Episode 52 Who blinks first? Iran's Asymmetric Warfare Against Israel-US Conventional Strategy

India Rising: Strategic Affairs Conversations with Mohal and Kishor @mohaljoshi @veggiediplomat The United States and Israel have attacked Iran and eliminated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, thinking that Iran will fold much like Venezuela. Iran, on the contrary, has upped the ante and caused widespread destruction to not just the United States and Israel but to all US allies in the region. This asymmetric warfare approach by Iran seems to be acting like a perfect foil to the conventional war strategy adopted by Israel and the United States. Episode 34 1 Year Since LAC Skirmish

India Rising: Strategic Affairs Conversations with Mohal and Kishor @mohaljoshi @veggiediplomat A year ago during the summer of 2020 when the world in general and India specifically was reeling under the full brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic, the soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) came up to the Line of Actual Control to occupy strategic areas across the perceived LAC (Line of Actual Control) just as the snow was melting during the summer months. It’s been a year now and instead of the situation easing off, we have heard of soldiers from both sides digging their heels. The fact that the issue isn’t grabbing the headlines doesn’t mean that the issue has gone away. Episode 33 Israel Hamas Conflict

India Rising: Strategic Affairs Conversations with Mohal and Kishor @mohaljoshi @veggiediplomat The month of Ramadan is generally tense in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Arabs wish to pray in the Al Aqsa mosque which is situated in the walled Old City. And fearing unrest, Israel deploys its defence forces to control the crowds who come to pray over there. This year was no different. However, what added to the already tense situation was the verdict about the ownership of land in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem in addition to the Jerusalem Day celebrations planned by ultra right wing parties in Israel. This led to a highly volatile situation which was milked by the Hamas militant group in a rather unexpected fashion. In this episode we dig deep into what triggered the crisis and what was India’s stand in the whole situation. Episode 23 - The Return of the Rajapaksas

India Rising: Strategic Affairs Conversations with Mohal and Kishor @mohaljoshi @veggiediplomat The Rajapaksas are back in style in Sri Lanka. While the younger brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa won the Presidential election winning handsomely against Sajith Premadasa, the elder brother Mahinda Rajapaksa is now the caretaker Prime Minister until the next Parliamentary elections after the incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe resigned after the loss in the Presidential elections. We try to find the answers to the following questions: • Was the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the recently concluded Presidential Elections in Sri Lanka a foregone conclusion? • With the younger brother as the President, is the elder brother Mahinda Rajapaksa’s bid to unquestioned political supremacy in the island nation unchecked? • Is there a possible danger of the island getting entangled in Sinhala nationalism? • What happens to the goodwill projects carried out by India to help Sri Lankan Tamils to rebuild after the bloody civil war? • Will the Indian fishermen be targeted and killed for crossing into Sri Lankan waters just like how they were during the previous Rajapaksa regime? • More importantly, was Delhi prepared for a Rajapaksa return? • Does Delhi have a gameplan to keep the Rajapaksas on a leash without conceding too much to Beijing? • In the wake of the deadly Easter bombings, will there be greater security cooperation between Delhi and Colombo? • What does the speed at which India dispatched its Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar to Colombo to invite Rajapaksa to New Delhi indicate? • With Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe resigning as Prime Minister, will Sri Lanka see the top 2 posts in the country being run by 2 brothers? India Rising: Strategic Affairs Conversations with Mohal and Kishor @mohaljoshi @veggiediplomat This week Chinese President Xi Jinping visited South Indian city of Chennai for an informal summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was the second edition of the informal summits that China and India are having, with the first one happening in 2018 in China in the city of Wuhan – hence, gaining the name ‘Wuhan Spirit’. We try to find the answers to the following questions about ''Chennai Connect': ● Did Modi and Xi manage to revive the now-dead now-alive Wuhan Spirit? ● Has New Delhi managed to drive home the point about it’s redlines to Beijing? ● Does India and China have enough modalities to work on improving their ties in the next 12 months? ● Is it too early to claim that Chennai Connect was a huge success without talking about tangible benefits? This week US President Donald Trump announced through Twitter that peace talks with Taliban were off and that he was still thinking about a troop drawdown from Afghanistan. So we find an answer to these questions: • Is the US Taliban deal really dead? • Did US President Trump actually plan to invite Taliban terrorists to Camp David, the official retreat of the President of the United States? • Is the Afghan government happy that the deal is now more or less cancelled? • Will the US government continue to send feelers to the Taliban? • What will the Taliban’s reaction to all this be? • More importantly, should India be happy with the developments?
