EP66: Commentary of JohnChat_EP65 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This Episode is the commentary of JohnChat_EP63 by NotebookLM Deep Dive. This episode features an interview with Coach Lee Chung-chieh, a dedicated wrestling coach at Kaohsiung Hai-Ching Vocational High School who has spent nearly two decades mentoring vulnerable youth. The discussion highlights how Lee and his colleague, Coach Chang, provide more than just athletic training by offering a stable home and residential support for students facing difficult family circumstances. Many of these children come from broken homes or live with elderly grandparents who cannot supervise them, leading the coaches to personally fund housing and provide daily meals. The host emphasizes the importance of this social safety net, noting that Lee’s intervention prevents at-risk teenagers from entering the juvenile justice system. To sustain this mission, the program relies on community donations of essential goods such as eggs, milk powder, and specialized wrestling shoes. Ultimately, the source serves as both a tribute to Lee’s selfless devotion and a call for public support to help these young athletes build better futures. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP64: Commentary of JohnChat_EP63 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This Episode is the commentary of JohnChat_EP61 by NotebookLM Deep Dive. This podcast transcript features a dialogue between John, a mathematically-inclined academic who avoids gambling, and Yu-Wei, a professional lottery vendor and active gambler, as they discuss the psychological traps and cultural nuances of casino gambling. Yu-Wei shares personal stories of significant financial losses in South Korea, attributing his failure to a loss of self-control fueled by the convenience of credit card transactions. The dialogue contrasts gambling environments across Macau, Singapore, and Las Vegas, noting differences in table minimums, player superstitions, and the use of technology like facial recognition. While John remains a staunch critic of gambling, Yu-Wei explains it as a high-stakes hobby that provides a unique sense of excitement and achievement. Ultimately, the speakers warn against the dangers of online gambling and the "martingale" strategy, emphasizing that the house always maintains a mathematical advantage. Consistent with the theme of responsible leisure, they suggest enjoying casino hubs for their food and entertainment rather than the games. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP62: Commentary of JohnChat_EP61 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This Episode is the commentary of JohnChat_EP61 by NotebookLM Deep Dive. This podcast transcript features a dialogue between John, a mathematically-inclined academic who avoids gambling, and Yu-Wei, a professional lottery vendor and active gambler. They examine the psychological and commercial strategies used by casinos, such as windowless designs, loyalty points, and the use of chips to distance players from the reality of losing money. The speakers explain Flow Theory, describing how gambling environments induce an altered state of consciousness that causes individuals to lose track of time and rational judgment. Yu-Wei provides practical insights into risk management, suggesting that gamblers set strict stop-loss limits and intentionally slow their pace of play to mitigate losses. Ultimately, the discussion highlights the mathematical disadvantage of the player, emphasizing that even "winnable" games are designed with a built-in house edge. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP60: Commentary of JohnChat_EP59 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This episode of "JohnChat" (Episode 60) introduces the "Youth Overseas Dream Fund" launched by the Ministry of Education's Youth Development Administration to enhance the international competitiveness and creativity of Taiwanese youth aged 15 to 30. The host highlights two specific programs under the "Overseas Seedling" category, which provides pre-planned project frameworks for eligible participants to join. The first program, "Accessible Journey: Camino de Santiago Dream-Building Program (J-S-62)," is designed for high school students aged 15 to 18 and involves a 17-day trip to Spain in July to walk the final 100 kilometers of the pilgrimage and visit accessibility institutions, with approximately 500,000 TWD invested per person. The second program, "Sports Equality Dream (I-8-15)," is for youth aged 18 to 30 and features a trip to Hawaii in October to observe the IRONMAN World Championship and exchange ideas on accessible sports, supported by a 510,000 TWD subsidy. Both programs emphasize social inclusion by reserving specific spots for youth with various disabilities, their siblings, and those dedicated to disability rights. Because the application deadline is in April and requires significant preparation, the host urges interested listeners to apply as soon as possible via the official program website. