Women's History Month: A Conversation with Qiana L. Johnson
During this Women's History Month, join Life After the Impact's conversation with Qiana L. Johnson. Qiana is a legal empowerment strategist advancing structural accountability within public institutions — and a 2026 candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Her work interrogates the administrative architecture of justice — plea bargaining systems, court bureaucracy, civic restoration, and reentry infrastructure — and translates lived experience into institutional redesign. With a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies and direct experience navigating the criminal legal system, Qiana operates at the intersection of policy literacy, legal literacy, and power analysis. She advances legal literacy as a mechanism for power redistribution — equipping directly impacted communities with the procedural fluency necessary to navigate, challenge, and influence the systems that govern their lives. As the founder and Executive Director of Life After Release, she designs frameworks that center legal literacy, transparency, and access. Her initiatives include second-chance employment pipelines, train-the-trainer self-leadership models, court transparency efforts, and civic restoration strategy, all grounded in the belief that knowledge is not supplemental to justice; it is structural. She is the author of Lies, Alibis, and Plea Deals, a hybrid memoir and systems analysis examining discretion, coercion, and administrative authority within the criminal legal process. Her candidacy for Coutny Clerk of Prince Georges County , Mayland reflects the same thesis that defines her work: that the administration of justice is not neutral, it is procedural, measurable, and capable of reform. She seeks to bring literacy, transparency, and accountability directly into the operational core of the court. Her framework is clear:Legal literacy is infrastructure.Transparency is leverage.Knowledge redistributes power.

Life After the Impact: #109: SEEKING JUSTICE - The Killing of Marchello "Chello" Woodard
On July 2, 2025, in Erie, PA, Marchello Woodard — a father, son, and beloved friend — was allegedly shot and killed by a state parole agent. The very person entrusted with guiding and supporting him instead took his life. Marchello was unarmed and posed no immediate threat. He was just two weeks away from completing a successful and compliant parole.According to witnesses, Marchello had just dropped his girlfriend off at her home when he was approached. Within 60 seconds, he was shot three times in the chest. This Tuesday, we sit down with community members Deonte Cooley and Malcolm Pullium to talk about Chello’s life, the pain left in the aftermath, and the urgent call for transparency, accountability, and justice.Together, we ask the hard questions: Did the parole agent follow proper protocol? Was a false narrative crafted to justify deadly force? Are the videos and other critical evidence being fairly examined? Who is ensuring that this investigation is truly impartial? There are growing concerns about how this case is being handled, and serious questions about leadership transparency at every level. We firmly believe: no one can be safe until we are all safe — and until justice is served.Call To Action: Contact Elizabeth Hirz, District Attorney, Erie County: [email protected]: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61578587826218#JusticeForChello#LifeAfterTheImpact#AccountabilityNow#EriePA#CommunityVoices #SayHisName

On January 28th, 2025, Life After the Impact dove into a case that has left the Rockford community reeling for nearly a decade. On April 16, 2016, 34-year-old Valentia Jovan Fresco was tragically killed during an altercation with two security guards from Metro Enforcement, a private security company in Rockford. The incident escalated when one of the guards, Ryan Bruce Mattingly, allegedly struck Fresco, choked him, and eventually opened fire, ending his life on a public street outside an apartment complex. In this episode, we hear directly from Rosie Blake, the mother of Valentia Fresco, as she shares her heart-wrenching experience of waiting for justice. Life After the Impact #80: A Conversation with Dr. Dakarai Larriett on His Fight for Justice
On December 3, 2024, Life After the Impact aired a powerful interview with Dr. Dakarai Larriett, who was subjected to racial profiling, false arrest, and an attempted drug plant by Michigan State Police Troopers George Kanyuh and Matthew Okaiye. These officers fabricated stories, mocked his African name, and made homophobic remarks. Despite being 100% sober, Dr. Larriett endured humiliating sobriety tests in the cold and was pressured into a blood draw.Even after passing the alcohol test, he was still jailed and the officers continued to push false drug claims and even accused me of swallowing a bag of drugs. After a grueling five-month Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) wait, I received unsurprisingly negative drug and alcohol test results from the Michigan State Police. The shocking revelation? Body camera footage shows Troopers Kanyuh and Okaiye attempting to plant drugs in my vehicle during the stop! It’s time to hold them accountable and get them off the force! Please join us as we discuss his story and you can learn how YOU can get involved in his fight for justice.Sign Dr. Dakarai's PetitionFollow Dr. Dakarai on Social Media: FacebookInstagramDonate to Support Life After the Impact's Work: lifeaftertheimpact.orgParticipate in Our Survey: https://forms.gle/xfuuRabbUdeCpNX2A#PoliceBrutality#RacialProfiling#LifeAfterTheImpact#LifeAfterTheImpactPodcast
