The Sligo Creek Golf Experience: Nerves, Gnats, and the Road to 92
What happens when a mid-handicapper with a herniated disk and limited flexibility takes on 18 holes? In this episode, I’m taking you on the bag with me at Sligo Creek Golf Course in Silver Spring, Maryland, for a double-loop 18-hole session. This wasn’t just a round of golf; it was a test of the Mid-Range Swing philosophy. I’m documenting my mission to move my scoring average from 98.4 down to 92 without changing my swing, and this round provided some major mental and physical hurdles. In this episode, I dive into:✅The Mental Game: Dealing with the "Golf Anxiety" of having a group play right on my heels and the importance of not rushing your routine.✅Environmental Distractions: Trying to stay focused while battling a relentless swarm of April gnats.✅The Scorecard Reveal: How the Mid-Range strategy led to a 46 and a 42 for a total of 88—a massive milestone for the project.I am not a pro, a coach, or an instructor. I’m an amateur student of the game sharing the real, unpolished journey of playing golf in my late 50s. If you’ve ever felt pressured on the course or wondered if you can actually lower your score while managing physical limitations, this episode is for you.Connect with the Journey:Watch the journey on YouTube: Mid-Range Swing - YouTubeRead the full breakdown: Sligo Creek Golf Course - Mid-Range Swing ReportJoin our community: Visit our Facebook Group to share your own scoring goals.(1) Mid-Range Swing | Facebook

E7: The Journey to 92 Begins: My First Round of the 2026 Season!
I’ve set a big goal for myself this year: I’m working to lower my scoring average from a 98 down to a 92 by November. In this video at Enterprise Golf Course, I’m taking you along for the very first purposeful round of the season to see where my game stands and what I need to work on. I’m currently playing as a 25.2 handicap, and if I’m going to keep up with my weekend buddies and hit my targets, every stroke counts. In this video:✅My first-round highlights (and some "learning moments").✅My funny moment on the first tee.✅A first look at how the Bridgestone e6 is performing on the course.✅Real-time course management for a mid-to-high handicapper. This is all part of the Mid-Range Swing project, where I’m documenting the ups, downs, and everything in between for the senior golfer looking to sharpen their game. What’s your scoring goal for this year? Ep6: The Great Golf Ball Challenge Part 4 Finale
The search is over. Today, I pick the one golf ball I’m sticking with for the entire season. After starting with four contenders—Titleist, Srixon, Callaway, and Bridgestone—I’ve officially narrowed it down to the final two. In this video, I’m taking the Bridgestone e6 and the Callaway Supersoft out for a head-to-head battle to see which one earns its spot in my bag.As a golfer pushing 60 with a herniated disk, I don't have the luxury of a 110mph swing. I need a ball that maximizes the speed I do have, stays straight, and feels good around the greens. My goal is to lower my average from 98.4 to 92—and consistency starts with playing the same ball every single round. In this final showdown:🚩Driving for Distance & Accuracy: Which ball keeps me in the fairway despite my limited flexibility?🚩The "Feel" Test: How do these two compare on approach shots and off the putter face?🚩The Decision: I break down the data and the "gut feeling" to crown the winner.🚩The Strategy: Why playing one ball consistently is a key part of my journey to sub-92 golf.I’m not a pro and I’m not here to teach you a new swing. I’m just documenting the reality of "mid-range" golf and showing how smart choices—like picking the right gear—can shave strokes off your game without changing your mechanics. What ball are you playing this year? Ep5: The Great Golf Ball Challenge Part 3
Can the right golf ball actually save your scorecard? In this episode of The Mid-Range Swing, I’m taking my quest to break 92 to the course with a specific focus: finding the perfect ball for my swing speed. As a golfer pushing 60 with a herniated disk and limited flexibility, I know I’m not hitting it like the pros—and that’s okay.I headed out for 9 holes to put four popular "slow swing speed" balls to the test:🚩Titleist * Srixon * Callaway * Bridgestone e6Watch (and listen) as I track how these balls perform under real-world conditions. It isn't just about distance; it's about feel, control, and staying in play. By the end of the round, it’s Cut Down Day. Two of these brands didn't make the grade and are officially out of the bag.In this episode:The reality of playing with a bad back and limited mobility.On-course testing and honest feedback on each ball. The "Cut Down" reveal: Why I eliminated two major brands.I’m not a pro, and I’m not a coach—I’m just a guy trying to play better golf without changing my swing. Ep4: The Great Golf Ball Challenge Part 2
In Part 2 of our Golf Ball Challenge, we’re taking the data to the grass. I’m testing the Callaway Supersoft, Bridgestone e6, Srixon Soft Feel, and Titleist Tour Soft to see which one actually helps a mid-to-high handicapper play more consistent golf.I’m breaking down the "sound and feel" of each ball so you can decide which one belongs in your bag this weekend. What’s inside this episode:✅Off the Tee & Accuracy: How do they react off the face when you aren't swinging like a pro?✅Short Game Control: Which ball gives the most confidence around the greens?✅Confidence: Which golf ball gave me the most confidence when standing over it?If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a 5-star rating—it helps other amateur golfers find the show!Resources & Community:Watch the Journey on YouTube:Mid-Range Swing - YouTubeListen to the Deep Dive on thePodcast: Mid-RangeSwing PodcastJoin My Golf Group: Get my Mid-RangeSwing Email Go Behind the Scenes in theClubhouse: Mid-Range Swing BlogJoin the Conversation: Cometell me which ball you think will win in our Mid-Range Swing FacebookGroup!

