Three Stooges - Original Mix By Koki Lortkipanidze - Synetic Theater Production - The Tempest
The Tempest September 25 – October 20, 2019 Synetic’s legendary, cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest returns – with the famed water-filled stage and visual poetry that made the original production an unforgettable sensation when it premiered in 2013- plus a new twist as Synetic co-founder Irina Tsikurishvili steps into the role of “Prospera.” When the magical and powerful Prospera creates a sea storm, she gets more than she bargained for as romantic drama, deception, and quests for vengeance emerge from the depths. Spirits, monsters, witches, drunken fools, and lithe lovers contort and cavort with passion and bravado in one of Shakespeare’s most high-stakes and irreverent comedies. In Synetic’s production, a 1200-square-foot pool takes center stage, providing a dynamic and dazzling medium through which to bring Shakespeare’s characters to emotional life. The audience even gets to join in on the magic, with the first three rows of the orchestra designated as a splash zone! In 2013, Arlington-based Synetic Theater took their signature cinematic style to a new level when they flooded the stage with water for a production of The Tempest. This acclaimed production returns to open the 2019/20 Season in Crystal City. The Tempest was to be the 9th installment of Synetic’s popular Wordless Shakespeare series and Founding Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili was inspired to use a water stage by the way in which water is closely tied to the plot. “The exiled Prospero is sent to an island, surrounded and inundated by water,” Tsikurshvili said. “His power and magic grows from it, and even the inciting action is created by water when Prospero uses a storm to bring his enemies to him.” Water is a versatile theatrical element, conveying a variety of emotions and feelings. It can be at once dramatic, comical, magical, and lyrical. Additionally, the hypnotic combination of water and physical theater captivated audiences’ imaginations in a totally new way… read more. The cast includes Alex Mills as Ariel, Anne Flowers as Sycorax, Vato Tsikurishvili as Caliban, Megan Khaziran as Antonia, Scott Brown as Ferdinand, Pablo Guillen as Sebastian, Katherine DuBois Maguire as Trinculo, Matt R. Stover as Stephano with Scean Aaron and Katherine Frattini in the ensemble.

Two unidentified agents from an unknown agency arrest this man for an unspecified crime. While this story might sound as if it had been ripped from the headlines, it is from Franz Kafka’s 1914/15 The Trial. CAIN & DARK ANGEL - Original Music By Koki - Synetic Theater Production - The Mark Of Cain
It is with equal regret and excitement that we inform you of our decision not to perform Carmen this Summer. While staging a wordless remount of Carmen would have been wonderful, Synetic’s Founding Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili has been inspired to produce an original work for you, instead. We are pleased to announce the new fifth show in our 2016/17 Season will be The Mark of Cain. A newly devised work, Synetic Theater’s The Mark of Cain is a neo-surrealist distillation of human history, seen through the eyes of Cain, the world’s first criminal. As he makes his bloody ‘mark’ in every corner of the world, we see that the conflict between progress and morality are ever present–a function of humanity’s need to create civilization through uncivilized means and attempt to touch the face of God. We will ask the question; was Cain a criminal? It will be up to you to decide if his actions were justified. This show is recommended for ages 13+ for mature content. July 19 >> August 13 Tickets at; synetictheater.org

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame - Trailer Music By Koki L. - Synetic Theater Production
‘Hunchback’ has been on our list for quite awhile now, and my aim with it is to not only get back to basics, but also, in the process, to challenge ourselves and our audiences’ perception of Synetic. We’ve done so much Silent Shakespeare, but I was excited to discover that this new genre we’ve invented can extend to other world classics, that these can be taken “beyond words” as well. As with the themes of some of our earliest productions, the emotions conveyed in ‘Hunchback’ are absolutely archetypal, iconic, primal, and epic. Lust, loneliness, fate—it’s a lot to tackle, but I think it can all be encompassed by staging the novel symbolically, through visuals: An organ and a massive cross as the “heart” of Notre Dame Cathedral, the Cathedral’s gargoyles not as just statues, but as living extensions of Frollo’s psyche and the manifestation of his inner conflict. For me, this is a story about corruption—specifically, how Frollo becomes corrupted over time. I think the general perception of him naturally tends to be very dark, but I want to show his lighter side too, his journey: How his isolation in Notre Dame leads to a complete loss of self–a void which his power and position, as well as the gargoyles, fill, as manifestations of his suppressed and corrupted desires and conflicts. Most of all, I was fascinated with the “triangle” of Frollo, Quasimodo, and Esmeralda. On the one hand, you have these two examples of perfect purity in Quasimodo and Esmeralda–Quasimodo’s innocence and Esmeralda’s unbending freedom and honesty. In their own unique ways, these are very honest, pure characters. But linking them together is Frollo, someone who has become completely corrupted by power, and with tragic irony, also by Esmeralda–an example of innocence, goodness, and honesty. This is such a powerful contradiction, and yet it somehow all makes perfect dramatic sense. –Paata Tsikurishvili
