027: How to Get Corporate Sponsors with Linda Hollander
Linda Hollander got started in her business as a bag lady—the Wealthy Bag Lady. Teaming up with her friend Sheryll Felise, Linda created a company that produced custom print shopping bags, and soon had names like Disney, Nutella, and Sears on their client list. Having crafted her own business success from scratch, Linda realized the value of her business knowledge and soon began working as a consultant, helping small business owners find financial success and personal fulfillment from their business. Listen Now:                     Subscribe and Leave a Review in iTunes to                       Enter for First Friday’s Raffle* l Listen in Stitcher Before she started her business, Linda was in trouble financially, working a dead-end job that couldn’t pay the rent. “I wanted other women to experience what I experienced, the empowerment that comes from starting and succeeding in your own small business,†Linda says. “I was able to get out of debt, I was able to fire my boss, I was able to dump the abusive boyfriend… I wanted other women to have that experience.†One important factor in Linda’s success was her ability to attract big-name sponsors from the get-go. Though many small-business owners are concerned that they don’t have the clout to attract huge corporations, Linda emphasizes that is not the case. “I was able to get those sponsors because I sold them on the concept,†she says. “I sold them on my passion. Your business is not too small to get corporate sponsors; you just have to package your business appropriately to get a corporate sponsor.† In this episode you’ll learn: The financial secrets to starting your business on a budget How to choose a lucrative business model The facts and myths about corporate sponsorships What corporations are looking for in the small businesses they sponsor How to write a great proposal for potential sponsors The nitty, gritty details of sponsorship jargon The different kinds of corporate sponsorships and how you can leverage them The general range on sponsorship deals, so you know what to ask for and what to expect How to choose corporate sponsors that make sense for your business Having an audience with purchasing power is one of the best ways to get large corporations to sponsor your business. There are plenty of opportunities for funding for non-profit projects, but Linda advises pursuing other methods of funding, for example, grants, as a way to back projects like these. But using the traditional sponsorship model, the important thing to keep in mind is the give-and-take relationship between you and your sponsor(s). “When you pitch a sponsor, remember that it’s about them and not about you,†Linda says. “The sponsor’s primary concern is how are they going to grow their customer base, how is this going to translate to sales, how are you going to educate people about their project and their company? Make it about them.†Linda is the author of Bags to Riches and the founder of the Women’s Small Business Expo. A lot of years later, and a dollar or two underneath her belt, she has really set the example for what ingenuity, determination, and guts will get you. When Nathalie built her second website, she was able to really detach herself from a former website that she knew wasn’t going to take her to the places she wanted to go. Through technology, Nathalie believes that there are a lot of things constantly coming out that will help you to build your business, and to connect with your clients. She began to realize that doing a lot of research before you launch a product is key to having a really great business. The top 3 steps that go into a product launch, according to Nathalie, are as follows: (1) Be clear what the product is going to be about, who it is going to be for, etc. (2) The tech piece, perhaps even hiring out, but it is important to understand part of what your website should be doing technologically. (3) Don’t get bogged down with the timeline of your launch; focus more on the content and less on the logistics. Threading through all of these tips, her biggest tip is to be creative with your content and to understand your ideal client.  Watch Now: Resources:  SweetProcess.com nathalielussier.com 30DayListBuildingChallenge.com Offthechartslive.com Tweetables {Click to Tweet} “You can really pick up and move any time, which is what I love about an online business.†@nathalielussier “We focus so much on the logistics of a launch, we don’t focus on the content or the emotion, and it doesn’t end up being written from the heart.†@nathalielussier Enjoying the podcast? 041: How to Become an Outsource PRO with Chris Ducker
