030623 RESCUE SPOTLIGHT - A FIGHTING CHANCE FOUNDATION - AMY LAVIGNA
A Fighting Chance Foundation has been helping Virginia animals in need since June 2020. They are a charitable, 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in Northern Virginia with the goal of making pet care affordable for Virginia families by subsidizing a portion of emergency or life-saving medical care for animals whose guardians do not have the necessary financial resources. Their mission is to support critical care for ill pets of the elderly, disabled and those whose total household income does not exceed the current Federal poverty guidelines. The Foundation aims to keep our animal companions healthy, happy and in their homes with the families who love them. Started by three Northern Virginia residents, Amy LaVigna, Laurie Judd and Kristine DeJarnette, the Foundation has helped approximately 90 dogs and cats receive prompt, veterinary care that sometimes supports a more comfortable life, and other times saves a life. Hoping to one day expand to a national charity, the Foundation runs on 100% volunteer work and Board member donation. Long-time animal advocate, Amy LaVigna, has rescued several dogs with major health issues over the years. The cost of proper veterinary care for cancers, injuries and disease can be exorbitant for anyone. Amy found herself in and out of emergency vets paying high costs to ensure her dogs received treatment and surgeries. Realizing how inaccessible vet care is for those who already struggle with day-to-day bills, A Fighting Chance Foundation was formed. They provide hope and help to pet owners in their most difficult times. Now in their third year, the Board of Directors is looking to expand their reach and connect with donors who also know that any donation, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference, a direct impact on dogs and cats in pain or facing life- threatening issues. She offers important steps to take and common mistakes to avoid when time is of the essence. Babs spends her time consulting worldwide by phone and in the field trapping and tracking dogs that won't approach people. She has had a passion for pets as long as she can remember and now gets to enjoy passing that passion on by helping others and animals that need her. While her focus is dogs, she does pass on tips for missing cats and occasionally traps them for local owners. Her gift developed as she spent years in rescue fostering difficult and fearful dogs. It was during that time that she lost a foster and found a new way of getting dogs safe. It happens more than you realize. Today Marilyn Litt joins me to talk about his problem and what you can do and what anyone scanning pets needs to know. Good & Bad Changes in Lost Pet Recovery – 200 th Episode
Today marks the 200 th episode of Let’s Talk Pets with my special guest, Kathy Pobloskie. Kathy’s been with me almost since the beginning. She joins me monthly with the purpose of educating listeners about lost pet recovery. Today we wanted to share some of the things we’ve seen change over the years – for good and bad. Things such as: Facebook, drones, GPS tags, microchips, trail cameras, ring cameras and other security cameras. But we both feel some of the old-fashioned ways are still some of the best: fliers, ID tags, up to date microchips, signs, etc. Kathy Pobloskie, Co-Founder & Director of Lost Dogs of America and Director & Founder of Lost Dogs of Wisconsin. Kathy founded Lost Dogs of Wisconsin in 2009 and co-founded Lost Dogs of America in 2012.
