    A Higher CAW-ling: Chatting with the CROs

    In this episode, we sat down with Lt.     S5 Episode 5: C/Hannus (Field Training)

    In this episode, we got the opportunity to sit down and talk with our very own Cadet Jet Hannus.     S5 Episode 2: Money Talks with Lt Col Matteson and Capt Torres

    Do you know how to budget? How to invest? Or how much to put into TSP? For all those who like learning about how to use your money and those who want to learn before they get their butter bars this episode is for you! Not everyone is lucky to have help when learning how to handle your money and all the new benefits when you commission so we sat down with Lt Col Matteson and Capt Torres to ask some questions on what you should know and look into. We discussed the different mindsets towards money, ways to know your budget, credit card advisory, and more. It's time to get financially literate!

    Mini Episode: AAO

    For all those people who want to become a pilot this episode is for you! In our first mini episode of the season, we sat down with our very own C/Capt Pearce fresh from field training and now the new commander of our detachment's Aztec Aviation Organization. He told us about the benefits of joining AAO, the process of becoming a pilot in USAF, how to succeed in ROTC, and his field training experience.

    S5 Episode 1: Lt Col Donovan Matteson

    To kick off Season 5 of Live with DET 075 we were able to sit down and talk with the Detachment's newest Cadre member Lt Col Matteson and discuss his experience. He talked about his role as the Recruiting Flight Commander, his time as a KC-135 pilot, experiences at SERE and UPT, and he also shared some great advice for Cadets in the program.

    S4 Episode 9: CMSgt Diana Scaramouche

    Chief Master Sergeant Diana Scaramouche, a previous Cadre and forever family member of Detachment 075, is currently a Personnelist within the Air Combat Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. In this episode, we talk about her current career from her involvement with changes currently being implemented within the Department of the Air Force to her involvement with the female and family-readiness centered organization, Sword Athena. Chief Scaramouche also shares some advice and some lessons she has learned throughout her time in the Air Force. If you are interested in hearing more about Chief Scaramouche's background and story, we recommend listening to Season 1, Episode 3 of "Live with Det 075" as well.

    S4 Episode 8: C/Colin Boothman and C/Tanner Coleman (Combat Rescue Officer)

    Colin Boothman and Tanner Coleman are Det 075 cadets who have both been selected to be Combat Rescue Officers. In this episode they go in depth of what the phases are to even be considered for this AFSC: scores, background, mentality, leader/followership and more! They discuss how they prepared mental with mantras and journaling, physically with a variety of workouts including swimming in uniform, and how their current jobs also prepared them. They encourage anyone interested in this AFSC to check out your detachment's Phase 0 program and some advice to all cadets is to isolate the feeling of "I don't want" during training.

    S4 Episode 7: Capt Ryan Torres (Developmental Engineer)

    Capt Ryan Torres is the current Education Flight Commander of AFROTC Detachment 075. In this episode, he talks about being an engineer in the Air Force, his time as a Weapon Analyst, and things he wish he knew before commissioning. He shares some advice to engineer students on how to prepare for a career in the Military and to all soon to be officers.

    S4 Episode 6: Brig. Gen. Cantwell & CMSgt. Alexander (Holm Center Commander & Command Chief)

    We had the amazing opportunity to interview Holm Center Commander Brigadier General Houston Cantwell and Command Chief for the Holm Center, Chief Master Sergeant Gilda Alexander. General Cantwell originally started off his career as a pilot and Chief Alexander as a personnelist and both eventually branched off into different assignments/opportunities. In this episode, we talked about their careers thus far, including their experience with the Holm Center as well as their views on the Air Force, leadership, and much more. It was truly awesome seeing this dynamic pair and it was such an honor to sit down and have a conversation with them.

