KinkVision

KinkVision is a podcast that explores the relationship between kink culture and pop culture by talking about: scenes in mainstream media that push fetishistic buttons, how most kinksters can trace the roots of their fetishes to media they've consumed, media's influence on kink content, and anything else in this realm.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)

The Realness We Do in the Shadows

To wrap Performing the Ordinary, Kevin and Nat discuss how realness and performing the ordinary factor into the comedic, pseudo-reality-show What We Do in the Shadows with Dorian. The absurdity and hijinks of being eternal, immortal vampires comes with an awful lot of passing. First, there’s passing as human just so vampires could survive in the same world as them. Then, there’s the need to start over in a small town and getting emotionally wrapped up in the people who live there, the desire to become human again and live a delusion with a wellness cult, participating in human ideas of masculinity and femininity, or realizing that coming out as gay is the most boring thing reveal about someone. All of these things relate to kinksters and kinkster fantasies in different ways. Do You Want People to Stare?!

Nat and Kevin are joined by Jon again, this time to talk about the cult classic Death Becomes Her. Like other movies that have been discussed on KinkVision, there’s a definite queer and kinky sensibility in Death Becomes Her. Particularly, there is a great deal of passing from older women passing as young, dead and immortal women passing as alive and mortal, and then there’s Ernest. The soft, bald republican did most of the heterosexual adult male touchstones, but made a career around passing, was a complete beta male, and essentially was the desexualized love object in the love triangle between Helen and Madeline. None Shall Pass PART TWO

Kevin, Nat, and their guests continue talking about the various ways that they’ve passed. When learning that other people are kinksters, or at least more tolerant and accepting than assumed, there’s less of a need to pass. However, there can always be environments and people that make the need to pass very palatable. In kink, passing could even just involve making roleplay and looks more authentic because there is less of a need to do it. Like in PART ONE, there are segments with James, Danny, Tim, Gagmaniac, Tom, Ben, Mike, and Tex.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)James - @s.t.a.n.n.u.m (Instagram); @s.t.a.n.n.u.m.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Podcast - Thicc RadioTom - @suitor_wolfs_out (Instagram); @southernsuitor.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Danny - @kinkmate13.0 (Instagram); @kinkmate13.bsky.social (Bluesky)Gagmaniac - @gag.mania (Instagram); @gagmaniac.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Tim - @thickey_mouse (Instagram); @thickey_mouse (Twitter)Podcast - Thicc RadioBen - @bawdylovepun (Instagram)Mike - @tightrg61eu (Instagram); @tightropeseu.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Tex - @geardpnw (Instagram); @geardpnw.bsky.social (Blue Sky)

None Shall Pass - PART ONE

Nat and Kevin are joined by James to discuss how people from marginalized communities find ways to blend in with normative society, which is a survival strategy called passing. Since there will always be people who demonize and punish others for being different in the normative world, people who are considered different need to put on a particular performance that shows others that they’re normal. Kinksters, queer people, and many other groups have passed in some shape or fashion, from being closeted to just trying to fit in. To get a broader scope of the different ways that kinksters pass, there are segments with Danny, Tim, Gagmaniac, Tom, Ben, Mike, and Tex.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)James - @s.t.a.n.n.u.m (Instagram); @s.t.a.n.n.u.m.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Podcast - Thicc RadioTom - @suitor_wolfs_out (Instagram); @southernsuitor.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Danny - @kinkmate13.0 (Instagram); @kinkmate13.bsky.social (Bluesky)Gagmaniac - @gag.mania (Instagram); @gagmaniac.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Tim - @thickey_mouse (Instagram); @thickey_mouse (Twitter)Podcast - Thicc RadioBen - @bawdylovepun (Instagram)Mike - @tightrg61eu (Instagram); @tightropeseu.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Tex - @geardpnw (Instagram); @geardpnw.bsky.social (Blue Sky)

    Performing Normativity

Nat and Kevin are joined by Scott, who is known for his Retro Rope project. Retro Rope brings a mid-century screencap aesthetic to the 21st century by capturing nostalgic scenes of tied up men and gaining notoriety on social media. They discuss Scott’s vision for the project, how he created the signature Retro Rope look, audience reactions to his work, and the difference between bondage art and eroticism. Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls

Kevin and Nat discuss the creation of kinky drawings with Frankie. Frankie has published drawings in several issues of Drummer magazine, designed and sold merch at kink events and on his Chunky Sequins Etsy store, and hosted events where participants draw live tied up models. They talk about influences and motivations for drawing kinky subject matter, things that are tricky to draw, and what's unappealing and problematic about AI art.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Frankie - @chunkysequins (Instagram); @chunkysequins.bsky.social (Blue Sky)

    Hotter Than Fiction

Kevin and Nat continue their exploration of kinky art and artists by having a conversation with Tom about the things that influence his particular brand of fetish fiction. Tom’s writing includes many of the things that he’s into: suits, bondage, humiliation, dishevelment, and more. All of these factor into werewolf fantasies that Tom discusses, where men’s bodies turn against them as they transform into something bigger and hairier. As once distinguished men become uncontrollable beasts, they might need to be restrained for everyone’s safety and their pristine clothing turns into tattered rags. However, when the once powerful monster returns to his human form, he’s often left confused, exposed, and embarrassed.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Tom - @suitor_wolfs_out (Instagram); @southernsuitor.bsky.social (Blue Sky)

