In this episode, Mike and Holden dive into a wide range of hunting topics, starting with Mike’s recent waterfowl adventure in Canada—his first official hunt of this kind. Mike traveled to Saskatoon, where he had the incredible opportunity to hunt 8 different species of birds. Over the course of just 2 ½ days, his group of three hunters harvested over 120 birds. He shares the details of hunting sandhill cranes, snow geese, speckle-bellied geese, Ross’s geese, lesser and large Canadian geese, mallards, and pintails. Mike also highlights the differences between hunting waterfowl in the U.S. versus Canada, including navigating travel across the border with firearms and the process of bringing harvested birds back home. The conversation then shifts to their recent whitetail hunting experiences in Alabama and Georgia, with a focus on the Georgia rifle opener and the notable cold front that passed through the Southeast. Mike and Holden break down the importance of sitting until late morning during these conditions, as the changing thermals and day winds often cause bucks to adjust their bedding locations. In the latter part of the episode, they discuss some of the hot topics circulating in the hunting community, including the much-talked-about Alexander Buck—a massive 200-inch whitetail taken in Ohio under illegal circumstances—and the serious consequences that followed the improper harvest of this remarkable deer.Key Topics:Mike’s first waterfowl hunt in Saskatoon, Canada: 8 species and over 120 birds in 2 ½ days.Cross-border hunting logistics: traveling with firearms and bringing back harvested birds.A breakdown of species hunted: sandhill cranes, snow geese, speckle-bellied geese, Ross’s geese, lesser and large Canadian geese, mallards, and pintails.Whitetail hunting updates from Alabama and Georgia: Georgia rifle opener and the Southeast cold front.Importance of hunting into late morning as bucks shift bedding locations. The Alexander Buck controversy: a 200-inch whitetail illegally harvested in Ohio and the resulting consequences. This episode is packed with hunting insights and real-life experiences that will resonate with both waterfowl and whitetail hunters alike!Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 53: 12 Signs It's Time To Harvest More Does with Lindsay Thomas

In this episode, we dive into a common question for deer hunters and wildlife management organizations alike: How many does should you harvest? Managing deer populations for optimal health and balance between deer numbers and available forage is crucial. Here are the 12 key signs that indicate you may need to harvest more does than you have been:Full Buck Tags, Empty Doe Tags: A balanced harvest of one doe for every buck can prevent an unbalanced buck-to-doe ratio and overpopulation.Rattling and Grunt Calls Rarely Work: If bucks aren’t responding to calls, the buck-to-doe ratio may be too skewed toward does.Browse Lines: If deer strip vegetation up to a certain height, it’s a clear sign of overpopulation and inadequate forage.Older Does in the Harvest: The age distribution of harvested does can indicate whether you are under or over-harvesting them.Kidney Fat: Deer health can be gauged by fat levels around their kidneys. Sparse fat means poor health and a need for better habitat or more doe harvest.Food Plot Cages: Simple browse enclosures can show if your food plots are over-browsed, signaling a need for more forage or a reduced deer population.Deer Eating Poor Forage: When deer start eating low-quality, tough-to-digest plants, it’s a sign they are overpopulated for the available food. The Rut is a Dud: A lack of rut behaviors like buck fights or scrapes can be a sign that too many does are available, reducing competition.Non-Native Plants Rule: If your land is infested with non-native plants, it reduces the carrying capacity for deer, requiring a lower deer population.Internal Parasites Are Abundant: High levels of parasites in harvested deer signal poor health, likely caused by overpopulation.Tick-Infested Deer: Ticks thrive when deer populations are too dense, leading to health issues for deer and increased tick-borne diseases. You Hunt in a CWD Management Zone: Chronic Wasting Disease management zones require special consideration, and harvesting does is crucial to maintaining healthy deer populations and slowing the spread of the disease.Guest Info: Lindsay Thomas Jr., Chief Communications Officer of the National Deer Association (NDA), shares his expertise on deer management and the importance of proper doe harvest. Lindsay has over 20 years of experience in wildlife journalism and has been instrumental in educating hunters on sustainable hunting practices.Links & Resources:National Deer AssociationArticle: https://deerassociation.com/12-signs-you-should-harvest-more-does/Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 52: Talking to Non-Hunters about Hunting with Peter Churchbourne from the NRA