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP58: Commentary of JohnChat_EP57 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This episode of the podcast continues the special series on the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage, featuring Dr. Hsu Yi-teng to discuss practical preparations and the necessary mindset for people with disabilities and the elderly joining this spiritual journey. Key highlights of this episode include: The "Heaven Helps Those Who Help Themselves" Mindset: While the pilgrimage is known for its warmth—illustrated by an anecdote of a girl with Down Syndrome being cared for by "messengers sent by Mazu"—Dr. Hsu emphasizes that participants with special needs should avoid "princess syndrome". Instead, they should strive to be "good guests" by being self-disciplined and making the best possible preparations rather than expecting others to serve them entirely. Physical and Mental Training: Preparation should begin early. Dr. Hsu suggests starting with one-hour walks and gradually increasing duration, eventually practicing with a backpack weighing less than one-tenth of one's body weight. Mentally, participants (especially the elderly) should practice using smartphones and the Baishatun GPS App to track the divine sedan's location. Essential Gear for Success: To prevent blisters, walkers are encouraged to test different shoes and consider five-toe socks. For those using manual wheelchairs, specialized gear like well-fitted baseball gloves (specifically catcher's style) is recommended to provide better friction and protect hands from blisters. Navigating Logistics (The "Three Urgencies"): The sources provide detailed advice on managing restroom breaks by utilizing gas stations, public offices, and accessible portable toilets. For those with higher needs, adult diapers are a practical consideration. Regarding accommodation, Dr. Hsu suggests a "group support car" model, where a dedicated vehicle shuttles participants to accessible hotels within a 30–45 minute drive of the pilgrimage route. Advocacy for Accessibility: The episode calls upon temple authorities and the government to improve accessibility infrastructure, such as installing non-slip flooring, sit-down toilets, and ramps, ensuring that elderly devotees who have supported the temple for a lifetime can still participate. Strategic Exit and Safety: To avoid the most congested crowds, participants are advised to avoid peak departure and arrival times. For wheelchair users, train stations are the preferred "retreat points" due to better accessibility compared to buses. Dr. Hsu concludes by encouraging participants to share their experiences after the event to help others with similar conditions find the courage to begin their own journey. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP56: Commentary of JohnChat_EP55 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This is a special episode dedicated to making the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage accessible for people with disabilities and the elderly. The guest, Dr. Hsu Yi-teng, who recently completed his PhD thesis on the participation of middle-aged and elderly people with physical disabilities in walking pilgrimages, joins the host to discuss how those with physical limitations can fulfill their dreams of participating in the upcoming 2026 Baishatun Pilgrimage. Key highlights of this episode include: • Translating Academic Research into Community Support: Dr. Hsu shares his motivation for turning years of academic observation into accessible information. He aims to give back to the community that supported his research by helping more people understand the challenges and rewards of the pilgrimage. • Diverse and Flexible Participation Strategies: For wheelchair users or seniors with limited stamina, the episode suggests practical strategies such as segmented participation, using GPS tracking to avoid heavy crowds, and coordinating with support vehicles ("baby cars") to handle charging needs and luggage. It even touches upon "virtual synchronization" for those unable to be there physically. • Breaking Social Stigmas and Mental Barriers: The speakers emphasize that participating in religious activities is a fundamental human right and should not be restricted by outdated labels like "bad karma" or the fear of being a "burden". They encourage everyone to pursue "spiritual health" regardless of physical disability. • Preliminary Planning for the 2026 Pilgrimage: With the pilgrimage set to begin on April 12, 2026, the episode offers tailored advice for working professionals and those with limited energy. For instance, taking leave on Friday, April 17, allows one to experience the core "Entering Fire" ceremony in Beigang and the high-energy return leg. • Practical Preparation and Training: The hosts stress that a pilgrimage without preparation is a "reckless adventure". They recommend starting physical training early (such as during the Lunar New Year) by walking with weighted backpacks and testing essential gear like shoes, five-toe socks, or specialized gloves for manual wheelchair users. "Everyone has the right to pursue their faith." Whether you are a young person with a disability looking to challenge yourself or a senior who has followed Mazu for a lifetime but now faces mobility issues, this episode provides the courage and practical tools needed to take that first step. If you are interested in specific tips for physical training or managing logistics like accessibility on the road, stay tuned for the next episode on "Pilgrimage Secrets" -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP54: Commentary of JohnChat_EP53 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Welcome to *JohnChat! *In this episode, we are delighted to welcome a special guest, Yu-Hsuan Chou (pen name: Ainsley Chou), who has recently graduated from the Graduate Institute of Language and Creative Writing at National Taipei University of Education. For more information about her work, please visit: https://mochifish407.wixsite.com/ainsley-art https://artogo.co/zh-TW/exhibition/Ainsley https://www.tba.tw/artists/946 Yu-Hsuan has previously been an important advocate for Adapted Physical Education (APE) in Taiwan. She contributed to the planning and promotion of nationwide touring microfilm exhibitions and photography competitions, dedicated to safeguarding every student’s equal right to participate in physical education. In this episode, Yu-Hsuan shares her rich and multifaceted creative world. Beginning with her digital illustration series Backstage of the Landing