Chris Ducker, after having to reevaluate the way that he was running his business with his wife, set a goal to be a full time virtual CEO. His book Virtual Freedom recently launched, is a step-by-step guide in how to remove yourself from your business and the exact process to avoid all the mistakes Chris’ learned throughout this process and through now running  a staff of over 300 employees. Through all of this effort, he was able to go from working 5-6 days a week, working 16 hour days, to working four days a week and only having 7-8 hour days. [Tweet “I Need Virtual Freedom Because – @ChrisDucker @KrisGilbertson “] Listen Now:                     Subscribe and Leave a Review in iTunes to                       Enter for First Friday’s Raffle* l Listen in Stitcher In this episode you’ll learn: What the ‘SuperHero Syndrome’ is and how an entrepreneurial path is shaped by this How to find and hire your staff the first time around 3 Lists to Freedom Exercise Where you can find the right VA’s, and why they should do certain tasks for you Once you’ve built your team, how to take it to the next level How Virtual Freedom will minimize mistakes and maximize results A huge misconception that Chris Ducker had to learn the hard way, was that the entrepreneur (himself, as well as anyone on his team) could not do everything that needed to be done. He realized time and time again that he needed people to help him, to optimize his business to its fullest potential, and that his team also needed help to do all of the things that needed to be done. He also began to understand that his VA was not perfect, and they needed help and direction if they were going to do everything that was required of them. As well as this, you have to trust your VA to do their job, and not be a ‘virtual vulture’ by monitoring everything they do online. That decision fueled his business, and his ability to reach a lot more people on a much wider scale. Ducker even described himself as the “complete brick and mortar, old school business guy†and claims that he forced himself to “throw himself into the online worldâ€.  A big game changer moment was when Chris Ducker made up his own ‘3 lists to Freedom’ exercise.        3 Steps to FREEDOM: Going through each step: A. Make a list of jobs that you hate to do B. Make a list of jobs you can’t do C. Make a list of jobs that, as a business owner, you shouldn’t be doing. He really discovered this is the way to become a much smarter business owner, and improve his website and his team even more. As well as this list, another huge game changer for Chris was hiring a manager to manage his entire team. He began to realize that he was no longer managing business, but managing people. In hiring a manager to do all of those tasks for him, he was able to devote a lot more time to the parts of his business that really needed his attention. Chris came to understand that while “money will come and go, time is your most valuable commodityâ€.   [Tweet “Learn How to Drop the “SuperHero Syndrome” with @ChrisDucker”] When asked what he would do if he had to start all over again, with his current empire in mind, his response to his first mode of action was ‘blogging’. Despite the undeniable passion Ducker has for his work, he could be in a totally different stratosphere if he would have started blogging early on in his business career. Despite this realization, it is evident that Chris Ducker is not only successful because of his own right, but because of his understanding that he had to drop the ‘Superhero Syndrome’ and ask for some help! 034: How to Get 80,000+ Facebook Fans with Carrie Green
Carrie Green started her business when she was 20. “I started my business when I was 20.  I just finished my first year of study law at the University and I ran out of money” she stated. “So I looked into different jobs and an opportunity came to start this online business.” While Carrie had no idea about mobile phones, she jumped straight into the online business exactly about those. Listen Now:                     Subscribe and Leave a Review in iTunes to                       Enter for First Friday’s Raffle* l Listen in Stitcher In this episode you’ll learn: How to interact with your fan base What it means to increase your website views How to write emails to your email list Know how to interact on Facebook A Facebook strategy to really launch your business Add value to your audience Over the next two years she split her time between the mobile phone online business and finishing her studies.  ”I basically learned how to run a business,” Carrie let on, “So when I graduated, I think it was turning into, 10,000 pounds a month, it was crazy!” After that, deciding she had way more fun doing this, Carrie dropped the idea of becoming a lawyer and decided to expand her business to international. The next couple of years she was dedicated to learn marketing strategies to increase flow into her website. 100,000 visits to the website were done with a little tweaking and selling thousands of codes throughout the world.  ”We completely systemized the whole thing.   So we outsourced all the different tasks so I basically didn’t have to do anything,” Carrie explained, “Which on one hand was amazing! On the other hand, it was really boring and I felt really isolated.” Carrie had spent running this business on her own and because of this isolation, she traveled to Australia hoping to get an epiphany.  No such luck came to her.  ”In 2011 it really hit me that the reason I was in that position was because of myself.” Carrie determined, “I needed to really do something about it and change my mind set.” Thus, The Female Entrepreneur Association was created.  Carrie wanted “To be able to connect to like-minded women and do something that would inspire people who were just like me and help them make their dreams come true.â€Â Carrie passionately stated.  She has 85,000 people in her community right now.  