In this episode of the In Seezyn Podcast we talk with Peter Churchbourne, the Managing Director for the NRA Hunting Division and Hunters Leadership Forum, we discuss the groundbreaking work by the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum (NRA-HLF) and Responsive Management, and how they have conducted extensive research on Americans' attitudes toward hunting and hunters. This research, combined with insights from top debate strategists and communication specialists, has been distilled into a powerful book: How to Talk About Hunting. In addition to this book there is a series of 6 articles summarizing these principles in the American Hunter Magazine.     Peter talks to us about why the public opinion of hunting matters and outlines multiple strategies that hunters can use in conversation, and on social media to improve the support from the non-hunting public, which largely determines the future of hunting across the country.  Key Takeaways:The book is specifically designed for wildlife and conservation professionals to build support for hunting through persuasive and effective communication. It provides tools to address the public on topics like the historical role and modern benefits of hunting, backed by new social science research and proven communication strategies. With hunters representing less than 5% of the U.S. population, maintaining cultural acceptance of hunting is crucial for its future. The book emphasizes reaffirming shared values rather than changing minds. The research revealed that most Americans (79%) already have a positive attitude toward hunting, making it a matter of effectively communicating the value of hunting and conservation.Become a member of the NRA: https://membership.nra.org/MultiStep/JoinTodayLink to American Hunter article referenced in episode: https://www.americanhunter.org/content/how-to-talk-about-hunting/Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 46: Nothing Stings Like a Wasp

Welcome back to episode 46 of the In Seezyn Podcast, on this episode we talk with Fred from Wasp Archery. NOTHING PENETRATES OR DEVASTATES LIKE A WASP. In a world where more broadheads are sold because of who shoots them than how well they perform, it’s time to reconsider what’s on the end of your arrow. No manufacturer claims their broadheads are weaker, less accurate or less devastating. So how can Wasp definitively say their broadheads are unsurpassed in strength, accuracy and penetration? Here’s how:Wasp made the world’s first commercially available replaceable blade broadheadOver 45 years of American innovationReplacement blades included with most broadheadsWasp products are loaded with time-tested technical features that deliver proven performance on every shotA true trocar tip that creates a sharp, strong leading edge for the blades to followTough broadheads that resist bending and breaking even on contact against hard surfacesCheck out WASP broadheads at Cut on Contact Broadheads | Wasp Archery and use code ISP2024 to save 20%Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 45: Take The Guessing Out of Aging Your Deer with DeerAge

On Episode 45 of the In Seezyn Podcast we talk with Heather Stevens, owner and operator of DeerAge. Heather has an extensive scientific background specializing in animal histology and Chad has over 20 years in the hunting industry as a taxidermist and avid bow hunter. Together they make the perfect pair to run DeerAge bringing together backgrounds that ensure they understand your needs as a customer. DeerAge is ALL ABOUT ACCURACY. Traditional aging methods like eruption-wear aging is common but has been scientifically proven to be inaccurate and an unreliable source of data in managing wildlife. In a study performed by Montana Fish and Wildlife, eruption-wear aging resulted in 62% accuracy for mule deer, 43% in whitetails and 36% in elk. Cementum annuli aging yields 93%, 85%, and 97% in mule deer whitetails and elk respectively. What is CEMENTUM ANNULI AGING you might ask.......The basis for cementum annuli aging is the cyclic nature of cementum deposits on the roots of mammals’ teeth each year, which results in a pattern of “rings” in the tooth. Its similar to aging the rings on a tree. Abundant lightly staining cementum is formed in the growth season and dark staining “rings” form during the winter season. This provides a clear and accurate assessment of how many winters an animal has been alive.Heather and the team at DeerAge offer an incredible service with elite level accuracy at an affordable cost. Product Spotlight: "Forget Genetics", and focus on Nutrition

Welcome back to the In Seezyn Podcast, it is the middle of June, Turkey season is over, deer are putting some bone on, and this is the perfect time to talk about whitetail deer, getting inventory on this year's hit list, getting mineral out, prepping stand locations, prepping food plot sights. Today we have a product spotlight for you. We are talking with Barry from Forget Genetics. We met Barry at the Great American outdoor show and recording this episode before the start of turkey season just as we were moving into the new studio. We decided to hold this episode until the content was more relevant to what we are all doing in the woods, but we are dropping it now.Forget Genetics is a family and veteran owned company that specializes in Deer Feed, Supplements, and Attractants. Barry and his family have created a unique product that isn’t the same as every other mineral that you can buy at the local farm store. There is a lot of research and science that went into each aspect of the Forget Genetics line. I can appreciate the name Forget Genetics, for the regular listeners they will remember an episode we did with Lindsay Thomas from the NDA, and he talked about the things that impact antler growth. Genetics, age and nutrition, but you can't manage for genetics, not in the wild deer herd or in a high fence environment. So Barry made it really simple for us, just forget genetics and focus on nutrition. Some of you live in states where you can feed out of season, but you can't bait, some people can't use mineral or supplemental feed and some of you live in regions where you can put out mineral, supplemental feed, and bait. Some people hunt over bait, some people use feed to improve the health of their herd but don’t want to hunt over it, and all of those things are fine, hunt how you want as long as its legal! Your situation and style might be different than someone else's, it doesn’t make it better or worse. We hope you enjoy this product spotlight with Barry from Forget Genetics.  Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 41: Mass Pursuit TV with Spanish Mack

