Indus Rush

Bonjour tout le monde! Guten Tag allerseits! and Sawasdee Khrap! Here's where I post early versions of songs on the planning board TO SEE THE REACTION OF EVERYBODY. Feel free to message me about any of them. The new album coming in the near future is The Road Ahead, so these are the songs in very early versions. No doubt they will have changed a bit by the time the album is released. Please visit me on my Facebook page at the obvious address, and share the songs or albums already published. Thanks for visiting my Soundcloud profile.....here's a little history: Signed by Nub Music in 2015, here are Indus Rush's first and second albums of Rock songs, Orchestrations and Tunes interwoven with synths and guitars, musical tales and anecdotes influenced by travels from the shores of Koh Samui, through the Asian sub-continent to the hills of Southern Scotland. In short, music for all generations. The second album, "Himalayan Suite & Other Tales", is a loose concept album strung with intermitt

    Jah Say (The Rastafarian Way)

Early stages of new track...thinking about some ladies backing vocals on "Jah say" lines and other male singer for second line. As yet unfinished and just in idea stage...Anyone want to help with suggestions or anything else, is ok...message me.

    Where's The Mouse (Mix 1)

Another experimental track using a basic riff on Endless on my iPhone, and then bringing it into Logic Pro X. Ithen used mainly sounds from Synthmaster 1 and a bit of Massive as well.

I'd Share It With You (Instrumental)

An instrumental version of the song "I'd Share it with You". Mastered Sept 17th 2019

    Romany Days (Album edit)

This song was written after reading The Return of the Native, by Hardy, when I was still at High School. It inspired me to write these lyrics about the travelling country life of the gypsy caravaners who used to travel the country lanes in the UK and Ireland in the early part of the last century.

    Himalayan Suite - Annapurna

One of my personal favourites, this one written here at home in Dalbeattie. I love the analogue synth parts in unison with the bass guitar. Then at the end, some nice acoustic guitar.

  6. 18

    Pink Garlic

Instrumental written in the style of 60's track Green Onions by Booker T and the MG's. Has a nice guitar break in the middle of it, and it's quite rocky without trying. It stems from a practical formula I use a lot. A good 'live' track, coz the guys get to solo a lot, which we all enjoy!

  7. 17

Himalayan Suite - Appointment In Samara

Another song written in Hospital era, winter 2016 - 17. Samara is further on than the Himalayas, but the silk road passes through it, and the armies of Alexander, etc came that way on their way to conquer India. The title relates to a story about avoiding fate, which of course, you can't.

  8. 16

    Encinitas Break (Album edit)

My son took me over to California, to San Diego, and I loved it. My friends from Encinitas and Laguna Beach showed us around, and we had a great visit. I watched some surfers at the Swarmi's place in Encinitas and it reminded me of when I used to surf in West Africa. One of my greatest inspirations is Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, so I combined my visit and my love of Brian's work and came up with this modern Surf song, dedicated to the Beach Boys.

  9. 15

    Claire

I wrote this song a long time ago when I lived in Aix en Provence, France. The girl I was trying to date was Claire, a French Belle, but it never happened. A very short song, but a nice tune all the same.

  10. 14

    Lost Quarter (Album edit)

Well, this has got to be the most difficult song I've ever had to work on, and definatley the longest I've ever worked on a song. It was recorded badly, so getting back up to a presentable edit was very hard. The song was written after the first Gulf war, so now the words have changed a lot to make it more current. It's anti war, anti violence, anti daesh, and a little left wing politically.

  11. 13

    Himalayan Suite - Red Sky

I found myself on a Hospital Bed, surrounded by 3 guys who were all worse off than myself, and I had throat cancer! I didn't really know any of them, but I would get to know them gradually. I sat on the bed with an iPad, and a set of Headphones, and put together this piece of music. I abandoned it after a while, and thought of it as a Soundtrack to a video of something in the future. Then I began to like it, made a few minor adjustments, and here it is...

  12. 12

    Waterfall Dance

Song written from a 12 string guitar finger picking exercise I still do when I play a 12 string guitar. Although the Guitar's in normal tuning, the G chord really rings, and you can play it down from the top of the neck right down to the bottom G, on the 2 E strings. The words came to me as I recorded it in the studio.

  13. 11

    Himalayan Suite - Pts 1 & 2

A child speaks of his desire to travel, in personal dreams and introduces the Himalayan Suite. Thereafter follows the voices of the southern Himalayas, as we venture into the musical mysticism of the north Indian sub continent. Strange voices in a strange land, different sounds, languages, all done to a great Dance beat!

  14. 10

Indus Rush - Land Of Smiles - Remastered

Song about flying out of Bangkok on Emirates returning to Scotland via Dubai after living 20 years in the Land of Smiles, aka Thailand.

  15. 9

    Crackin' Up (Second Single)

2nd Single Crackin' Up is written by Tom Clelland, and is about the turmoil of life I would say. It's taken a few forms over the years and I eventually recorded it in this format with brass instead of voices.

  16. 8

    Mandingo

New Production of songs from my journey from the East back to the West after 20 years of another lifestyle and culture, and what I found when I returned to Scotland.

The Market Place / Mandingo (First Single)

‘Indus Rush’ is the brainchild of musician and producer, Stephen Whitby, recorded with session players over the Internet, and mixed down and produced by Steve in his Dalbeattie Studio. Taken from the forthcoming album ‘From The East Down to The West’, The Market Place/Mandingo are two parts of an unfinished trilogy of songs about Iraq. The Market Place was inspired by Stephen’s experiences in Asia/The Middle East; the music and lyrics painting an atmospheric picture of the Souks and Bazaars and Stephen’s vocals bringing a melancholic longing to the piece. Despite the vast difference in environments and settings, The Market Place is fundamentally about how similar social interactions are across the world in coffee shops from Goa to Glasgow, but it’s Stephen’s time spent travelling that has helped him create his unique perspective on the world. Stephen has spent the last 30 years travelling across the world and playing with a variety of famous musicians (including Adrian Fisher from Sparks, David Glasper and Ian “Spike” Spice from Breathe, Sparko from Doctor Feelgood and Mathew Kelly of Kingfish & The Grateful Dead) on a glorious beachfront setting called Secret Garden, on Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand. He moved back to Scotland in 2008: ‘Upon returning to Scotland it’s taken a few years to get settled and organised, but now I’m starting to be creative again, and so here are a few songs from over the years, some old, some new, but all of them being relevant in my move from Asia to Scotland, hence “From The East Down to The West.” https://www.facebook.com/IndusRush
