Title: What Now My LoveWhat Now My Love Author: Alan Hodgkiss Narrator: Synthesized voice – unspecified Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 42 minutes Release date: December 29, 2025 Genres: Popular on #BookTok Publisher's Summary: This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. 'What Now My Love' – A Heart-Wrenching, Life-Affirming True Love Story In this raw, deeply moving audiobook, 85-year-old Alan Hodgkiss lays bare the extraordinary 56-year love affair with his soulmate Rita – from the electric moment they met at a rifle club in 1969, to her peaceful passing in his arms in 2025. With unflinching honesty and trademark British wit, Alan chronicles their wild, adventurous life together: eloping to Canada aboard the Empress of Canada, dodging bigamy charges with the RCMP, building a yacht in California, constructing a house in Baja Mexico, living among millionaires and manure-brick houses, and turning everyday moments into magic. But beneath the laughter and triumphs lies a profound grief. Alan recounts Rita’s devastating stroke, his own “broken heart syndrome,” and the unbearable silence of his first Christmas alone – all while clutching the bronze urn that holds her ashes and whispering daily to the woman who was his everything. Narrated by a crystal-clear AI voice, this bittersweet tribute is far more than a memoir. It’s a celebration of a once-in-a-lifetime love that defied convention, a poignant meditation on loss, and a gentle reminder to cherish every day with the one you love. Funny, fearless, and unflinchingly tender, 'What Now My Love' will make you laugh through tears, grip your heart, and leave you believing in soulmates again. “Alan and Rita’s story is the kind of love most people only dream of.”

Cuba in War TimeCuba in War Time (Written by Richard Harding Davis)
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/963851 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Cuba in War TimeCuba in War Time Series: Part of Forerunners Series Author: Richard Harding Davis Narrator: Brian Troxell Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 2 hours 48 minutes Release date: September 30, 2025 Genres: Language Instruction Publisher's Summary: Celebrating a decade of Columbia Global Reports, the Forerunners series revives groundbreaking works of investigative journalism and incisive analysis published a century before CGR’s founding. These texts, once forgotten or underexplored, reflect CGR’s core mission: fearless reporting, global perspective, and intellectual rigor. Each selection remains strikingly relevant today, offering historical insights that challenge contemporary perspectives and reaffirm the power of journalism to shape the world. Initially published in 1897, Cuba in War Time brought readers onto the battlefields with a style that was urgent, immersive, and unmistakably modern. Richard Harding Davis, the most famous journalist of his generation, filed vivid, morally charged dispatches, capturing everything from Spanish atrocities to the execution of a young Cuban rebel, and helped transform frontline reporting into a new literary form and a potent political force. Davis’s work helped ignite public support for the Spanish-American War, and his account of the Battle of San Juan Hill turned a young Theodore Roosevelt into a national hero. Yet his work often blurred the line between fact and spectacle, revealing how easily journalism could be swept into the causes it chronicled. This edition reexamines Davis’s legacy with a searching new introduction by Peter Maass, a celebrated war reporter himself. A foundational text in the history of American media, Cuba in War Time remains as gripping and unsettling as the events it describes.

Title: Safe Harbor Author: Padma Venkatraman Narrator: Padma Venkatraman Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 2 hours 9 minutes Release date: January 21, 2025 Genres: Non-fiction Publisher's Summary: An uplifting novel in verse about an immigrant girl adjusting to life in the US through her love of nature, music, and poetry, by the award-winning author of The Bridge Home When Geetha and her mom move from India to Rhode Island after her parents’ divorce, they leave everything Geetha loves behind—her family, her friends, her dog, and all that’s familiar. As if that’s not hard enough, Geetha is bullied at her new school for her clothes, her food, and her English (who knew so many English words could be spelled or pronounced differently in the US—or just be altogether different!). She finds some solace in playing her flute and writing poetry, and even more when she meets Miguel, a kid with whom she has a lot in common, and the two of them help rescue an injured harp seal stranded on the beach. But Geetha can feel her anger building over lots of things—careless people who pollute the sea and hurt animals, and her mom for making her move. She’s never been so sad and angry. She can see a lot of her fears mirrored in the injured seal when she visits it at the Marine Mammal Rehabilitation Center, and this broadens her understanding of survival skills. And when she and Miguel start a beach-clean-up venture, she’s surprised to find how many kind kids are out there. Geetha is torn as the time comes to let the seal go, knowing she’ll miss him, but wanting the best for him. She’s learning to live with mixed feelings and accept that while there will always be rough waters, there are plenty of safe harbors too.

Bursting with humorous stories about local characters and vivid description of French landscapes and customs gleaned from thirty-five years in the country, Raising Olives in Provence tells the story of how the author improbably came to renovate a run-down house and raise olive trees in the hills above Saint-Tropez. From olive presses to truffle markets, from Templar hostelries to lunch at a beachside club with the king and queen of Sweden, Timmerman takes us to places and introduces us to people we would never find on our own. In his other life as a war correspondent and investigative reporter, Timmerman deals with the horrors and betrayals of a world gone mad, always returning to this hillside in the south of France as a refuge. But even here, intrigue and treachery lie just beneath the surface, along with mysterious visitors on the hillside, an olive thief, phony artists and wannabe aristocrats, and the endless love adventures of his French neighbors. Love, faith, marriage, and friendship—with a sprinkling of salt, thyme, and some olive oil, please! And don't forget the rosé.

