from Catholicism to embracing Theravada Buddhism, discussing its practices, impact on morality, and viewpoints on gender roles, compared to Nichiren Buddhism and Westernized versions of the faith. The conversation extends to Angelo's critical view on abortion, political, and social concerns through a Buddhist lens. I address Buddhism's nuanced relationship with modern ideologies, debating its non-alignment with fixed political beliefs and detailing its influence on topics like immigration in Italy. It contrasts the allure of Buddhism in the West, its empirical approach through karma, and the vibrant Buddhist community across Italy, enriched by diverse practices and historical ties, including those to Julius Evola. The dialogue concludes by underscoring the importance of exploration and learning in understanding Buddhism's role in contemporary society and personal growth.00:00 Introduction 00:35 Italian Roots02:48 Why Buddhism?08:19 Nichiren Buddhism 20:44 Theravada Buddhism24:40 Buddhism in the West 34:03 Greek Influence on Buddhism39:04 Greco-Bactrian Hellenistic Art53:20 Mahayana Buddhist Influence on Gnosticism01:01:29 Pali Language01:07:41 Forest Monks01:11:23 Interrupt Myself01:11:47 City Monks01:17:38 Moinkas in the greater community01:21:53 Buddhism in Daily Life01:23:02 Western VS Traditional Buddhist Practices01:25:44 Abortion in Buddhism01:29:05 Dharma as Politics01:36:44 Italy and Immigration01:48:02 Global Influence of Buddhism01:57:25 Julius EvolaDiscord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholarAudio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

I discuss cultural diffusion, how how cultures spread over time. This is important to understanding why cultures change over time and recognize it when you see it historically or contemporarily. We discuss forced, direct, and indirect diffusion. These are the Mechanisms with which cultural diffusion happens. I then break down cultural diffusion to the five types, expansion diffusion, relocation diffusion, hierarchical diffusion, contagious diffusion, Stimulus Diffusion.Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholarAudio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

ISL 011 - Perception is reality, corporate culture w/ Brooke Sherwood
We have a woman on the show for a first time. DEI score officially going up. Loved this conversation with Brooke. She recently left a corporate job and is moving towards entrepreneurial pursuits. We discussed a few things including corporate culture and its positives and negatives. We talked about her journey leaving corporate culture and what she plans on doing now with the experience and connections she has. She has a unique perspective and a way with people and I probably talked too much, should have let her talk more. We will hear from her again!Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholarAudio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

041 - Architecture, Globalism, and taking Ls
In this episode I speak about the influences of Globalism in general and a few aspects of life and culture that globalism permeates, like language. We discuss globalism and its relation to architecture and how architecture is metaphoric of greater shifts in our culture happening as a result of globalization. The positives of globalization in architecture, business, and non-places of utility is discussed (airports, hospitals, McDonald's). Those are then countered with the negatives, such as a lack of local influence, soul-crushing efficiency, and one-size-fits-all approach. A discussion about what values go into these decisions is had, and then we finish with a discussion of examples of globalism and international business being a part of local architecture through McDonald's Restaurants and how that shows what we can do as a species into the future for a culture built for humans. ABOUT THIS SHOW
Our culture is in crisis and I don’t trust woke universities and authoritarian governments to give us the solution. I examine modern culture through history and anthropology, as well as other sources like indigenous knowledge and common sense. This is a show for those who love academics but hate academia, and want to learn about social studies without the constraining limits of woke universities. Reach me on Discord, https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6Jj and other sites: https://pod.link/1650280020, If you have any thoughts you'd like to share please email me: [email protected]