Circus, she introduces listeners to a set of distinctive animal figures—such as the Hide-and-Seek Elephant, the Borrowed-Body Panda, and the Mona Crocodile. Through these imaginative images, she invites audiences to observe the world with pure curiosity, rather than rushing to judgment. She has also collaborated with the New Big Wheel Association on the design of postcard projects, using warm visual narratives to challenge public stereotypes toward street vendors with disabilities, while exploring the aspirations of people with disabilities for independent living and a co-living community. Looking ahead, Yu-Hsuan is preparing to pursue doctoral studies, with the goal of articulating a history of disability literature in Taiwan, tracing the evolving vitality of disability representations within literary contexts. She is also in the process of envisioning the establishment of a boundary-breaking creative collective, tentatively titled The Lost Society, which seeks to transcend temporal and spatial limitations and invite broader public participation in diverse forms of creative practice. Curious to learn how Yu-Hsuan explores bodily fluidity through drawing and writing, and how she challenges entrenched social frameworks surrounding disability? EP52: Commentary of JohnChat_EP51 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Welcome to the 2026 season premiere of JohnChat. Yu-Hsuan (pen name: Ainsley Chou) is a creator with a deep passion for literature, painting, and imagination. She lives with a rare congenital condition, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and has long relied on a powered wheelchair for mobility, with daily living supported by her family. Relevant information and selected works can be found at: https://mochifish407.wixsite.com/ainsley-art https://artogo.co/zh-TW/exhibition/Ainsley https://www.tba.tw/artists/946 In her academic trajectory, Yu-Hsuan graduated in 2020 from the Department of Special Education at National Taiwan Normal University. Although deeply interested in special education, she encountered significant challenges during her practicum, particularly in addressing students’ complex emotional and behavioral needs, which she felt were difficult to navigate given her relatively limited life experiences. As a result, she decided to shift her academic focus toward the field she felt most passionate about—literature. She obtained her Master’s degree in Language and Creative Writing from National Taipei University of Education in January 2026. Her master’s thesis, titled Writing Depression in Modern Taiwanese Poetry, examines how persons with disabilities have often been represented in literary works not as subjects in their own right, but rather as narrative devices or metaphors that serve plot development. Through an analysis of poetic works by writers experiencing depressive symptoms, Yu-Hsuan proposes the concept of “in-betweenness”, exploring how poets continuously traverse and permeate the liminal boundaries between illness (abnormality) and health (normality), as well as between death and life. Currently, Yu-Hsuan is preparing to pursue doctoral studies, with the aspiration to further excavate and “reclaim” the overlooked fragments of disability literature within literary history, and to develop a scholarly research framework of her own. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP50: Commentary of JohnChat_EP49 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Key Insight If sport equity is conceived as a bridge, Japan’s policy framework can be understood as constructing robust access roads on both ends: on one side, highly calibrated governmental policy guidance; on the other, long-term corporate career commitments. Together, these structures enable athletes to transition securely from the competitive arena into broader social participation. Episode Overview Welcome to JohnChat. This episode continues the in-depth discussion from the previous installment, featuring two doctoral researchers—Rong-Yu Fan, a Ministry of Education–funded doctoral student at the University of Tsukuba, and Han-Lin Yeh, a doctoral candidate at National Taiwan Normal University—who engage in a comparative analysis of sport equity policies and practices in Japan and Taiwan. Fan provides a detailed examination of Japan’s well-established athlete employment system, which delineates athletic careers into three primary pathways: full-time training, dual-track arrangements combining employment and training, and post-retirement transition into corporate roles. Central to this system is Japan’s enduring emphasis on lifetime employment, which allows athletes with disabilities not only to extend their competitive careers but also to leverage their resilience and discipline as corporate representatives or specialized professionals. The conversation further addresses how Japan’s Sports Agency operationalizes policy through clearly defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), strategically allocating public funding to private corporations and non-profit organizations—such as NHK and Yamaha—to deliver large-scale sport expos and elite competitions. These initiatives are supported by evidence-based research and big-data analytics, reinforcing the promotion of sport participation across the population. In reflecting on Taiwan’s newly established Ministry of Sports, Yeh and host John consider how Japan’s model may offer valuable reference points—particularly in designing incentive structures that encourage corporate engagement in career planning for athletes with disabilities, and in fostering the concept of “inclusive membership” as a socially embedded norm rather than a policy mandate. In this vision, sport functions not merely as physical activity, but as a social bridge capable of transcending structural and cultural barriers.