    S4 Episode 5: 2nd Lt Brenden Lopez (RPIP Instructor/ENJJPT Select)

    2nd Lieutenant Brenden Lopez is a Detachment 075 alumni and pilot select who will be participating in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Training Program (ENJJPT). In this episode, he talks about how he stays motivated during the wait: including his involvement with the ROTC Pilot Indoctrination Program (RPIP): a resource he believes every Det 075 cadet looking to go into rated career fields should know about. In addition, he discusses how he balanced school, work, training, and personal life as well as lessons he has learned as a cadet.

    S4 Episode 4: 2nd Lt Madelyn Toriano (Security Forces)

    2nd Lt Madelyn Toriano, a Detachment 075 Alumni who held positions such as Operations Group Commander and Squadron Commander for the John Burdette Binkley Squadron, is now currently a Security Forces Officer. In this episode of the podcast, she talks about her experiences in technical school (located in Joint Base San Antonio - Camp Bullis), experiences as a brand new 2nd Lt, key lessons and advice to future Air Force Officers, and the career field of Security Forces. If there is one piece of advice to take to heart, it's to advocate for yourself.

    S4 Episode 3: Capt D'Angelo Turner (Force Support)

    Captain D'Angelo Turner is the current Director of Operations at AFROTC Detachment 075. In this episode, he discusses the versatility of his career as a Force Support Officer and shares unique experiences he had in this career field, including planning an airshow and bringing home a service member after 69 years of being declared missing in action. Throughout the episode, he also shares his admiration for ROTC cadets while providing valuable advice for future officers.

    S4 Episode 2: SSgt Jarel Mills (Administration)

    Staff Sergeant Jarel Mills is the current Non-Commisionned Officer in Charge of Personnel at AFROTC Detachment 075 at San Diego State University. In this episode, he shares his experience of enlisting in the Air Force, his time in Administration, and his current position as NCOIC of Personnel. Throughout the episode, he shares valuable lessons and experiences he learned throughout his career and throughout his life, as well as providing cadets advice on how to succeed in the Air Force.

    S4 Episode 1: Capt Lance Wolfsmith (Acquisitions/Space Operations)

    Captain Lance Wolfsmith is the current Operations Flight Commander of AFROTC Detachment 075. In this episode, he talks about his experiences being an Air Force Academy athlete, his time in Space Operations and Acquisitions, and his current positions as the OFC and Instructor. He shares valuable lessons that he has learned throughout his career, giving leadership advice to cadets and soon-to-be officers.

    S3 Episode 7: Col John Grimm

    Colonel G. John Grimm is the current Commander of AFROTC Detachment 075. In this final episode to season 3 we talk about his leadership journey in the Air Force and what life is like behind the scenes serving as Det Commander and interacting with cadre. Finally Colonel Grimm shares his challenge and words of advice to cadets heading into the Spring 2022 semester.

    S3 Episode 6: Brig. General Daniel Woodward (Ret.)

    Brigadier General (Ret.) Daniel Woodward is a former general who served nearly 30 years in the United States Air Force. His time in service included accumulating over 3000 hours as a command pilot and working with our international partners as the Director of Regional Affairs, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs. He recently got appointed by President Biden himself to serve on the American Battle Monuments commission; which works to preserve the legacy of the United States military overseas. In this episode we talked about how leadership changes as you progress in rank, what it is like to go an entire career in a dual-military marriage, and ways in which ROTC cadets can prepare themselves for active duty.

    S3 Episode 5: Military & Veterans Program (Center) @ SDSU

    In this episode, we sat down with Elisa East, Military and Veterans Program Administrator, and Elise Gary from the Military and Veterans Program (MVP) at the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center. Elisa focuses on building community and fostering leadership by creating connections with our military-connected population and non-connected. One of the programs they invite our community to be a part of is the Women’s Coffee Call, every 2nd Monday from 10 - 11 AM at the turtle pond. Elise works as Elisa’s assistant but also the lead social media manager. These ladies have many resources, and feel free to reach out to them if you have questions. They are located in Student Services West 1661, the corner office South of the Student Union, next to the flag pole.