Title: A Pair of Wings: A Novel Author: Carole Hopson Narrator: Alaska Jackson Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 14 hours 33 minutes Release date: August 20, 2024 Genres: Essays & Anthologies Publisher's Summary: An airline captain crafts a riveting, adventurous novel inspired by the remarkable true life of pioneer aviatrix Bessie Coleman, a Black woman who learned to fly at the dawn of aviation and found freedom in the air A few years after the Wright brothers’ first flight, Bessie was working the Texas cotton fields with her family when an airplane flew over their heads. It buzzed so low she thought she could catch it in her hands. Bessie was fearless. She knew there was freedom in those wings. The daughter of a woman born into slavery, Bessie answers the call of the Great Migration. She moves to Chicago, where she wins the backing of two wealthy, powerful Black men—Robert Abbott, creator and publisher of the Chicago Defender, and Jesse Binga, the founder of Chicago’s first Black bank. Abbott becomes her mentor, while Binga becomes her lover. Her true first love, though, remains flying. But in 1920, no one in the United States will train a Black woman to fly. So, twenty-eight-year-old Bessie learns to speak French and sets off for Europe. Two years ahead of Amelia Earhart, Bessie earns her pilot's license, and later she learns death-defying stunts from French and German dogfighting combat pilots. While she finds no prejudice in the air, Bessie wrestles with other challenges on the ground. A plane crash nearly kills her, her brothers seem to be crumbling under the weight of Jim Crow, and, while grappling with tough truths about Binga, Bessie begins to wonder if the freedom she finds in the sky means she must otherwise fly solo. With tenderness and mastery, Carole Hopson imagines the breathtaking moxie Bessie Coleman harnessed in order to lift herself out of poverty and become known as “Queen Bess.” A Macmillan Audio production from Henry Holt & Company.

Death at Morning House (By Maureen Johnson)
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/727391 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Death at Morning House Author: Maureen Johnson Narrator: Katherine Littrell Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 9 hours 23 minutes Release date: August 6, 2024 Genres: Historical Publisher's Summary: An instant New York Times and Indie bestseller! From the bestselling author of the Truly Devious books, Maureen Johnson, comes a new stand-alone YA about a teen who uncovers a mystery while working as a tour guide on an island and must solve it before history repeats itself. The fire wasn’t Marlowe Wexler’s fault. Dates should be hot, but not hot enough to warrant literal firefighters. Akilah, the girl Marlowe has been in love with for years, will never go out with her again. No one dates an accidental arsonist. With her house-sitting career up in flames, it seems the universe owes Marlowe a new summer job, and that’s how she ends up at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s and abandoned shortly thereafter. It’s easy enough, giving tours. Low risk of fire. High chance of getting bored talking about stained glass and nut cutlets and Prohibition. Oh, and the deaths. Did anyone mention the deaths? Maybe this job isn’t such a gift after all. Morning House has a horrific secret that’s been buried for decades, and now the person who brought her here is missing. All it takes is one clue to set off a catastrophic chain of events. One small detail, just like a spark, could burn it all down—if someone doesn’t bury Marlowe first. * Chicago Public Library Best Teen Fiction 2024 * Horn Book Fanfare 2024 Booklist *

Listen to Coxsackie: The Life and Death of Prison Reform by Joseph F. Spillane
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/799696 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Coxsackie: The Life and Death of Prison Reform Author: Joseph F. Spillane Narrator: Auto Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 11 hours 8 minutes Release date: July 16, 2024 Genres: The Americas Publisher's Summary: Should prisons attempt reform and uplift inmates or, by means of principled punishment, deter them from further wrongdoing? This debate has raged in Western Europe and in the United States at least since the late eighteenth century. Joseph F. Spillane examines the failure of progressive reform in New York State by focusing on Coxsackie, a New Deal reformatory built for young male offenders. Opened in 1935 to serve 'adolescents adrift,' Coxsackie instead became an unstable and brutalizing prison. From the start, the liberal impulse underpinning the prison's mission was overwhelmed by challenges it was unequipped or unwilling to face—drugs, gangs, and racial conflict. Spillane draws on detailed prison records to reconstruct a life behind bars in which 'ungovernable' young men posed constant challenges to racial and cultural order. The New Deal order of the prison was unstable from the start; the politics of punishment quickly became the politics of race and social exclusion, and efforts to save liberal reform in postwar New York only deepened its failures. In 1977, inmates took hostages to focus attention on their grievances. The result was stricter discipline and an end to any pretense that Coxsackie was a reform institution. Why did the prison fail? For answers, Spillane immerses readers in the changing culture and racial makeup of the U.S. prison system and borrows from studies of colonial prisons, which emblematized efforts by an exploitative regime to impose cultural and racial restraint on others. In today's era of mass incarceration, prisons have become conflict-ridden warehouses and powerful symbols of racism and inequality. This account challenges the conventional wisdom that America's prison crisis is of comparatively recent vintage, showing instead how a racial and punitive system of control emerged from the ashes of a progressive ideal.