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP48: Commentary of JohnChat_EP47 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Welcome to the 2026 season premiere of JohnChat. This episode features an in-depth scholarly dialogue with two emerging experts in the field of Adapted Physical Education (APE): Rong-Yu Fan, a doctoral student at the University of Tsukuba and a Deaflympics national badminton athlete, and Han-Lin Yeh, a doctoral candidate at National Taiwan Normal University, former Universiade national team athlete, and a key advocate of Taiwan’s Adapted Physical Education initiatives. Currently supported by a Japanese government scholarship, Fan offers first-hand, practice-based observations from educational settings in Japan. Yeh, drawing on five to six years of sustained engagement in Taiwan’s adapted physical education programs, engages Fan in a comparative Taiwan–Japan dialogue that critically examines both structural and cultural dimensions of APE implementation. Key themes explored in this episode include: (1) Differences in inclusive education approaches between Taiwan and Japan—Fan observes that Japanese schools do not foreground “inclusion” as a formal label, but rather prioritize cultivating students’ intrinsic enjoyment of physical activity; even within general education classrooms, considerable emphasis is placed on providing appropriate and reasonable accommodations. (2) Professionalization of special needs education in Japan—special support schools demonstrate a high degree of institutional maturity, with career and lifelong health planning discussed with families as early as the first year of elementary school, informing the provision of high-frequency physical education to systematically build physical capacity. (3) Teacher preparation and certification systems—Japan’s long-established Para Sports Instructor certification emphasizes foundational instructional competencies rather than Paralympic-specific events, with professional development commonly scheduled on weekends, reflecting a culture of self-discipline and broad civic participation. (4) The imperative of differentiated instruction—both scholars concur that physical education teachers must possess the capacity for differentiated pedagogy, grounded in empathy and professional expertise, to ensure meaningful participation and benefit for students with diverse needs. Through this reflective yet analytically grounded conversation, the episode underscores that beyond formal policy frameworks, shared cultural understandings and robust professional support systems are critical to the sustainable development of adapted physical education. Understanding the Taiwan–Japan contrasts in APE is akin to observing the growth of the same plant in different soils: while nutrient distribution and pruning practices may vary, the ultimate objective remains the same—to enable human potential to flourish in a healthy and holistic manner. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP46: Commentary of JohnChat_EP45 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

In this episode of John Chat EP45, we welcome Gu Min, founder of the barefoot shoe brand Feebees Barefoot Shoes, who shares his distinctive entrepreneurial journey and footwear philosophy. Gu Min began by making first-walker shoes for children and eventually went on to develop barefoot shoes for adults. The brand has now been established for 12 years. The core design philosophy of barefoot shoes is to minimize restrictions on the natural movement and development of the feet, in contrast to conventional footwear that constrains movement through rigid structures. The soles are soft and fully flexible, allowing wearers to bend the shoe completely and to perceive the ground more clearly while walking. This creates an experience similar to barefoot training, while still providing protection and preventing the risks associated with walking barefoot on modern, hazardous surfaces. Gu Min is committed to creating a new lineage and school of footwear design, firmly believing that shoes should adapt to the feet—rather than forcing feet to adapt to shoes. He also speaks openly about the major challenges encountered during product development and entrepreneurship, including severe financial pressure (at times feeling deeply discouraged due to cash-flow losses), being reported by competitors and fined by government authorities (with single fines reaching NTD 600,000), and the tens of millions in trial-and-error costs during the early stages of the business. He treats these setbacks as part of everyday life, confronting them with a fighter’s mindset. For Gu Min, the greatest sense of achievement comes from seeing customers improve their lives through wearing his shoes—something he considers far more meaningful than simply selling footwear. Ultimately, he hopes his products can serve as a creative medium for dialogue with the Taiwanese public. