Mike's Sports Round Up

On this final edition of the Spring 2022 Semester live on WSJU Radio, Mike recaps the NFL Draft and his thoughts on the Giants and Jets and some interesting trends that we saw last week (3:40). Plus, he recaps the last week for the Yankees (28:33) and Mets (39:12) who continue their respective hot starts to the year ahead of big divisional series this week. Finally, Mike gives his thoughts on the big St. John's news of former DePaul forward David Jones coming over to Queens for the 2022-23 season and more scheduling updates surrounding St. John's (46:29).  

On this edition of the show, Mike recaps the last week for the Yankees who sit at 10-6 at tied for first in the AL East (2:15)as well as the Mets who still have not lost a series yet this season and have the best record in baseball at 12-5 (22:36). The NFL Draft is coming up this week, so Mike analyzes who the Jets and Giants could pick and how the 1st round could go on Thursday night (31:22). Plus, he talks St. John's Basketball news as point guard Andre Curbelo transfers in after two years at Illinois (45:10). 

In this episode, Mike discusses the horrible news surrounding the passing of Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins (1:57). Mike also discusses the Opening Weekend of the Major Baseball season starting off with the Yankees failing to come to an agreement on a long term contract with Aaron Judge (9:07), the Yankees taking 2 out of 3 games from the Boston Red Sox (22:45), and the Mets taking 3 of 4 from the Washington Nationals (36:33). In this edition, Mike recaps all the Final Four action in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament as well as preview tonight's National Championship match of Kansas vs North Carolina (2:15). Mike also breaks down some big moves made in the NFL in recent weeks (19:35), the US Men's National Soccer Team qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and their World Cup group draw (45:39), and the MLB season kicking off with Opening Day this week (53:33). 

In this edition of the show, Mike talks with new WSJU members Gianni and Jason about the first two rounds of March Madness (1:36). They also talk about Major League Baseball as the lockout is over and Spring Training is now underway starting with the Yankees' moves including their big trade with Minnesota that sees the departures of Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela (18:36). The guys also talk about the Mets' moves as they acquire Oakland A's pitcher Chris Bassitt in a trade as well as other moves around the market (43:48).   

After a two-week break, Mike is back as he talks about the MLB lockout as regular-season games will now be lost due to the labor dispute (2:18). Also, the Big East Tournament will take place this week at Madison Square Garden so Mike gives his thoughts on the last few games for St. John's and their season as the conference tournament approaches (20:01) as well as the rest of the field and he gives his Big East Tournament predictions (35:42).   

On this edition of the show, Mike welcomes fellow WSJU Sports Director Chris Bello in to break down the Los Angeles Rams taking down the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to win Super Bowl 56 (1:19). We also talk about another disappointing week for St. John's Men's Basketball as they drop games to Villanova and UConn at the Garden (25:50) and then round things out with the blockbuster trade in the NBA between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers to swap James Harden and Ben Simmons along with other pieces involved (38:09).

We're back for a new semester after a long winter break and Mike breaks down all the recent drama in the NFL Playoffs (1:52). He also gives his predictions for the AFC and NFC Championship games this upcoming weekend (42:43). Mike also reacts to the New York Giants hiring Bills Assistant GM Joe Schoen as their General Manager and what that means for the direction of the team after another terrible year (49:58). Finally, Mike reacts to the desperate situation for St. John's Basketball as a promising season is slipping away (56:29). 

In this edition of the show, Mike talks about the failure of the MLB CBA negotiations and the impending lockout along with the Mets' spending spree including signing star pitcher, Max Scherzer, to a massive deal (2:10). Also, Mike talks about the Yankees' inactivity so far this offseason despite a lot of the league getting deals done this past weekend (22:05).
