Let's Get Ready for Children's Book Week with Megan Maynor
It's not Children's Book Week Yet, but all this month we have been and will continue to be getting ready for this Week of Fun! When I first met Megan Maynor, she was just about to release Ella & Penguin Stick Together. These two sweet little characters were based on some of Megan’s friends who lived in picture books while she was growing up including George and Martha and Frog and Toad (shout out to our next week’s episode ). Since then, she has become a prolific author. My favorite will always be Ella & Penguin Stick Together but I also love A House for Every Bird and Not Enough Lollipops. As we get ready for Children’s Book Week, let’s hear about what this local mom and local author loves about children’s literature. For YouTube: Family Fun Twin CIties loves to bring you the best family fun ideas from around the metro. And we do it in a variety of ways. Some of our favorite state parks near the metro area are Wild River State Park in North Branch and William O’Brien State Park near Marine on St. Croix. But any park you head over to enjoy will be amazing. Twin Cities Libraries https://www.familyfuntwincities.com/twin-cities-libraries-mapped/ Last week’s episode I chatted with Abby Cooper about the fun stuff she likes to do. And exploring the Hennepin County libraries were high on the list. Libraries are such an important part of family fun and an inexpensive way to explore your kids ever-changing passions. We are lucky to have so many options. The Twin Cities metro area is made up of seven counties, all with their own library system. Plus, Saint Paul operates its own library system. This gives us 8 separate library systems with a total of 101 local branches.

Let's Meet Fun Local Author Abby Cooper
Abby Cooper writes some of my favorite middle grade books. Of the four she has written, my favorite is Bubbles, and I’m currently reading True Colors. Seriously, I really appreciate these books–you will learn why in the interview. I also really appreciate Abby who I got to sit down with at Amy’s Cupcake Shoppe in Hopkins for a truly delicious conversation. Abby has a very bubbly personality, but don’t think that means she doesn’t have depth. She has a ton to share about life and a heart of gold. Let's Go Listen to Fun Stories with Matt Eicheldinger
I don’t know if it’s because we both have funny last names or because I appreciate a good story, but when I learned that Matt Eicheldinger live in Minnesota, I literally shouted OUT LOUD, “I KNEW IT!” If you don’t know who Matt Eicheldinger is, he is a middle school teacher who just launched his first middle grade novel called Matt Sprouts and the Curse of the Ten Broken Toes. Omri and I enjoyed getting to know Matt so much that this turned into a 2 part series. We are pretty confident that you will enjoy Matt as much as we did. Let's Go Do Fun Stuff at Snapology
We are going to take a tour of one of the most fun locations in UPtown. ON Lyndale Ave adjacent to Bob’s Java Hut, you will find the most energizing STEAM-concepts studio in the Twin Cities: Snapology. Omri used to play at Snapology when he was little so it was fun for him to chat with owner Aaron Hagebak about the business and for Aaron and I to talk business a little bit as we have grown up together as business owners. And the most important thing that I love is that it doesn’t carry the same pressure as Christmas. The gifts aren’t as important as the time together. And this year, it’s our daughter’s birthday! So it’s extra special. Catch you last chance on Saturday for a fun Easter Egg Hunt. Nature Playgrounds: Here’s something I find really cool: incorporating natural elements into new playground designs seems to be the trend. More places are popping up where kids get the opportunity to interact with the landscape and, perhaps, develop a greater appreciation for it. We have listed 17 places we’ve discovered in the Twin Cities in our Nature Playgrounds Article. We will have the link for you in the notes. Some of our favorites are located in Tamarack Nature Center in White Bear Lake and in Lowry Nature Center in Victoria

Let's Go Do Fun Stuff at Kiddywampus
Before Family Fun Twin Cities was even a figment of our imagination, I stumbled upon Kiddywampus and wanted to tell everyone about it. And now almost 11 years of FFTC and 17 years of Kiddywampus, we are still each other's biggest fans. Omri and I met with Amy Saldahna-- the owner and energy behind Kiddywampus--and with Haley Tallman the Hopkins Store Manager and energy behind and in front of Amy. There are parades to choose from and lots of festivals. You can check out all the shenanigans on our St. Patrick’s Day article. But my top choice? The Irish Dancing at the Landmark Center. I don’t think I can get enough Irish Dancing in my life. Alice in Wonderland: Children’s Theatre Company captured the fantasy and whimsy of the children’s classic, Alice in Wonderland, while delivering a comic performance worthy of the whole family. The opening night audience had as many grandparents as kids laughing out loud at the physical comedy and witty humor. Spring Break: This is the week of my kids’ spring break. If it’s yours, too, we have a spring Break Guide for you to use. If it’s not, here is my advice. Stay home. The weekend could potentially be crazy with out of town guests. When I was in Indianapolis, our host told us that the locals avoid the Children’s Museum for the entire month of March because Spring Break packs the museum out. Or head for your favorite Twin Cities secret. .

ABOUT THIS SHOW
Let's Go Do Fun Stuff is a resource for parents, caretakers, baby-sitters, aunts and uncles, grandparents, friends, college students to use to make the most of the time they have with their family and friends. While it started as a show to promote specific things in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, it has transformed into a how-to-figure-out-this-parenting-thing-practically with a few mentions of Twin Cities things and a reference to the Family Fun Twin Cities Calendar and Weekend Guide. We can help you have fun with your kids or each other anytime and anywhere.