Welcome back to the In Seezyn Podcast, this week's episode is with Wilbur Ramos AKA Spanish Mack the host of Mass Pursuit TV, Mass Pursuit is an outdoor TV program that will go anywhere to HUNT or Fish. These Guys Work Hard and Hunt even Harder. They specialize in hunting mature bucks throughout the country, while also hunting hogs, turkeys, sport fishing and to be honest whatever else is “In Seezyn”. These guys are top notch hunters who work hard for a living with a passion for the outdoors which makes their content super relatable to all of us, unlike many of the other TV shows that are out there. They show that real hunters with modest incomes can chase their dreams of harvesting a big mature buck or hooking up a black fin tuna or chase whatever dreams you might have. We met Spanish Mack and the Mass Pursuit TV team at NWTF convention and just like many of you they will be wearing Treezyn in the woods this fall. You can watch the hunts with Spanish Mac and mass pursuit TV on Carbon TV, the hunt channel, and the pursuit channel. Hunting | Pursuit Channel | Mass Pursuit TVContact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 40: "The Inside Connection to Outdoor Legislation" with Conner Barker

Welcome back to Episode 40 of the In Seezyn Podcast, we really enjoyed talking with Conner Barker this week, Conner is the Southeastern States Coordination for the Congressional Sportsman Foundation, otherwise known as the CSF. We dive deep into hunting advocacy, legislative issues that impact the rights of hunter and anglers across the country. Everything from fighting against bills that are proposed by antihunters, sandhill crane hunting in TN, ballet initiatives in Colorado that could ban trophy hunting, which could stop all big game hunting in Colorado, a ballet initiative in Oregon to potential prohibit the taking of all animals, this would make it illegal to hunt any species in the entire state, as well as initiatives pushing for hunters education in public schools across the country. Connor is a wealth of information, and it was really interesting to better understand how we can protect the rights that we have as hunters across the country and impact sporting conservation policy. The CSF has a weekly newsletter that can keep you informed about issues in your state, region or across the country, I encourage everyone to sign up for that to stay informed and prevent you from finding these things out after it's too late.**Check out some of the links below that we mentioned throughout the podcast. Ep 39: Chasing the Turkey Slam with Phillip Green and Richard Fleming

Welcome back to the in Seezyn podcast, this episode is releasing a little later in the week than we usually do, we have multiple episodes recording that are more habitat, advocacy and deer related but we had a really good turkey episode we recorded last night and we thought it would be more appropriate to get this one out first as a lot of states are near the end of turkey season. Richard Fleming and Phillip Green joined us today, both of these guys are  Treezyn field staffers that are based in Alabama. Phillip is a die hard turkey hunter and spends a lot of time on habitat for turkeys, we talked about prescribed fire, specific planting strategies for turkeys in your food plots, predator control and a lot of different strategies to make your property better for turkeys. Phillip is chasing the US slam breaks down hunting different species of turkeys, hunting in many different states and the process that went into him planning out of state trips for turkey hunting. We really enjoyed talking to these guys and learned a lot that we can hopefully implement at the property we hunt in Alabama. We will definitely get these guys back on throughout the year to talk more about the habitat work they have been doing. We hope you enjoy this episode of the In Seezyn Podcast with Phillip Green and Richard FlemingContact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com

Ep 38: Double Spurred with Grant Tucker

Welcome back to episode 38 of the In Seezyn Podcast, we have a few Georgia Boys on the podcast today. We came across Grant Tucker after reading an article in the Georgia Outdoor News about a 19 year old who shot his first turkey that was extremely rare. A genetic mutation that caused this bird to have double spurs on each side. There are only 2 dozen reported cases on this type of mutation across the country. Grant talks about some of the struggles of getting on his first turkey, and how a family friend Lanier was able to help him close the deal. Lanier drops multiple tactics throughout the podcast and shares some experiences from hunting turkeys across the county. Turkeys are always cool to talk about but rare turkeys like this one are even cooler! click here to read the full article from GON: Gobbler With Double Spurs On Each Leg Taken In South Georgia - Georgia Outdoor News (gon.com)Contact In Seezyn PodcastEngage with us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=in%20seezyn%20podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/inseezynpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@in.seezyn.podcastEmail us at: [email protected] Shop Treezyn Camo at:  https://treezyn.com/Nothing stings like a WASP: Save 20% on WASP broadheads with code ISP2025 at www.wasparchery.comDeerAge: Save 20% at Deerage.com with code ISP20NiceTargets: Save 25% on Targets using code SEEZYN25 at www.nicetargets.comRax Game Lures: Check out their lineup of attractants and cover scents at Raxgamelures.com