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP44: Commentary of JohnChat_EP43 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This podcast is the Commentary of JohnChat_EP43, we invite Gu-Ming Chen, founder of Feebees Sock Shoes, for an in-depth conversation about how he transformed from a successor in a traditional industry into the pioneer of a distinctive barefoot-inspired footwear brand. He introduces Feebees sock shoes—designed to simulate walking barefoot while wearing shoes, enabling the body to engage more joints and muscle groups during movement, much like early humans did, and thereby promoting more natural muscular activation. Gu-Ming also candidly explains how Feebees differentiates itself from the more common five-toe shoes on the market, highlighting practical challenges associated with five-toe designs, including toe adaptability, persistent odor issues, and aesthetic limitations. For the first time, he reveals the real story behind his entrepreneurial journey. Raised in a family that ran a traditional metalworking factory specializing in plastic injection molds, he accumulated deep technical expertise from an early age. During his studies, he specialized in mold engineering, and while majoring in mechanical engineering at university, he also cross-enrolled in biomedical engineering courses. Leveraging both family resources and academic training, he successfully 3D-printed the entire human skeleton and even assisted in producing surgical models—building a solid foundation in biomechanics and human skeletal anatomy. Most compellingly, Gu-Ming shares how he applied a “challenge-driven” mindset to his academic life, and how, after graduation, he made the difficult decision to sever ties with the family business. To break away from inherited business models and long-standing conflicts, he chose to shut down his father’s company entirely, restart with a team of just three people, and become, at the time, Taiwan’s youngest mold factory owner. He reflects on how this decisive, non-sentimental choice ultimately helped him regain clients and establish his own leadership identity. How did he combine replication expertise with medical knowledge to create products that balance functionality and aesthetics? How did he navigate the intense clash between tradition and innovation? Tune in to this episode of John聊 (JohnChat) and let Gu-Ming Chen share a startup story driven by passion, technical mastery, and personal resolve. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP42: Commentary of JohnChat_EP41 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This podcast is the Commentary of JohnChat_EP41 that features a conversation between a host and his student, Han Lin, focusing on the transformative power of sports and coaching, particularly for youth from disadvantaged backgrounds or those in correctional facilities. Han Lin, a doctoral candidate with a sports background, shares his experiences and observations regarding how a coach's commitment can profoundly influence a student's life trajectory, contrasting his own path with that of former teammates who faced challenges like poor family function and academic struggles. The discussion also critically examines the overemphasis on competitive success in sports, arguing instead for the role of athletics in fostering personal growth and providing social support, especially for children who may have learning disabilities or behavioral challenges. Ultimately, the speakers advocate for a broader view of sports that prioritizes well-being and self-improvement over merely achieving medals or professional careers, asserting that such an approach can significantly contribute to societal happiness and growth. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP40: Commentary of JohnChat_EP39 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

This episode of JohnChat features a live recording of the host’s speech delivered at the Sports Administration’s training workshop for university sports directors. The topic was “Future Strategies and Development of Adapted Sports in Higher Education Institutions.” The purpose was to introduce directors and administrators of university sports offices to the key issues that should be considered when promoting adapted sports on campus. Key Content and Highlights: 1. The Necessity and Legal Basis of Adapted Sports Sports equality as a core goal: The primary mission of establishing the Department of Sports Development is to ensure that persons with disabilities have the right to sports. Equality in sports must go beyond slogans and be genuinely experienced by people with disabilities. Rising numbers of students with disabilities in higher education: Despite declining overall enrollment, the number of special education students (with disabilities) is increasing yearly, now exceeding 16,000 and moving toward 20,000. Legal obligation: Article 38 of the Special Education Act clearly states that adapted physical education is a necessary service for students. Failure to provide this service, or exempting students from it, essentially constitutes a violation of the law. Inclusion and human rights model: Taiwan promotes inclusion, seeking to integrate students with disabilities into the community. Outdated charity or medical models should be abandoned in favor of the social and human rights models, which emphasize the joy and rights of students with disabilities to participate in PE, sports teams, and athletic events. 