    The King of Fetish

Nat and Kevin are honored to be joined by the incredible Rick Castro to discuss his work and legacy for creating queer and kinky visual art. Over the past few decades, Castro’s photography has been shown in a number of exhibitions, books, magazines, etc. In 2004, he published 13 Years of Bondage: The Photography of Rick Castro, which depicts leather-clad street hustlers in bondage. He also wrote and directed Hustler White (1996) with Bruce LaBruce, and directed a number of other short films and documentaries, including MTV’s Plushies & Furries (2001). His work is collected by the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, and the Tom of Finland Foundation.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Rick Castro - @castrrick (Instagram)

Riddler is known for his social media handle and website called Swat Studios, whose content features various kinds of law enforcement uniforms and kinky scenarios. To celebrate Thanksgiving, Kevin and Nat produced a holiday special to discuss the kink and queer sensibilities of Addams Family Values, as well as the Thanksgiving holiday, other specials, and things that we’re thankful for. Since holidays can be difficult for a lot of kinksters because of family dynamics, political discussions, and a general lack of sex or kink appeal, KinkVision hopes that this special would make kinksters feel less isolated for this holiday. KinkVision Presents: The Why We’re Gagging Ball - Part 2

Nat and Kevin continue The Why We're Gagging Ball with the following categories: Captured Executive Realness, Hate the Game, Tie Up a Player, and Captured by the Screen. In Fetishism and Culture: A Different Theory of Modernity, Hartmut Böhme explains how everything and everyone in modern society can be considered fetishes or fetishists because of the prevalence of materialistic and consumerist culture. So, even though kinksters likely understand our fetishes as sexual, people with fixations, superstitions, and rituals that are more accepted in the normative world could be other kinds of fetishists because mass culture breeds fetishism. This relates to how ballroom categories reflect performances that appear acceptable to the heteronormative world because members perform and get evaluated on how well they imitate the mainstream world within a queer space. Both gear kinksters and ballroom members seem to not only fetishize the clothing and enactment that goes into walking a category, but also fetishize the very idea of fitting into the mainstream world. This serves as a reclamation of privileges that haven't been granted by the normative world because kink sessions and ballrooms grant marginalized queers the opportunity to take part in normative roles or ideologies without persecution. At the very least, kinksters aren't the only ones who exhibit fetishistism or perversion.Marlon M. Bailey, Butch Queens Up in Pumps: Gender, Performance, and Ballroom Culture in Detroit was a main source for this episode.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Danny - @kinkmate13.0 (Instagram); @kinkmate13.bsky.social (Bluesky)Gagmaniac - @gag.mania (Instagram); @gagmaniac.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Sean - @capturedcamo (Instagram); @capturedcamo.bsky.social (Bluesky)Ryder - @blackleathercowboy (Instagram)Johan - @johdarg (Instagram); @johdarg.bsky.social (Bluesky)Frank Hardy - @frankhardybound (Instagram); @hardyboybound.bsky.social (Bluesky)

KinkVision Presents: The Why We’re Gagging Ball - Part 1

This week on KinkVision, Nat and Kevin host a “ball” to discuss gear, clothing fetishes, roleplay, and the media that influenced these things with guests. The Part One categories are: I Love a Man in Uniform, Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?, and Embody-Ody-Oddying the Role.In ballroom culture, “realness” means convincingly acting out mainstream social roles while using common cultural understandings of these roles. For example, most can assume that performing “executive realness” would involve wearing a suit, having a confident and professional demeanor, being from an upper class, etc. Categories at balls allow various kinds of gender and erotic expressions for how roles are enacted; however, judges impose strict criteria for how they evaluate the quality of performance for each category. This relates to the role that gear plays in the kink world because beyond simply fetishing particular articles of clothing, there are elements of realness and categories that determine standards of how looks ought to be worn and performed in. For various kinds of kink play, particular looks can have connotations that determine sexual roles and interests. On a broader level, members of ballroom culture, like kinksters, are queer outsiders who find creative ways to situate their queerness into typically heteronormative performances and roles. While ballroom members’ outsider status has been historically rooted in being a combination of gay, bi, pansexual, black, brown, low-income, trans, and/or nonbinary, some kinksters may share some of these outsider characteristics on top of the stigma of having a perversion.Marlon M. Bailey’s book, Butch Queens Up in Pumps: Gender, Performance, and Ballroom Culture in Detroit was used as a main source. The Queer Art of Failure by J. Halberstam was a secondary source.Contact Us:[email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Danny - @kinkmate13.0 (Instagram); @kinkmate13.bsky.social (Bluesky)Gagmaniac - @gag.mania (Instagram); @gagmaniac.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Sean - @capturedcamo (Instagram); @capturedcamo.bsky.social (Bluesky)Ryder - @blackleathercowboy (Instagram)Johan - @johdarg (Instagram); @johdarg.bsky.social (Bluesky)Frank Hardy - @frankhardybound (Instagram); @hardyboybound.bsky.social (Bluesky)

Stuff Blue Velvet in My Mouth

Nat and Kevin are joined by Nat’s boyfriend, Jon, to discuss the kink sensibilities of Blue Velvet. Even though there are no scenes of interest (for gay bondage kinksters) in this movie, moments and other parts of Blue Velvet really speak to the kink experience. First, there’s the fetishization of blue velvet itself. Then, there’s the line “I don’t know if you’re a detective or a pervert,” Frank’s use of poppers, a memorable scene that reflects a somewhat negative version of a kink session, and the list goes on.Contact [email protected] - @kevinjeopardy (Instagram)Nat - @thoughtful.fetishist (Instagram); @thoughtfulnat.bsky.social (Blue Sky)Jon - @suitbound.bsky.social (Blue Sky); @boundsuit (Twitter); absolutebondage (Recon)