Ep 3: The Great Golf Ball Experiment for the Over-50 Golfer (The Kickoff)
Are you playing the right golf ball for your game, or just the one with the best commercials? In this episode, I’m launching The Great Golf Ball Experiment—a head-to-head battle to find the perfect golf ball for the over-50 golfer with a mid-range swing.I’m tired of seeing "Tour Level" ball tests for golfers who swing 120 mph. This experiment is for the rest of us. I’ve selected four specific golf balls to put through the ringer, and today, I’m breaking down the "Why" behind my choices and what I'm looking for in the data.In this introduction to the experiment, you’ll hear:✅The Starting Four: Which balls made the cut for the test and why they were chosen for the 50+ game.✅The Scoring Metric: How I’m measuring performance (it’s not just about distance—it's about the "Mid-Range" precision from 150 yards and in).✅The Handicap Factor: Why a 25.2 handicap perspective is exactly what most amateur golfers actually need to hear.✅The Call to Action: How you can follow along with the live testing and share your own "weekend buddy" ball stories. The testing starts now. Follow the show to make sure you don't miss the reveal where we look at the numbers and crown a winner.Let's change our scores, and not our Swing.Resources & Community:Watch the Journey on YouTube:Mid-Range Swing - YouTubeJoin My Golf Group: Get my Mid-RangeSwing Email Go Behind the Scenes in theClubhouse: Mid-Range Swing BlogJoin the Conversation: Mid-Range Swing Facebook Group!#Over50Golf #GolfBallTest #MidRangeSwing #AmateurGolf

Can a mid-to-high-handicapper with a bad back and limited flexibility actually shave 6 strokes off their game in one season? In this podcast, I’m laying out my roadmap for 2026 and exactly how I plan to transform my game. I’ve spent too long hovering around a 98 average, and it’s time to get serious about the Mid-Range Swing. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a fellow high-handicapper, I’m taking you along for every birdie, bogey, and bunker shot as I chase these three major milestones: My 2026 Goals: ✅The Big Number: Dropping my scoring average from 98 down to 92. ✅The Consistency Challenge: Committing to playing golf at least once every single week—no excuses!✅The Scoring Zone: Improving my Greens in Regulation (GIR) from 100 yards and in. This is where the magic (and the 92) happens.I’ll be documenting my rounds, my practice sessions, and the lessons I learn along the way.