    S3 Episode 4: 2nd Lt Tallon Hannus

    2nd Lt Tallon Hannus is a Det 075 Alumni from 2020 who was part of the only class to commission over zoom, the "Covid Class" as he calls it. On this episode we talk about his journey through ROTC, his different leadership roles/lessons, and his path from Day 1 ROTC to becoming a student pilot based at Laughlin AFB, Texas.

    S3 Episode 3: C/1st Lt Kyle Macaraig

    Cadet Kyle Macaraig is an AS400 cadet who recently attended the highly competitive TACP Officer Phase two (TOPT) selection this fall. In this episode, we discuss his background, his time at TOPT, lessons learned, and the importance of finding your grind.     S3 Episode 2: 2nd Lt Jovanni Lombardo

    2nd Lt Lombardo is a newly commissioned officer in the United States Space Force and a Det 075 Alumni. His story and path to commissioning is unlike most. In this episode, Lt Lombardo shares his story and how the adversity he dealt with molded the leader and person he is today. We also talk about the importance of having humility in leadership and ways all cadets can better themselves as future military officers.

    S3 Episode 1: C/Col Garrett Thompson

    Cadet Garrett Thompson is the current Wing Commander of Detachment 075 for the Fall 2021 Semester. He comes in with the goal of bringing the detachment to again be the "Best in the West". In this inaugural episode to Season 3 we discuss what life is like running the Wing, what being Best in the West means, and ways all cadets, from 100s to 800s, can better themselves and the Detachment as we all transition back to ROTC post COVID-19.

    In this episode of Live with Det 075, we talk to HH-60G pilot, Capt. Bryan Tordoff. He talks about his first deployment overseas and what it was like to be on station when the Iranian TBM strike hit Al-Asad airbase, as well as some fun stories involving low-level flight.

    This week on Live with Det 075 we sit down with Capt. Hannah Tordoff to talk about Airfield Operations. Capt. Tordoff talks about her recent deployment to the Middle East, where she served as the Air Advisor to the Host Nation Military, teaching their personnel how to establish, maintain, and run airfields as Air Traffic Controllers.     This week on Live with Det 075, we talk to Intelligence Officer Capt Ruddek about his 22-year career in the Air Force. We talk about the United State's most dangerous threat in recent years and the challenges of Capt Ruddek's first deployment.     S2 Episode 6: Aircraft Maintenance/DET 075 Director of Operations, Major Madison Gilbert

    This week on Live with Det 075 we have our very own Detachment 075 Director of Operations, Major Madison Gilbert! Major Gilbert attended the Air Force Academy and commissioned as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer and went on to lead a very successful career in maintenance. We discussed deployments, fighter jets, and leadership from her time as a maintenance officer. Also, she participated in Project GO, the Project Global Officer program, three times while she attended USAFA and speaks Russian!

    S2 Episode 5: TACP Officer Capt. Chris

    In this week with Live with Det 075, we sit down with our first ever guest from the AFSPECWAR community. TACP Officers are Tactical Air Control Party specialists responsible for calling in precision airstrikes. We talk to Capt Chris about what it takes to get selected as a TACP Officer and the attributes the Air Force is looking for in potential TACPOs. We also get a glimpse of real combat and how stressful it can be when lives are on the line.

    S2 Episode 4: Det 075 POC/CSO select, Cadet Tyler Shiver

    This week on Live with Det 075, we talk to a current Det 075 cadet who has done a lot for our detachment. Starting off as an AS 100, she worked her way up to Cadet Wing Commander and was an instructor for both IMT and FTP along the way. We ask about Field Training and get the inside scoop from her time as a CTA at Field Training. We also talk about her initiative to implement Workplace as the detachment's main way of communication and learn about her experience as the first Cadet Wing Commander to tackle the online environment during the pandemic. She will soon commission and be sent off to Florida for CSO training.
