    Anger Management

Anger is a normal part of life. We all feel it at one time or another. But when we allow our anger to get out of control, it can quickly turn destructive, and create other problems for us as we drive our cars or deal with our personal relationships with others. In this episode of Mind, Body, Bowen, therapist Tonya Eider talks about taking control of your anger.

  2. 34

    Practicing gratitude

Every day, dozens of small things go right for you. After a rainy week, the sun finally pops out. Traffic is light on the way to work. A co-worker brings in cupcakes. Little things. Nice things. Add them all up and they make up a pretty good day. Moments like these are easy to overlook. That’s where an exercise known at gratitude practice helps, giving you the chance to look back and acknowledge all the good things that happened to you in the last 24 hours.  In this episode of the Mind Body Bowen podcast, Esther Wilcox, Bowen Health’s Director of Clinical Program Management, talks about the art of embracing gratitude.

  3. 33

Mindfulness, for a mind full of stuff

In a world where information is constantly being aimed at you, life can, at moments, feel a bit overwhelming.  In this week’s Mind Body Bowen podcast, Bowen Health Clinical Educator Holly Hirschy-Hurd talks about mindfulness, a practice that allows you to be present in the moment, and can help slow that onslaught of info for a few minutes while at the same time help to lower your stress, improve your focus and support your overall health.

  4. 32

    Women's health and preventive screening

Many serious health conditions develop silently. Timely health screenings give patients and medical professionals a chance to discover those problems early when they are often more treatable and stop them before they become life threatening. In this episode of Mind, Body, Bowen, Bowen Health Director of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Kim Richard,  sits down to talk about women’s health screening.

  5. 31

    Overcoming dental anxiety

Oral care is an important part of an overall healthcare plan, but for more than a quarter of all patients, a trip to the dentist causes real anxiety. In this episode, Bowen Health dentist Dr. Colin Spencer and Bowen Health therapist Holly Hirschy-Hurd talk about dental anxiety and ways to help alleviate fear of the dentist.

  6. 30

Why do I do that thing that I do?

Quirks. We all have them. There are things like chewing our fingernails, or loudly tapping our feet, even cracking our knuckles. They’re mostly small things, simple things, things we often do without even thinking, things others might consider annoying. And sometimes, we even annoy ourselves. The question is, why … why do we do the things that we do? Bowen health therapist Holly Hirschy Hurd explains that there’s more to a quirk than just habit.

  7. 29

    Healthy Smile/Healthier Body

You’ve heard it your entire life … “Brush your teeth twice a day …” but why? Well, it turns out it takes about 12 hours for plaque to start forming inside the mouth after eating. Left undisturbed, that plaque produces acids that can start to break down the otherwise healthy teeth and begin creating cavities. Brushing removes that plaque and those acids and keeps the mouth healthy. In this episode of Mind Body Bowen, Bowen Health dentist Dr. Colin Spencer discusses why good oral health practices should be a regular part of your overall health plan.

  8. 28

    Controlling asthma

Asthma affects an estimated 10-12 percent of children worldwide. Usually, asthma is no more than a minor inconvenience. It is a condition where the airways in the lungs narrow, temporarily making breathing difficult. But in rare cases, it can be deadly. Asthma can't be cured, but it can be controlled. In today’s episode of Mind Body Bowen, Dr. Alex Tanase, a Bowen Health pediatrician, talks with Dr. Siquilla Liebetrau, Bowen Health’s director of clinical services, about caring for patients with asthma.

  9. 27

    Co-parenting with a jerk

Parenting is hard enough, but when a relationship ends and parenting becomes shared responsibility with an angry ex, raising a happy, successful child can become even more complicated. In this episode of Mind Body Bowen, Bowen Health therapist Erin Hollowell talks about creative solutions to the difficulties faced when you must co-parent with a jerk.

  10. 26

Is there a right way to grieve?

Losing a loved one is difficult, and dealing with the grief caused by such a loss can be like riding an emotional roller coaster. For some, those emotional upheavals can be overwhelming. But is that the wrong way to grieve? Bowen Health therapist Holly Hirschy-Hurds sits down with Dr. Siquilla Liebetrau, Bowen Health’s Director of Clinical Services helps answer that question.

Checkups Ensure Kids Grow Up Healthy

To really ensure your child is healthy, its important for them to see their doctor for regularly scheduled wellness checks. Regular checkups enable a pediatrician to track a child’s growth and development while providing education and support to parents.

The Veterans Administration estimates that 41 percent of all veterans will require mental health services at some point in their lives. Bowen Health therapist Amber O’Daniels, a veteran herself, explores why veterans are sometimes misunderstood in the mental health care community and what providers need to know to serve military veterans better.

  15. 21

    Listening to your gut

Your gut and brain are always talking to each other. This two-way street, called the gut-brain connection, is why strong emotions can cause physical feelings in your stomach. When you're excited, you get "butterflies," and when you're stressed, you might feel sick. This link is so strong because of a network of nerves and signals, and billions of bacteria in your gut. It's a key system that helps control not only your digestion but also how you feel emotionally. In this episode of Mind Body Bowen Podcast, nurse practitioner Kim Richard shares how understanding the gut brain connection can help improve physical and mental health.

  16. 20

    How are you, really?

On its surface, it’s a simple question …  “How are you?” But in a clinic session, it can be a difficult question to answer if you have a hard time “hearing” what your body is saying. In this episode of Mind Body Bowen Podcast, Bowen Health Therapist Erin Hollowell talks about the simple steps needed to really get in touch with your inner self and understand what it’s really telling you about your overall health.

  17. 19

    Play-Based Therapy For Kids

Parents might find it confusing when they take their young child to a therapist only to see the therapist start to play with their child, rather than talk about the issue at hand. Play therapy can offer a unique peek into the mind of a small child that talk therapy can’t. Many small children simply lack the words needed to explain complex emotions, but they can act them out in play. Today, on Mind Body Bowen Podcast, Therapist Erin Hollowell talks about the therapeutic role of play when working with young children.

In this episode of Mind Body Bowen Podcast, Bowen Health therapist Erin Hollowell talks about apprehension and how to make friends with anxiety.

    Treating Opioid Dependency

Opioids are a highly effective drug when used to treat acute pain, but the downside is that many people who use them can quickly become addicted. The human body easily develops a tolerance for opioids, prompting many to start increasing the amount of the drug they take, often leading to drug dependency and possibly an overdose.