Carrie sat down and made a website, though she admitted that she thought she as no good at it, and launched it soon after. She went onto similar websites and asked if the women would be willing to share their stories on her website.  It was a big success.  Although she was able to publish these amazing stories, no one was reading them.  She said, “That’s when I started to think about how I was going to get all of the traffic and that’s when this whole idea to focus on Facebook came in.†Watch Now: Resources: femaleentrepreneurassociation.com www.facebook.com/FemaleEntrepreneurAssociation twitter.com/FEAtweets www.pinterest.com/carriegreen2/ www.youtube.com/user/FemaleEntrepreneur www.linkedin.com/groups/Female-Entrepreneur-Association-3799179 @FEAtweets  Tweetables {Click to Tweet} “Knowing what you’re trying to achieve & knowing what your purpose is crucial.â€Â @featweets I just listened to Carrie Green’s Lifestyle Interview -WOW- How to Get 80K Fans on Facebook Enjoying the podcast? 033: Cracking Your Money Code with Vinca Heart
Vinca Heart grew up nearby Berlin, where she constantly had to look up at the imposing Berlin Wall.  Because of where she lived, it was hard for her family to get food let alone a car, it took her family ten years to save money and buy it.  “There was no freedom of speech.  There was no freedom to travel†Vinca reiterated. Seeing her parents and the people around her struggle, she decided to join the political underground, to get rid of the complacency around money and help people in their lives, somehow.  “And it is really my mission in life to help people stepping out of complacency and just live fully†Vinca reasoned. From there, she used what she saw and learned to form a pattern.  This pattern and observations she believes this is where the Money Code came from. When the Berlin Wall fell, she followed her dreams of freedom and went to America and studied at Juilliard.  “I didn’t speak English at all.  I had to learn what people were doing and people were different because they grew up in a different economy system than I did†Vinca explained.  She once again observed people in different economic standings and enhanced her theory of Money Code.  Seeing as people were in different economic systems than what she was used to, Vinca changed her focus to that of business. 032: Insider Social Media Strategies with @RickMulready
Rick Mulready had plans when he came out of college; get a job, get rid of his debt and increase his savings along with making his own business.  “I was making really good money in what I was doing.  I left my full time job September 30th of last year.  So just about a year ago, I left to focus full time on my social media marketing consulting and the podcast. So, that plan though had been in place for about two years.  That was sort of my exit plan if you will†he said. Rick stated that “I’m not one to something willy nilly, I do a lot of planning and I really think things there.  So, for me that was okay.  I had to get out of debt (as in significant debt), and needed to not only build up my business but I wanted to have a security new, I wanted to get some savings going so that’s really what I worked on for those two years.†After those two years, he gained enough confidence to break away from his full time job and focus more on his social media consultation. Listen Now:                     Subscribe and Leave a Review in iTunes to                       Enter for First Friday’s Raffle* l Listen in Stitcher In this episode you’ll learn Why to start a podcast and how to get big names onto your show How to use social media for your business successfully What mistakes happen with small businesses and social media The best ads to run on Facebook and specifically how to do them Effectively Different content channels social media can offer and different platforms to use How you avoid being overwhelmed by Social Media Through his journey of knowing what he wanted to do but not really know how to make it true; Rick came to the epiphany of podcasting his knowledge. “When I left the job I didn’t even think about doing a podcast†he said as he laughed.  “The podcast was born from people who kept pushing me†Rick went on as he talked about how he didn’t like how his voice sounded so it didn’t even cross his mind. His first thoughts of podcasting were when Ekaterina Walter was interviewed for her book, Think Like Zuck.  “At the time it was all obviously about Facebook, I was still focusing on Facebook at the time.  I started to think, ‘You know, it might be really cool to interview her and have it on audio (still not a podcast) and have that information on the site’†Rick sounded really excited as he said that.   Once he figured out how he was going to set up his podcast and how he was going to get the people, it was now to let people see his message and learn about the things that people were saying on his show. His message was very simple; it was to help those small businesses succeed in social media and be just as successful as the larger companies.  “It allows you to connect with your audience that you can’t do through a blog.  It allows a voice, it allows your personality.  Here you have a lot different media so they’re allowed to see you so it’s a great platform,†Rick said enthusiastically.