2. Strategies and Challenges for Universities Teaching and conflict prevention: Students with certain disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, emotional/behavioral disorders) often face conflicts in PE classes. Without adequate special education knowledge, PE teachers may find it difficult to interact safely, increasing the risk of accidents. Trend toward inclusive teaching: Today, 96% of special education students are in mainstream schools. Those who make it to university mostly grew up in regular classes, including PE. Therefore, PE teachers should be capable of inclusive teaching. Strengthening teacher capacity: Due to university autonomy, most faculty lack opportunities for professional development in adapted PE. Institutions must take this seriously and provide training and capacity-building. Facility improvement and student participation in decision-making: Universities should optimize sports facilities (e.g., installing pool transfer chairs) and collaborate with resource centers to survey the needs and satisfaction of students with disabilities, ensuring their involvement in decision-making and evaluation. Elevating the status of sports: Sports should not be treated as a luxury, decoration, or expendable item, but rather as a necessity and daily essential. Valuing services for special populations strengthens the educational role of university sports and secures its place on campus. 3. Promoting Inclusion in Major Competitions Participation of students with disabilities in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG): The speaker called for opening NIAG to students with disabilities, based on the human rights model, to encourage their participation in teams and clubs. Since NIAG’s purpose is to make sports enjoyable for all students nationwide, excluding students with disabilities from major competitions makes it difficult for coaches, clubs, and sports offices to motivate them to engage. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

-- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP32: Commentary of JohnChat_EP31 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Nomination Thank-You Special | Golden Harmony of Happiness Nominated for the 60th Golden Bell Awards (Radio) — “Social Concern Program Award” Our heartfelt thanks to the judges for this recognition, and to National Education Radio (NER) for steadfast support. A special note of gratitude to my co-host, Walker Hsu (Yi-Teng Hsu). The seed of this program was, in truth, to “encourage (read: nudge!)” Walker to accelerate the literature review for his PhD—set against Taiwan’s approach to becoming a super-aged society in 2025, and centered on the everyday challenges of dual-elder families: intergenerational mutual care, the aging of people with disabilities, and the systemic issues at the intersection of aging and disability. We wanted to translate rigorous research into knowledge that everyday listeners can understand and use. With NER’s trust, we were fortunate to bring these vital topics into public life through a radio show. First and foremost—thank you, NER, for your confidence and support. We also owe deep thanks to Yu-Juan for shaping the show’s overall structure and design. Season 1 of Golden Harmony of Happiness spans 13 episodes, woven—rigorously yet gently—around a three-part arc: Golden Prelude : Each episode opens with a literary work resonant with the theme, and welcomes guests from real-life contexts—such as families facing rare diseases, mental health conditions, or autism—to awaken empathy and lay the groundwork. Golden Symphony: Cross-disciplinary experts join for in-depth dialogues on topics like nutrition for older adults (e.g., Prof. 劉沁渝, Department of Nutritional Science, Fu Jen University), leisure and activity, technology and aging (digital divide, fraud prevention, AI robotics), dementia support, caregiving in families of people with disabilities (e.g., 卓碧金 of the Cerebral Palsy Association), and interprofessional collaboration. We begin from the lived experience of people with disabilities, translating rigorous scientific evidence into accessible, friendly science communication—helping listeners reflect on their own health, diet, and quality of life. Golden March: Each episode closes with a carefully chosen song that echoes the theme—spanning Mandarin, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Hakka, and English. For example, during Lunar New Year we featured Shu-Fang’s Taiwanese song Gu-wei (孤味); on depression, we used a BTS track to bring younger audiences into the conversation. In the finale, Walker and I teamed up with 希子 to write and perform the eponymous rap single Golden Harmony of Happiness—a warm yet powerful coda to the season. Our gratitude to every guest who entrusted us with their life stories, and to each expert who poured in their professionalism. Beyond the broadcast, we have been extending the work both online and offline: listener meetups, the “Golden Mermaids” swim class (encouraging women 55+ who fear water to bravely get in), and the “Golden Harmony AI Chatroom.” Our hope is to carry the show’s ethos into daily life—practices for living well in an aging future. The intention behind Golden Harmony of Happiness is simple—and not simple at all: in an era where aging is the norm, to accompany everyone in “living well and aging gracefully.” Thank you to NER, our production team, every guest, and every listener. All episodes are now on Channel+ for on-demand listening. Please share this care with anyone who might need it. Once again, thank you to all who made this nomination possible—this honor belongs to our collective effort and shared belief. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

【Nominated—Thank You | Golden Harmony of Happiness】🙏🎙️ We’re thrilled that Golden Harmony of Happiness, aired on National Education Radio, has been nominated for “Best Social Concern Program” at the 60th Golden Bell Awards (Radio)! For this special episode we invited Yi-Teng (Walker Hsu) to record a heartfelt thank-you together. Our starting point was simple (and a little mischievous)—to nudge my co-host Yi-Teng to speed up his PhD literature review 😆. His research focused on Taiwan’s “dual-elder families.” With Taiwan entering a super-aged society in 2025, we wanted to explain— in everyday language—the intertwined challenges of aging and disability. First and foremost, thank you to National Education Radio for believing in our proposal! Deep thanks to Yu-Juan for shaping the show’s structure. Season 1 features 13 episodes built around a “three-part suite”: Golden Prelude: Open with a literary work, then bring in real stories from families facing rare diseases, mental illness, autism, and more—to spark empathy. Golden Symphony: In-depth conversations with experts across fields (e.g., Prof. Liu Qin-Yu of Fu Jen University on nutrition; Chuo Bi-Jin, Chairperson of the Cerebral Palsy Association; plus topics like the digital divide, anti-fraud, and AI). We translate rigorous evidence into practical, easy-to-apply knowledge for daily life. Golden March: Close each episode with a theme-echoing song—ranging from the Taiwanese track “Gu-Wei (孤味)” to K-pop by BTS—to invite different generations in. Our finale features an original rap single, “Golden Harmony of Happiness,” performed with Xizi. Gratitude to all our guests, experts, and production partners for weaving literature, fieldwork, professional insight, and science together—and to every listener for tuning in and sharing. Beyond the broadcast, we’ve hosted listener meet-ups, launched the “Golden Mermaids” swimming class (friendly for women 55+ who are afraid of water), and built the “Golden Harmony AI Chatroom,” so the content can truly land in daily life. Our aim is simple: in an aging society, learn to “live well and age gracefully.” The show is now on Channel+ for on-demand listening—please keep the feedback and good vibes coming. Thank you all—let’s keep moving forward together! 🎧✨ -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

EP30: Commentary of JohnChat_EP29 ft. NotebookLM Deep Dive

Today, John’s guest is Yu Wei, who joins us to explore the everyday challenges faced by people with disabilities. Their conversation touches on common misconceptions about visual impairments, the necessity of assistive devices such as wheelchairs, and the widespread lack of accessible infrastructure. They particularly highlight the importance of accessible transportation and accommodations, using examples from their experiences attending Major League Baseball games in the U.S. and concerts in Taiwan to illustrate the difficulties individuals with disabilities often face when engaging in leisure activities. The discussion concludes with a call for greater societal understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities, as well as a continued push for universal design and accessibility to create a more inclusive environment for all. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

This Episode is the commentary of JohnChat_EP21 by NotebookLM Deep Dive. JohnChat EP21 is a joint broadcast with Grandma Washes Screws (S2_EP13), and the recording process was a lot of fun! I was in Taitung to participate in the LAVA Play Race Park event, and since I was already there, I joined the recording of Grandma Washes Screws early the next morning after the race. The only regret was that my nose was still full of water from Flowing Lake, so I sounded quite nasal—please bear with me! In this episode, we talked about the origins of my initiative, "Together We Move", and even touched on the university admission system. It was a totally free-flowing conversation, jumping from one topic to another, and I had an absolute blast! -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
